This is what happens when new code is implemented in games... You change one thing, it has the potential to disrupt any and everything else. You should expect bugs like this to happen after every big update, but also expect emergency maintenance within a few days of it that will fix them.

Just so you know, it doesn't HAVE to be that way. There's a thing call Quality Assurance and if used properly it can mitigate many if not all game breaking issues. But as long as people keep 'expecting' bugs, companies are happy to keep QA to a minimum.

Show me an MMO that routinely does major updates without any hiccups or glitches and I'll show you a real video of Santa Claus banging the Tooth Ferry.

Unfortunately, even in a perfect world, where everyone is working to the best of their abilities all the time, you can only have it one way or the other. Either the content is good, well developed, well thought out, code that comes out after a few months of in depth QA, or it's sloppy code that comes out every two weeks. Currently, the general sentiment in the FFXIV community seems to be toward preferring the latter. Once things are a little more under control, it's likely we'll see it shift toward the former.

QA also takes time to be done right, which SE is severely lacking. Can you imagine the uproar if they had said "We're going to be testing the patch and it won't be out until the very end of december or early january?" The community is ****** and putting a LOT of pressure on SE to get things fixed sooner than instantly (and rightfully so).

IMHO it's pretty understandable that SE would opt to put out a good-enough set of changes with several minor bugs NOW, rather than wait another several weeks to put out a "perfect" patch.

I don't think this has anything to do with the patch yesterday, I had that happen to me once about a week ago. And another friend had that happen a few weeks ago.
