FFXIV Crashing after login? -- FIX In OPFollow

Well I grabbed the latest patch, downloaded it and now right after I log in, FFXIv Immediately crashes. "FFXIV Has stopped working"

Is this due to the current updates being performed? Or, about to be performed?

Anyone else get this issue?

Known solution:

Go into your control panel - sounds - speaker properties (or whatever device you use), under the advanced tab.

Verify that your default format isn't above the 44100 hz level.

Servers aren't up yet. You'll get an error when you try to log in. They're due to be up in about 15 minutes.

This is what worries me. I don't get logged in, and then an error. My application crashes instantaneously.

I cannot get into the character lobby or anything.

Speficially, I get a "FFXIV Has stopped working" right after pwd entry.

It's working ok for me, it did hang when trying to exit back to my desktop from the main menu and servers are down so you can't connect to the lobby but I didn't crash trying to log into the client.

I've never seen that error message before either.

Then it almost sounds like you have a corrupted file. Try rebooting etc. You may be looking at a reinstall though. :(

yes its crashing for me also lets see what happens its only a lil while til servers are back up anyways. If its a major issue they will fix it likely quickly, or some here will have a fix for it etc.

Hmmmmm.........

error 1015 >>> ive had 1013 befor. if i dont select start it says server connection error.
i dont think corrupted file is the problem, unless Hydragyrum is currently playing.

No the Op is likely having the same issue that I am you go to login and you do. The minute you hit "PLAY" and the actual ffxiv application starts its crashes you see no error log and you don't make it to the lobby server at all.

It's crashing for me as well. Game worked fine for me pre-update and now I try playing and get the "Game has stopped working" message. I'm going to try and play in full screen and I'll post my results in a minute.

Here's my error. Note: This has only been happening since this patch.

It's slightly reassuring others are having this issue.

I'll post the log that I get.

Also, I did a system restore to yesterday, booted XIV up, and it had me re-download the pat ch, I did that, and im still in the same boat.

Anyone know what folders and files need to be kept for macros and stuff?

Or does a reinstall not affect them?

Same problem here. It seems as if a reinstall is not going to do anything for us if multiple people are having the same issue. I wouldn't recommend reinstalling right now. Send an email to square support I guess. That's all you can really do.

I just remembered Windows Update installed 10 things today. Went to check and there is an update for graphics card, gonna install that and see. Doubt that will fix it. PCs and Windows always **** me off, nothing every goes smooth for me.

Based on my error, it seems like they forgot to handle an exception, and in that case that's a coding problem on their part. I don't think reinstalling would change anything.

I had this problems 3 days ago (so its not cause of the update), where the game crashed or was even unable to start it and I had to fully uninstall and delete all folders, including user folders, and reinstall the game 3 times, on the 3rd time, I notice that only need to delete the user folders, don't need to delete the whole game, or well, that worked for me.

No good. I figured it wouldn't help. There were no major graphical updates in this patch. Square would have let us know if something like that was coming and required driver updates.

This fixed it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Go into your control panel - sounds - speaker properties (or whatever device you use), under the advanced tab.

Verify that your default format isn't above the 44100 hz level.

isn't working for me :\
Though my game crashed after I click on my character name, shows the "loading" screen, then what's seemingly the xmas music starts playing for a second, then crashes... perhaps this is a different problem?

Just curious, but can people post their sound card they are using and driver version. Wonder if perhaps everyone has the same sound card that's causing an issue or if it's something that broke with the update and everyone regardless of sound card is having that issue.

If you open DxDiag (Win key + R -> dxdiag) there's a section for sound. You can post the name for the Device, and the Name for the Driver and Version.

If you're able to get to character select then your issue is unrelated.

The soundcard trick has worked for me also. I had my Speaker Output set to 24 bit, 96000 HZ (Studio Quality). Also note that the Exclusive Mode settings below this makes no difference.

Settings that work:

16 bit, 44100 HZ (CD Quality)
16 bit, 48000 HZ (DVD Quality)
24 bit, 44100 HZ (Studio Quality)
24 bit, 48000 HZ (Studio Quality)

Settings that no longer work:

16 bit, 96000 HZ (Studio Quality)
16 bit, 192000 HZ (Studio Quality)
24 bit, 96000 HZ (Studio Quality)
24 bit, 192000 HZ (Studio Quality)

Why this is the case I have no idea. However there was a mention of the sound being looked into on the official site:

Comprehensive Version Update Details (12/15/2010)

Bug Fixes
- An issue wherein the background music for certain levequests would not play has been addressed.

Could be the reason... tabun.

I think you have a different issue, the people on this thread has their game crashing, instead of a graphics issue. Sounds like you need to lower your graphic settings in the final fantasy XIV config though.

For the graphic issue: If you have the beta client still installed you need to remove it. Someone in my LS had similar issues and found that beta client was the cause.

For those still having crash issues, make sure to check any on-board or secondary output devices for the same settings. If you haven't disabled them, there is a possibility they are causing the conflict also.
Also for my card information, since this did work for me:
Description: Speakers (2- Creative SB X-Fi)

Definitely good advice, if you have a USB headset that would also show up as a secondary device. So make sure you change the setting on that or unplug it entirely. Interesting that everyone has different devices, I personally have 2 of these devices and didn't run into the issue but my 3rd machine did... odd.
