We have confirmed an issue wherein users using a certain version of graphics card drivers will experience a white screen when starting up FINAL FANTASY XIV.

If you have experienced such an issue, we ask that you please review your video settings through the FINAL FANTASY XIV Config application, and also update your graphics card drivers.

As of Dec. 20, 2010, we have confirmed the issue with the following graphics card drivers.

- NVIDIA® GeForce® 8, 9, 200, 400 series Driver Version=260.99
- NVIDIA® GeForce® 500 series
Driver Version=263.09

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause

I don't have this issue, I'm wondering if the wording is a bit off? Pretty sure 260.99 is the most current as of late October?

And there's no newer version even of a beta driver.

Anyway I didn't see it on the forums so I thought I'd post it up just in case... not sure what to do if this IS correct. I would assume you'd have to rollback drivers and thus you'd be defying their suggested fix of autoupdating the drivers.

*EDIT* Cleared up my title a bit as it kinda read that I was having a problem with Lodestone instead of stating that Lodestone posted up a potential problem with XIV

I noticed that too. I was thinking that maybe they know something we don't and a driver update from nvidia is imminent.

I was thinking that we're overdue for one with a few high profile releases recently, but typically there's a beta driver first and unless I missed a page on the SLI forums I don't think ones been hashed out yet.

Unfortunately I have this problem.

It happens when you login and press PLAY. The screen turns white and just after that you get a report saying your FFXIV crashed. I have the latest drivers, I never had this problem before, so no clue what to do.

"What does review your settings mean" ..... I mean what the **** should/can I change to make it work.

Check the resolution, multisampling settings, and ambient occlusion. Shadow and texture detail are less important.

AO is off, field of depth is off. I tried with NO AA, resolution is set to my normal screen resolution (never had trouble with it). I played it all fine with these settings until today .... didn't change a thing. No idea what SE did to cause this problem all of a sudden.

In that case the next thing I would try is to uninstall your video driver and re-install it. Maybe even try upgrading direct x.

Have you tried playing in windowed mode? Also set your GPU settings to default and only mess with the settings in game after that? Alot of games get fussy when you try to force additional eye candy via nvidia control panel (accessed via right click on your desktop).

It could be any number of things sadly, SE wouldn't be the first to break something by fixing something.

Tried the following:

1) Un-install and re-install the latest drivers
2) Play at lowest settings possible
3) Play in windowed/full screen

I have no extra eye candy stuff on by using the nvidia control panel, everything is default.

Yes, tried 3 different drivers, I don't know what else I can do. SE is really the king of ******* things that were working up for no obvious reason .... sigh.

Try giving that tutorial a try. It will completely remove all traces of NVidia drivers from your computer, so you can freshly install them.

cross your fingers and hope the patch resolves your issues... ultimately I wouldn't point the finger just at SE. This happens alot with alot of devs. Things like this are usually fixed within a few days especially when it's affecting only a certain brand of a major hardware company.

On a side note, it could be due to the other recent issue of sound hz settings. Make sure windows is set to not use anything above 48kHz sound or the game won't load as of the last major update prior to today's. Another SE thing...

Haydyn, you are my hero man ....

I never expected it to be that. I reinstalled my sound drivers yesterday and had set my quality pretty high. I can log in now ... it was driving me nuts man. Thanks so much.
