Cross classed skillsFollow

#1 Dec 20 2010 at 10:39 AM Rating: Excellent

Recently I've seen more and more people using random skills from other jobs while leveling, and I wanted to make sure I wasn't missing out on any amazing abilities that I could quickly pick up.

Right now on my rank 24 lancer I only constantly use 2 cross classed abilities. Second wind and cure.

Second wind has a long cooldown and high stamina cost, but is instant and heals me for roughly 20% of my HP.

Cure is very fast cast and hardly takes any stamina, and with my low int/mind heals me for just a little less than second wind.

Stoneskin and Shock Spikes are nice when soloing tougher mobs. They have long casting times but damage absorb and free stuns are always nice.

As a battle class I mostly play PUG. But I did level LNC to pick up ferocity and invigorate. Also MRD high enough to pick up bloodbath. I like to use ferocity + bloodbath + WS for a typical 200+ HP return depending on damage of course. And invigorate is just nice all around.

Sacrifice (Thaumaturge, Rank 6) is similar to Cure, in that although you lose a little bit of HP to grant a slightly lower Cure effect, you gain HP Regen instead, so that over time, you actually get more HP than a single Cure can do. Good for all situations.

1 Light Thrust
2 Speed Surge
3. Trammel
4. Skewer (or Skull Sunder for slashing weak enemies)
5. Shock Spikes
6. Sacrifice
7. Cure
8. Stygian Spikes
9. Protect
10. Unused

Works VERY well for fast kills. Sometimes I add more WSes in as needed.

I'd say level CON & THM to R20 both. It's not that hard to anymore with less SP needed (plus, guardian aspect). You'll get CON: Stoneskin (R6), Shock Spikes (R8), Protect/Shell (R18) and Cure II (R20) for quickly curing a nasty crit hit; and also THM: Sacrifice (regen) (R4), Punishing Barbs (R8), Siphon MP (R20), Sacrifice II (R20). Depends how high you're willing to go and how much time to spend on these, but I'd say these skills make a nice addition to mostly anyone's soloing. If for nothing else then for not having to depend on others to buff and heal you.
I don't know much about useful non-caster skills though ;[ perhaps someone else can shed a light there....

I almost always use shock spikes, its a huge reduction to damage taken. If I feel I'm trying to solo a level I probably shouldn't be able to, I use punishing barbs. Other than that, I'm the same as you, I use second wind and cure. Bloodbath never worked better than the others for me, so I don't bother wasting the spot.

Can replace Seismic Shock with Red Lotus, as the former is unique to PUG and the later isn't. They both have 100% accuracy, being magical WS. (Red Lotus on Archer = awesome just for looks. Tactical nuke, released!)

I find bloodbath to be terrible, personally.

I use siphon MP on every job. It means as a melee I can pretty much use whatever spells I want. So my gladiator unleashes some thunderbolts when I don't feel like chasing down a mob.

I've also been using absorb defense on a lot of jobs - extra def. for me - less for the mob. Nice.

I solo a lot on my Gladiator so I have both Cure2 and Sacrifice2. To restore mp, I have both Stygian Spikes and Siphon MP. Whenever I see my hp dip to 1/2, I chain cash both Cure2 and Sacrifice2 (Also have Fast Cast). When I'm done with the mob, I just cure myself up, put up the Spike and use Siphon MP to pull the next mob (I NEVER run out of mp). Of cause, I also have my regular gladiator stuff like Phalanx and Spin Stroke, plus Feint for the misses and Skull Sunder for Cheap WS.

I actually don't even have second wind at all, and just use Aegis Boom for my oooh sh*t button. When my hp does go to red, I just pop Aegis Boom and spam cure myself :P

I would definetly recommend leveling Con and Thm at the same time if you want to be a mage, it takes longer but makes leveling much easier imo. I agree Siphon MP is a great spell, I can chain nuke and still keep my mp up which means faster kills and faster leveling. Other spells I find really useful which may help other classes are protect/shell, shock/stygian spikes, cure II/sacrifice II, slow and absorb def.

For your Lancer just grinding mobs i personally would use.

1. Light Thrust
2. Trammel
3. Skewer
4. Feint
5. Ferocity
6. Hawks Eye
7. Bloodbath
8. Second Wind
9. Invigorate
10. Speed Surge

Your heals are going to come from melee hits (Speed surge), Second wind and a Ferocity/Hawks eye/Bloodbath combo.
