HORSEsh*t: A I JUST GOT BANNED FROM FORUM CRITIQUEFollow

#1 Dec 23 2010 at 2:47 AM Rating: Decent
2 posts
Hello Final Fantasy fans. I just got Banned by Kaolian for making sockpuppet accounts to evade a mute. I have only just now realized this really irritates the admins who will be reporting me to my internet service provider, in this case a Quest DSL modem with a static IP address that I did not bother to mask via proxy or other methodologies, if I make any more sockpuppet accounts. Ever. In closing, I would ask that if anyone sees me return, please take pity on me and report me so that justice be done upon me and I'll have the unmitigated joy of explaining to Mommy why the internet no longer works at home.

Regards, etc. Your Loyal former forum troll,

TOMMMY WHOM

What exactly is the point of making a sock puppet. Someone let me know so I can start making some.

It's so you can troll without worrying about your main account's karma. They're retarded. The only legitimate uses of socks are for guides that have multiple contributors--you post it under the sock's name so that everyone involved can have the account password and edit the guide as they see fit. And those are approved by an admin.

Well, after doing laundry one sock usually goes missing out of a pair... better then throwing it away. Why not make it into a puppet, at lest it can keep a hand warm and you can talk to it when all alone... not that I have ever done that.

The following has nothing to do with the topic above, but it is something related to the actions taken against the OP.

I remember back in the day something similar to this happened to me on KillingIfrit... I investigated and tracked down a guy who was "given asylum" on my old XI server, Carbuncle. He was originally from Bismark, and was someone who had acquired some of the original "hacking" tools that were ever released. These included warp bots, claim bots, AH bots, etc. You name it, this guys had it. He was the kind of guy who warped to where you were fighting sky gods, waited for you to lose claim at some point, claimed it, and called for help. Needless to say, this guy was a piece of garbage. The guy ended up getting banned from his server... until he found a linkshell on Carbuncle that was willing to trade him a toon for his tools.

I ended up finding out about all this stuff through hearsay, and following forum posts through related linkshell websites. In the end, I took their entire linkshell out at Tiamat pre-MPK patch. It ruined my reputation on the server, and I regret that part of it. But what I don't regret is the fact that it caused the linkshell to break up, and the guy who was given asylum ended up being banned from the server (again), never to be heard from again (at least not that I or anyone else knows of).

In defense to my actions, I posted a large thread on KI about this particular event, as well the history behind the linkshell and the guy who was basically claiming everything for them, as well as helping people warp behind closed doors to get things faster. I ended up being banned from the forum because someone in the linkshell was really good friends with one of the admins, which resulted in me being banned lol

[TLDR]

Long story short, I can understand teh frustration of being banned by admins, or having their internet service actually affected by forum posts. But I also know he probably deserved it, and I really don't know the whole story.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!

Oh. So people actually go out of their way to make new accounts and such just to avoid getting rated down? Wow I thought my nerdy *** took this site to serious(since I post here several times a week) Some of you nerds reeeeealy take this stuff serious eh? The next time someone thinks about making a sock account they should force themselves to say what they are doing out loud face to face to another person so they can actually see how stupid it sounds. "So Jim I am about to make another account on this video game forum website so I can tell my true feeling without being rated down on my real account by other computer nerds.Yes I care what strangers on the internet think, and yes I do care what color my name shows up as on said website."

There should be a dedicated sticky thread to anyone who makes these sock puppets. Their main account(s) should be identified and tied to their sock puppets by our admins so we can all laugh and ridicule them in the thread since they care so much about what strangers on the internet think about them.

My question is, if you're posting something that you know you're going to get rated down for, why are you posting it in the first place? Is it just an attempt to ruin the community by starting multiple flame wars? I mean, I just don't get it.

It's like the jackasses that come on here just to complain about the game when they quit weeks or months ago, and when they are confronted about it they use the excuse "well I'm just here to voice my opinion because I'd like to see the game improve." I'm sorry but ******** and complaining on some third party forums is not having the desired effect, if that is indeed these guys intention. If you want to provide constructive feedback o the game, SE has a feedback/suggestions form right on their support site. I'm fairly certain that direct communication with SE is far more effective than a post on some forum that the devs will probably never see.

I post stuff all the time I know I will be rated down for but then again id rather tell my true feelings than sugar coat how I feel just so my name can stay the same color.

Fair enough, but at least you man up to it. I share my opinion no matter what people think of it as well. If I have something that I think needs to be said I want people to know it's me saying it.

Honestly, creating 'sock puppet' accounts for something like criticism is just a slimeball move. I run my linkshell's forums, and you better believe that if something like this were to occur over there the offender would be banned from more than just one forum.

Really, if he's creating these accounts just for criticism, what's to keep him from creating sock puppet accounts to harass people as well? that's insta-ban material.

...damnit, this thread has me all worked up now.

It's for when you're certain that you are absolutely correct but that no one else will realise it because everyone else is absolutely wrong.

Now, that raises the question of how often a single opinion that runs counter to everyone else's opinion is worth listening to... but the people with that unique snowflake opinion rarely stop to think about that.

It goes both ways. People also create socks to rate up their main account.

Thought you couldn't rate up accounts with the same associated IP address? I know I can't rate up my girlfriends posts, and she can't rate mine up.

If you were a chick, I'd give you mine.

But as we're both guys here, all I can say is, you kick ***, man.

This made my day.

1 - Be a complete douche with no balls for your own position in arguments.
2 - Care way too much about karma on your main account.
3 - Create sock to say intentionally inflamatory/useless things 'safely'.

The rest of people, like me, take their rate-downs to the chin like a man.

(And I'll take my rate-ups below the belt kthx)

That would have been Killuminati and his cohort Rustymetal, Bismarck's wannabe e-thugs. Had a personal history myself with them. Ended up pranking them a few times. They were kids with nothing better to do. Getting them banned was a glorious day.
