Good luck! It's definitely a lot better than it was in Beta. If you roll on Besaid maybe I could recommend an LS or two.

Okay, I've made my new character and completed the tutorial guildleve for Momodi. I'm still not wild about the UI, but it's better. The response times are better too (but I picked a one chocobo server?) -- I'm about to do some crafting, which made me want to spit nails before. Let's see how that goes.

Oh, and I have a banner now.

I havn't joined an LS since open beta, as as of now no intentions of joining one. I am still enjoying this game. :) Thanks for the advice though. We'll see once I hit higher ranks.

Okay, so I finished all possible leves. Did carpentry and botany for my crafty crafts. I also made an ***-load of gil teleporting people. I saw four lines of conversation in Ul'dah. I spoke three times in four hours.

I will say that, while the game is about as mindless as it gets, it's much, much less irritating while being mindless than it was in August. Does that mean I want to continue playing???

I don't know. Good question.

Interaction is key, but most will be between friends as you make them. Since a lot of people are shy about /say and /shout. Though this is a lot like FFXI and WoW because the veteran players.

This is true. Say and shout are frowned upon in both games (unless you have a reason for it). Chat spam is just irritating.

I haven't run into anyone who isn't willing to chat... I don't know many people yet but everyone I have met has been friendly enough.

Remember that everyone else is also learning... unless they're a hardcore player, then they probably think they know it all and do not have time for us lowly newbies anymore ;-)

This is NOT true, in FFXI (and FFXIV) no one ever told someone else to shutup because they were talking in /shout or /say unless they were being irritating on purpose or spamming.

Exactly how I felt, and for me its worth playing. I've been able to make enough personal goals within to game to keep me going forward for the meantime. The game itself is no longer the roadblock it used to be.

Normally I wouldn't say anything, but seriously does it matter what your *** or sexuality is when it comes to a multiplayer game? Sure once you get into in depth conversations with friends or LS mates it can come up, but is it a requirement to be of a certain orientation before chosing a server? This is the 3rd time I've seen this come up... the OP is the first one to bring it up in a way that ****** me off.

I just don't see how the bit about being ****** or hot or 30+ or *** has anything to do with a game? Aren't you just another person looking for an entertaining experience? I'm sarcastic and off the wall some times, but I didn't find my LS by saying "I'm a sarcastic borderline overwieght yet still hot to blind chicks (and my wife who doesn't know that better men exist) 32 year old heterosexual"... I don't bring up sexuality in LS chat (other than a bad habit I have of calling things *** or retarded which I guess these days is easily seen as offensive, but I don't mean either of those words in the offensive sense of them)...

I seriously don't get this.

If you are starting from scratch and you wanted a *** specific LS, surely there is a site out there where you could find people playing this game who've (as one person already posted) created a specific LS for the GLBT community. If you don't want a *** specific LS then you just want any LS on any server, and if at some point your sexuality came up and they couldn't cope, F em and find a new one.

I guess my question would be, what's the point of the thread...

To the OP I hope you're enjoying the game, I can see why people rated down a few of your posts... this isn't a blog. We have a weekly thread for that, it should be popping up in a few hours...

PS: Botany isn't a craft, it's one of the 3 Diciples of the Land and sadly the Fieldcraft Leves count against your Battlecraft leve count. IMO If you want to continue with Archer (and the game) and you have limited time I'd focus on Battlecraft leves and your crafting and do your Botany in the periods inbetween leve resets until you have a good grasp on what it is you want to do in this game... I'm just saying

Thank you for your very well-considered response. Let me see if I can explain myself here, because I can understand your confusion. I've been definitely one of the people harder on the game from my experience with OB, and I tend to post with an excess of flair generally speaking. So, basically, I was throwing that out there for pure shock value/humor.

Do I need to? Absolutely not, and normally I wouldn't, because you're absolutely right. It has no relevance to the game discussion. Again, I just like to provoke responses. ;)

As for the game, I can definitely see technical improvement, though, I've stayed light years away from the Market Wards. There just needs to be a game injected into this now more technically-capable engine.

My LS is also really great and I've enjoyed chatting with them already. They're super nice and friendly.

All in all, my criticisms of the game as is stand, but I freely admit a much better experience this time around. And I hope my "I WANT A REACTION DAMNIT" tendencies didn't put you off too much. If so, please accept my apology.

It is up to anyone whether they want to express any aspect of their personal life to people in the game, however if they want to be with people who are like-minded and won't flame or act immature about it, that is also their choice. I don't think anyone needs the forum police questioning the relevance of every thread posted. This one was far more entertaining than another whining thread about SP.

My two cents, is it allowed?

I didn't know I was the forum police. My argument is that this thread should have been "Are there any *** only LSs" or "Any LSs verbally active and recruiting"... I agree there's some entertainment on this thread

I dunno, as a ***** myself I totally understand why someone would seek out a *** friendly LS directly. I don't think that you can really understand unless you are part of a marginalized group (hetero white man doesn't count, sorry).

