Note for anyone requesting repair:

(If Possible) Have the materials for sale in your bazaar.

Not I, I have a three zero minimum on my repairing stuff for random people, LS mates and friends on the other hand get 1 gil repairs, or people in my parties, or really any existing relationship at all. Certain mats I expect more for than others though, Oak Canes for instance I won't touch for less than 7, cus Horn Glue is pretty **** expensive.

I regards those 1 gil repair as a huge insult to any crafters, for we are no beggar.

1 gil repair I just ignore and luagh, but when people put in the repair mat as a reward that annoys me, there is no insentive to do this especially since you might fail and lose out.

Would be nice if you could simply supply the mats, with a gil reward.

THIS

As a workaround I currently sell the repair mats in my bazaar at a high enough price no one should purchase them, then add that sale price on top of whatever reward I was planning to offer for the repair.

Absolutely a bajillion percent this. If for no other reason than to make the person requesting the repair realize just how much the repair will cost. I'm the first person in line to help people out in the game, but I'll be damned if I'm going to repair a total stranger's item that requires Horn Glue for 1K. For the most part, people are being stingy at best when choosing a reward for completing repairs. It would cost you 20k for a partial repair at the NPC, yet you expect me to give you a full repair (including providing the mat) for 2 or 3K. This is only my opinion, but I think a fair rule of thumb for repair pricing is 50 percent of what the NPC requires. You get 25 percent more repair for half the cost, and the crafter still gets to make a nice profit for the time and effort he invested in ranking up his craft. Everyone wins. Stop being so daggone greedy, people...

(As you can see, this has become a pet peeve of mine. lol)

SE need to add a cross wards search for repair request retainers for crafters, sorted by jobs required to repair such items. I understand why SE wouldn't want to give buy/sell a cross ward search option, but for repairing request!? come on~ Coz i personally wouldn't want to place my retainer in this ward unless i have a lot of items need to be repair. I would rather stand in wards where I can sell my items instead.

This is a fantastic idea, now that I think about it. You could enter your crafts and levels (or better yet, the game could detect them for you), and the search would return those retainers with items for repair for which you meet the bare minimum level to attempt. Then you could check them out to determine whether or not the reward is worth your while to actually undertake the repair. I've personally been making a small fortune lurking the repair ward since the update. :)

Didn't the NPC at the beginning of the game say something along the lines of "The only offers that don't get answered are those who offer too little coins?"

People will likely increase their rewards for repairs if they notice their gear remaining unimpaired for days.

Also,

Since the mender's wards CAN be a gold mine for crafters, don't be surprised if all the appropriately priced repairs are already taken care of ;P

oh i figure that the good prices are all gone

i was just amazed at how many people are in there with tons of items up for 1 gil and 1k gil, items with mats that cost way over 1k

My general rule of thumb for when I seek repairs is 5k, or 2X the material cost which ever is more. I think that gauging by the repair NPC gets a little silly at higher levels.

Gotta be careful with the repairs that "offer" things. I did one just on a whim and got 8 marmot meat. Cheapskate.

5k is what i offer unless it requires a harder material
but when i do them, i usualy want at least 3k, but 5k is what it should be

whats 5k compared to 30-40k the npc charges after all, people are just cheap

For me it depends...

I do a lot of crafting on my own and I'm a miner...so a lot of the time I have the raw goods on me. If I get the raw goods for free, and have them on me, I don't mind doing a free repair here or there. Doesn't bother me.

However, anyone on Trabia better not look me up for free crafting >.>; I have a life, and I do not intend on being anyone's slave >.>;...that is what your retainer is for XD

That's actually pretty funny since it didn't happen to me. I don't really care about the reward as long as it's not insulting and show's some sense...like if the buff leather spetch needed to fix your pretty belt costs 1.6k at the NPC offering 1k to fix it is pretty silly eh?

I always offer no less than 1k for repairs. You've to at least reimburse the crafter for their mats. Basically, less than it costs at the NPC, but more than or equal to the cost of the mats.

Speaking of fixing stuff, I was surprised yesterday to notice that my tanner30 can fix my rank 43 Wind Brand. Did they change the rank range to fix stuff? it used to be 10 ranks below Optimal Rank, didn't it?

I have found my BSM22 can easily repair my own Ironclad Calvrly Bow+1 as well, which Optimal Rank is 35... In the past +1 need rank-5...

ftfy
If you're just reimbursing me for the materials I won't touch your repairs, I need some incentive to go out of my way to fix your stuff. I know lots of people go off on the whole, "But you get SP" thing, and quite frankly the time I take to stand up, repair your wand, ash mac, Jerkin, Harness, etc. I could have got 5x they SP by not bothering. You are buying a material AND a service expect to pay for both.

Nope, it was 10 levels below the optimal rank to craft, a lot of people seemed to be confused about that. That being said they did lower the difficulty of several items during the update so people were spontaneously able to repair them, so it is understandable why this would be misunderstood. As a kind of proof I have been repairing my Bronze Solerrets since ARM R5 when they are optimal rank 27 to wear.

See, when I made my own Bronze Sollerets way before the patches and changes, back near launch, I was unable to fix them even at armorer15. It wasn't until armorer17 (27-10) that I could fix them.

If repairs are now based on rank needed to craft, then I can clearly understand why I can fix my brand-- it takes tanner25 or so to make 'em.

I'll try to mess around with more items then and see what I can figure out. My armorer19 shouldn't be able to fix my lantern shield (Optimal rank 34, rank to synth 40) nor would my alchemist 23 fix my bee spatha (Optimal rank 36, rank to synth 36).

I believe they did change it back in November iirc.

I always thought it was within 10 ranks of optimal, thanks for clearing that up.
