...it would be best to have SE shut down the servers until
the game is finished the way they want it be?

None of the complaining is getting anyone anywhere any more;
all the problems have been beaten to death. Nothing new is
brought to light other than in response to patches. SE knows
all the complaints; they either take them to heart or they don't.

I say that SE should shut down the servers and make all the changes
that they want in order to complete the game as they envision it.
Once they do this they can open things up as open beta again.

What? You think this is harsh? Maybe. But the people who are
angry probably won't stick around anyway, and those who like the
game will return. It seems to me that the way things stand it's
become a death by a thousand cuts. The rewrite will take some
time, and it makes no sense to do that in public.

Nah, I don't think they should. They really need the player feed back since it's back in beta. It helps them see what players want, don't want and will tolerate. Not to mention they had a lot of people purchase their software...and many who love the game despite it's flaws...I think they would have quite a bit of PO'd fans if they did that.

i concur. they aren't going to move any faster with servers shut down. i want to rank up regardless of problems just for the sake of it. ppl that don't want to play, don't have to.

This makes no sense to me...

Are you even playing currently? The reason I ask is because a lot of this critiscm comes from people who are waiting for the PS3 release, or who don't currently have a computer that can handle the game...

So far there has been massive strides towards making the game more playable...Why stop that momentum now?

There is no reason to shut down the servers at this point... We all (playing people) have paid $60+ to PLAY the game.. if they remove the servers.. I know I would feel that they pretty much stole that money from me...

I would be furious and would never come back

This is not the first time this has been suggested, and it still doesn't make much sense in my opinion. Nothing can be gained from shutting down the servers other than angering thousands of people who purchased their game. Everything that needs to be done can be done in patches and maintenance (which is what is happening) and in the meantime people can fiddle around with their characters, chat with friends and build relationships while the game gets up to speed. If we were /paying/ for this service right now I might have an easier time seeing where you were coming from. . . However, the service is free, so what's the big deal? Yeah, people complain. Yes, there has been a rash of dead-horse beatings across all forms of media, my advice is to ignore it and move on.

Boy, I find this funny. Here I sit with a game that I cannot
play until I upgrade my computer, and I am not complaining; I
have received nothing for my $70. Yet I hear people complain
that they've been playing for months and that it sucks. Why
keep the servers open until the game is in a release state?
By taking away the game until its ready, Se takes away all your
complaints that the game isn't ready for release. SE can open
things up after they're actually ready to release it.

The vocal minority is just that, the minority. This game isn't nearly as bad as some ZAM posters here would want you to believe. There certainly are problems, but there are also many fun aspects. I would hope anyone who's stuck around this long has found enough enjoyment to continue playing, that alone should speak for itself. But to make thing better, SE has publicly announced that they're aware of the game's shortcomings and is dedicated to making it better. Only time will tell if the new team can live up to their promises.

Removing a game from service would cause so much bad media that SE could turn it into an absolute perfect MMO and it would still be worse off than if they just fix it while in service. You can only change the release date before the release. Once it's out, it's out for the world to see. Only time travel could change the release date now.

Is it beyond your comprehension that some of us are actually enjoying the game as it currently is? I've made some new friends, we do SP parties, leves, help each other make new items for our Linkshell to use and go exploring for little hidden areas in the game. You want to take that away from us? Also since you proposed releasing it back into a Beta, does that mean taking away our hard earned ranks? Who the **** in their right mind would come back after that? I don't think you really thought this through very well champ. What you are suggesting is about as good an idea as SE going to the bank, getting out every dollar they have and setting it on fire.

Some of us are having some fun, yes it could and should be better, but I'm enjoying what I have so far. I'm sorry that many of you are not, but hopefully they will get the patches out in a timely manner so you will be able to find the game to be enjoyable.

Agreed, more than anything else, shutting down the servers at this point would kill the game.

...and yes, I rated you down for even suggesting it.

Would you be willing to pay for all of your play up to this
point? If not, then you really aren't enjoying the game.
As the game is free, there isn't no way to know what the
player base really is.

How is all the negativity any less of a problem than waiting
until the game is good enough to pay for?

Yes, I would have gladly paid. $12/mo is by far the cheapest form of entertainment available. Even if I only play for 5 hours a week, that's 20 hours per month (and I play a lot more than 20 hours per month). Compare that to movies ($10 for 3 hours), bars ($20 for 4 drinks, plus tip), single player games ($50 for a month of play, if I'm lucky). Comparing to other MMOs sure, FFXIV is behind. But comparing to what I'd spend money on if I didn't have FFXIV, it is by far the best value.

I'm enjoying myself when I play. If I have to wait I'm not enjoying playing it. It's that simple. I don't care that other people don't like it, their opinions don't ruin my fun of the game.

The only real plus I could see for switching the game back into beta mode would that, in principle, they could make adjustments to the game faster. Perhaps a live beta where current players still stay on and keep leveling up as normal and would get to keep their levels and everything when it went live again but there would be an understanding that the servers could go down as changes were made and that game play could and would change.

Personally. I doubt it's necessary because I believe the "changing of the guard" that they just had was more PR than anything else. I really don't see this game making any huge changes in direction. I mean, I hope they can make it more enjoyable but I doubt they are suddenly going to do a 360 on the design of the game so it's not necessary to switch to beta mode.

My opinion may change later but that's what it is for now.

They already do that. It's called maintenance.