I mean if you spend your time with people and make friends and then they find out you are *** and harass you etc... you can say "oh well just dump the LS and find another" but I don't think it is so easy to find a good LS fit and when you are in an LS you get invested in it often (like helping people with stuff and giving them stuff etc) - so then to have the chance that people will find out something about you and then make you feel terrible or kick you or something - why would you want to chance that and lose your social effort?

(Making friends and allies is work - pleasant work, often - but still work)

There was at least one linkshell posting in the Rab forums advertising that they were not *** friendly - so that pretty much proves that homophobia still exists - it is still an issue and people have a right to seek out safe spaces.

I don't understand why that is offensive to you? You may say that your sexuality isn't an issue blah blah blah - but really? People are always saying things like "oh my wife this" or "my girlfriend that" - it isn't about sexuality par se - but if you are a girl talking about your girlfriend coming over so you have to log - people are going to figure out you are ***. Should you have to hide it?

I mean seriously. What is the problem with people seeking a space where they can be themselves?

I think I'm misrepresenting myself here.

I think it's perfectly fine to ask for a *** LS. I don't see the point of mentioning that you're attractive or *** if you're just looking for any LS. That was the only problem I had with the post and it was fairly late when I wrote it. Rewording I probly would have said a lot less that meant more.

I get what you're saying about dumping a LS mid-game, but I just can't see people not standing up for the person being bashed. The majority of people, no matter how they feel will keep it to themselves. So that odds that more than one person in a random LS would start gaybashing without being taken care of by the rest of the shell seem slim to me. However you're right, I've never been in that situation and I don't fully understand.

And that bit on Rab about the no gays really ****** me off. IMO the only segregation in MMOs should be because of communication, and most people can at least somewhat effectively use autotranslate so there's no reason for it on this game.

That's the issue. You can try, and a lot of people do, but ultimately it's impossible. Attempted understanding and being emphatic only go so far, sadly.

That's more than I can say for most people, though.

Yeah, I understand completely, but from the FFXI viewpoint. I wasn't in a linkshell when I started playing and got up to level 50; I hit the barrier for Limit 1 and almost quit. A random person I remember grouping with noticed I had been stuck for two weeks and offered to help (literally a few days before I was going to cancel), then began testing to see how I'd feel about being in a static group and playing a Bard.

Sure, the rest of the game's mechanics still irritated the utter **** out of me, but at least the company made it almost a non-factor. I think it's the same way with FFXIV.

EDIT: Holy crap. I just saw the OP mention his age and realized I completely forgot my birthday this year.

This is so true.

Finding a *** LS on Fabul was the best part in starting XIV.
I used to play in XI with a linkshell for literally months on a regular basis until I found out how homophobic they are. That made me suddenly be in the closet while playing a game in my own home on my spare time. It was too much and I had to quit the LS even though I hadn't joined another one.

So yes it does make a big difference.

If I have to watch my words whenever a topic involving my partner comes up. It's beyond uncomfortable and a situation I will avoid if at all possible.

Hahaha funny but true. He has a point hahaha!

And what's that point exactly?

Yeah, I agree. I don't see anything funny; all I see is another typical moron that decided to go on a rant about his homophobia. Know what I don't get? Heterosexuals commenting on *** topics and then getting ****** about said topics. Granted, the OP wasn't exactly posting for a purely *** crowd, but it's close enough. That's like a vegan walking into a butcher shop and working himself into a foaming frenzy.

I think you just amply demonstrated why *** people often feel like they should announce that they're *** up front rather than later on. It's like sending a canary into a coal mine. You say "I'm ***" and wait for some jagoff to launch into a "that's what I hate about ****'s[sic]" speech, and if no one does, then you're probably okay, and if some one does, then you don't waste any time with that group.

Plus, you might not think there's any reason for *** people to announce they're ***, but I don't think there's any reason for you to announce that you're an ignorant ****, but you did it any way.

That some douches play their homosexuality as a mean to drag attention.
I have a lot of *** friends but you can't really tell they are ***. They don't go introducing themselves as homosexuals. Not because they are ashamed, but because it isn't ******* relevant.

Do you go up to chicks and tell them you like to f/ck girls? No. It'd probably **** off a lot of people if you did too. Why must we be informed of where he likes to put his wang?

Believe me. The fact that I happen to be *** is seriously the least interesting thing about me and yes, in this particular instance, it was a complete throwaway line to provoke a conversation/reaction. I did mention that above, but clearly, it was tongue-in-cheek and meant in a humorous fashion.

That doesn't make me a douche (there are other reasons, I'm sure), but maybe simply misjudged my humor's appropriateness. Interesting to gauge the reactions, though.
