The experience was pretty great considering the pain we've had to endure so far.

The only complaint at this point is that I still have to check the retainers to find the cheapest item. (999.999.999gil for a dream hat? Are you drunk!?)

If this ONE step is eliminated and I don't have to warp into a different area to complete the purchase...guess what.

This is an auction house!

There's a pool of items that are can be searched now. The retainer 3d models serve absolutely no purpose whatsoever anymore and that's a great thing.

If anyone thinks seeing the market ward room and the 3d models of the retainers is worth the loading screen then the wards should be shrinked to only one room where you walk into like any other room or guild in Limsa without the loading screen and there you can access the item search menu.

From the same menu the item is searched there is no reason why you can't buy the item from the same screen.

Pretty sure that's what they don't want. Plus the loading is very little and a lot of categories are clumped into single wards so its not like you're gonna be jumping around that much. I mean if you wanna buy armor you can buy every piece of armor from the armorfitters. The point of them making you have to look through the retainers is because people will have other stuff up for sale/seek/repair etc. and so prices aren't dictated easily. I dunno, I think its pretty good the way it is now, its quick and straight to the point AND you get the benefits the retainers give you. Trust me I was an advocate of the AH, I absolutely hated the retainer system but this is actually better than I could've expected.

I think the Dev want to make retainer like a shopping mall.

You got shops, and a map with mark where items sell.

You have to RUN or else some dude run faster then you, he will get it! lol

And yes some display item will not be on sale. :)

AH = Ebay you buy it and they sent to you by mail.

I think I enjoy Retainer actually :)

Eh.. AH was faster indeed and it was easier to find an item but.. it's just too easy for the RMTs to use it to take over the economy..

its called annoying for everyone else... especially so for bazaars. seems like 80% of the crap i see in bazaars are someones crafting mats theyr saving in there for 83,333,333gil. we have plenty of storage options now, no need for this anymore. and doubly so for retainers, with search functions the way your retainer looks matters little to nothing anymore. ur not getting any more attention that way, its just obnoxious for anyone who actually wants to buy that item.

Actually its called dressing up the retainer in that you put your dream attire in there and get the retainer to wear it for decoration...its not a big deal, especially less of a big deal with items being search-able now. Sometimes I think people want to complain just to complain. If anyone's seen the Gamespot forums for this game you would want to shoot your brains out - half the people on there are familiar names who don't play the game any more and now with the release of the retainer system they're bashing it saying its bad based on what they've read for its description on Lodestone...it surprises how those people even still go to the forums 3 months after the game has been released.

They already do, always will sadly.

we need an ah, period.

se is trying to ensure more money one day from need of us to buy many retainers to make selling realistic.
trust me se, with inventory so poor and item variety so immensely high, we will always need many retainers.

stop punishing us by covering the need by a bad design for purchasing. :(

their paranoia over rmt (which sadly every game has in abundance,) is punishing legit players.

the ah building is there, please use it se.

maybe i should sell my cotton bolls one day.....a few logs in 2 more after that...ummmm then perhaps some skins i have in a weeks time and finally the weapon i made ...errrr..... thats how bad ward system is.

and yes thankfully i still found the items i needed last eve in wrong wards doing same old 50 min retainer by retainer search. total sillyness. i dont blame players they have 7 diff things to sell many require different wards

bad idea still se, very bad.
time for mail as well or allow us to mail at least to our own account damaged gear or not.....the limitations in this game are stiffling and a tad embarassing Oo

they have improved many things yes, and for that i say yayy!! but again, the core is lacking badly.
time IS an issue if they do want a successful game, every update they avoid the basic needs like ah, mail, ui, sp they simply lose more and more of the "faith" they are trying to gain back.

i will give them more time i know potentially if they open their eyes to the real needs the game has huge potential.^^

At this point I don't see an auction house needed anymore. I like this new feature really, it's a little bit of a pain since people don't use the right wards still, but it's getting there. Tonight I finally set up my retainers correctly and dropped them in the proper wards. One is off seeking repairs and the other is selling armor and whatnot in the lower tailor's ward. And for once I was able to find what I needed without bothering to wander around from retainer to retainer trying to find it. Use the search function to find it, and YG to find the correct price to list it at when selling. Once they've finished adding in the little features we'll have a very functional and unique system as it should have been.

EDIT: Despite the rate down, I stand by what I said. In fact I hope we don't get an AH. For awhile I thought we might need one, but after seeing how easy it is to use the current search function for the wards, I say we don't need it anymore. As long as SE continues making the improvements I think we're fine as it is. My only gripe however is it'd be nice to have an NPC to talk to (The search option feels out of place there to be perfectly honest.) instead of having it pop up when approaching the entrance like that. In fact here's the features on top of what they've done or are doing I'd like to see:

* Make it an NPC, stick them off to the side.
* Upon confirming what you're looking for, teleport you straight into that ward instead of making you have to manually choose it.
* Allow the search function to be pulled up anytime in the current ward, so you can search on the fly instead of having to run off to exit, change what you're seeking, and then find them.

This lodestone post might be useful:

http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/pl/topics/detail?id=cb4dc09784bc24b4fde2e45de9f018ec5fb504d2

An important extract is copied below as I think this answers your question.

Further adjustments to retainers
An increase in retainer inventory capacity
An increase in the number of items that can be placed in a retainer's bazaar
A fix assuring that retainers do not leave their bazaar locations after server maintenance
The addition of a sale/purchase history
Functionality changes to the "buying" feature
The addition of a delivery service

I guess the buy/sell history will be a great help

Just filling you in on why people do this. It's not so that people buy the item for that price, but to either show off the item, or to use bazaar space as inventory space. Nobody really believes that any item in game is worth 1 billion gil.

Woah slow down there...people still believe bronze mittens are worth 220k and accessories are 120k-720k depending on how pretty they look. Though this one is obvious for retainer modeling.

Perhaps the retainer should have an option for wearing clothes that you do not intend to sell.

That would help with the confusion AND allow you to still have 8 retainer spots on your stylish retainer.

Would also increase the demand for stylish gear.

Nobody has 1 billion anyway, pretty sure cap is 999,999,999 gil. Well add two retainers than maybe 2,999,999,997.

So why not let us open the seller's full bazaar by clicking on the item in the search results? ****, even pop up a little icon of the retainer's face if they want to keep it "personal" for whatever reason.

I was shocked to hear this isn't how it works already. This is a really obvious thing they need to change.

I put my retainers in proper wards and i'm selling things so fast now. I'm pretty sure SE have bigger plans for retainers, that is why they held onto them so dearly. Obviously the easy way out is giving us an AH but I'm guessing (complete speculation on my part) that retainers will play a role in companies, maybe in housing, maybe in something else, who knows...if they get rid of market wards now then there is no need to keep retainers around.
