I'm not complaining, they'll either get taken care of or they won't. The three things I found entertaining though...

1. Using a class with a consumable weapon on a bot
2. The one bot being named Afk Afk
3. Using a non-DoM class with limited MP and having cures written into the script (Sadly this vid doesn't show it but Afk cured me two times)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jwPMNrbdeME

I'd upload my others where it was a bit more obvious, but I uploaded this one for SE to show they're in a party. It took me 24 hours to upload this one :( In the future I'll use lower quality captures ^.^

*EDIT*

Is 720 or sound working for anyone? I'll be really po'd if I spent a day uploading and it didn't even fully upload. Then again I could just suck at youtube Smiley: glare

Yeah its pretty obvious they are run by a script of some sort. It is odd to use consumables, but archer is ranged.

At the time of recording they were both R14, I guess I just don't understand it. I mean the other vids have mostly been THM or CON bots, with a "refresh" ability it makes that much more sense... not that botting in a game that there's not (ok shouldn't be) a market for RMT makes sense either.

Those bots make sense if you think on the macro scale.

One archer bot with:

no armor
bow
20 stacks of 999 arrows. each arrow costs 3 gil (warped). 3X999X20 rounded up is 60 thousand gil.

placed on an area with lots of very low level critters that have a high respawn rate.

Run script as shown on video. Leave it running until it runs out of arrows (script detects no ammo and logs off).

It takes about 4 arrows to kill one mob in that video (to use it as an example). thats 12 gil per kill.

Critter has a high chance of dropping all or more than 1 of:

skin
shard
bone/sinew
meat

Prices of those :

skin: 10 gil at npc
shard: up to 200 gil per unless it wind (500+ if wind).
bone/sinew: up to 100gil per to crafters, 30 gil to npc
meat: 10gil to npc per.

all these items can stack up to high numbers plus the script can easily 'drop' any unwanted items in favor of the more expensive ones.

Potentially, the bot can kill 1665 critters. The real money comes from crystals and shards so assuming a 50% drop rate (and we all know its a LOT higher than that!) then he would be getting 832 shards.

At 200 gil per shard minimum the net profit is 166,500 gil. This is before the profit the other items make.

Not a bad profit margin for what essentially is one bot standing in a spot for about 4 or 5 hours (runs out of arrows by then for sure). Now imagine one guy running 10 bot accounts like these.. replenishing their arrow supply with one 'supplier' account... and in a 24 hour period you're looking at 1 million gil per 24 hour period per account.. 10 million gil per day for 10 accounts.

sell 1 million gil at 30 dollars a pop on RMT website... 300 dollars a day.
Monthly profit: 9000 dollars.
Cost of 10 accounts per month: 120 dollars.

So.. not such a bad idea. They can easily absorb the loss of accounts if they making this much cash.

Sky, while I definately appreciate the math... who the heck is buying gil for this game? Surely the RMT are running at a loss currently. Who in their right mind would buy stuff with IRL money for a game who's future is potentially questionable... I'd like to think no one would. Then again...

That's the real question here.

The same people who buy gold in WoW, even though gold is nearing uselessness as a currency due to over saturation.
In short, dumb people.

Yesterday I was leveling in a cave in LL and this PUG kept running up to my mob and staring at it as I was fighting it, 'til I finally caught on that it was a bot - I'd beat it to every spawn and it would just stand there staring at my mob, it was obvious it was a bot so i reported it and was refered to a website - If they actually want people to report RMT or botting or "illegal activities" they need to make it more convenient. Anything more than a GM call and people wont even bother with it.

I remember in FFXI I reported underground mining/logging hackers. They were banned within minutes of being found by a GM. I knew the ban was instant for them because one time the GM accidentally whispered the whisper meant for the hacker to me =p

"Who is buying gil?" The same confused players who are wearing level 48 gear at level 5.

It actually works to report them though.

I've reported about 5 or 6 bots and they have all been gone in a few hours or the next day, of course new bots appear sooner or later but anything that puts a dent into the RMTs economy is a step in the right direction.

Interesting.

I'd say the main reason they're doing this is simply betting in favor of SE improving the game enough that they WILL make a profit soon. So it's less a matter of who is currently buying gil, but more of who will eventually.

In the meantime, they're storing up gil reserves. Pretty smart.

I was killing their spawns for about a half hour, but I eventually grew bored. As to the reporting procedure, it is what it is and I can live with that for now. Honestly the bots and RMT don't bother me too bad right now, it's when they compete with players for NMs and content that ****** me off (and yes I admit that they are competing with players on the economy, but right now it isn't as painful as they seem to be forcing prices down not up).
