there is a place for both AH and Wards...Follow

First and foremost, I love the AH system. I thought that it had its faults in FFXI, but quickly we all got over them.

This morning I was supposed to get some bread, but I didn't have time to go all the way to a supermarket and I thought about how nice it would be to have a bakery in town. Then I thought about the Farmers Market that goes on in my city every Sunday morning. The vendors set up Bazaars and patrons walk by and sample things, buy things, and chat with friends.

Why cant we have both? A supermarket and a farmers market. An Auction House and the Market Wards. The AH would be for all regular quality items and it would be a less social environment. Kinda like how if you want to buy a lower quality item one would go to Wal-Mart. The Market wards would be for +1, +2, and +3 items. If one wishes one could then visit all 3 sets of wards to find that special item in stock.

This would then put our retainers to work more effectively. We all have a hodge podge of regular items clogging our inventory; however, very few are high quality items. In fact the ones that we do have come from crafting or gathering specific things so we can easily use 2 retainers and sell all of our stuff.

I disagree, because they are made of two conflicting ideologies. the AH, or any centralized market, promotes open pricing information, allowing you to buy at the best price, and requiring sellers to sell at the market price.

Retainers, and the entire market ward system as it exists now, hides prices from users, and requires a lot of time and effort to determine what prices are. These are both done (by tanaka's own admission), to allow crafters to make profits on items that are otherwise unprofitable. It stacks the deck in favor of the seller, and against the buyer.

What? Have you even used the wards? The prices are displayed right next to the item. The AH in XI hid the prices from users, the actual prices weren't displayed anywhere at all. You could only see the prices of items that sold in the past, not the price of the item you were bidding on.

I believe Kuja was referring to how you can't get the prices for that item on all retainers on the current market, and must move from retainer to retainer to find the different prices.

You couldn't do that with an AH either so my point remains.

Next ward update will show prices so there is no point. once they do this the wards will just be a crapy AH.

Yeah you can. Item search, you type in Moko Grass and it gives you a list of all the moko grass sales going on and you can sort by either time left, current bid price, or single/stacks. So yeah, you can see all the prices of moko grass on the market on an AH system.

All SE is doing is giving the players an AH masked as a ward system. as soon as they ad the price/keyword serch to the wards its a crapy AH. they could of saved a lot of time just adding an AH. there will be no "the seller wins" It will be a buyers system.

I love the wards. They add more character to the game and with the new search function i feel that they are easy enough to navigate and find what you need. I don't wanna feel like i am shopping on Amazon.com while playing an mmo. I do like the OP's idea. You would still get the functionality of the AH with the grassroots shopping experience that is more in tuned with the general atmosphere of the game.
