Retainer Search Includes All WardsFollow

#1 Dec 23 2010 at 8:00 PM Rating: Excellent
So while browsing around today for this and that, I left my item search active while I traveled to another ward. To my surprise, my searched item (Lightning Shards) showed up in other wards! I experimented around with it a bit and found out that it works as such:

* The initial item search will only list how many of a given item are for sale. This works in either singles or stacks.
ex. a search result of 5 Undyed Canvas means that there are 5 listings, not 5 individual pieces or stacks per se. These listings can either be 5 seperate stacks of xx or just 5 retainers each selling 1 piece of canvas.

* This search result will only pertain to it's given ward.
ex. searching for a Silver Scpeter will only list how many are listed in the Spellcraft Ward.

* Even though the search system will only list an item in it's given ward, retainers in other wards will still show up with a star over their head if they have your searched item.

I didn't really see this posted elsewhere, so I thought I'd let you folks know!

This information has been drowned in threads that have been filled with arguing and derailing, but I hope this information eventually spreads. :)

Because that's too convenient for you. NEXT!

Also, it can show something like

Under
Clothier's Ward
>> Fiber
>>>> 0 Raptor Sinews

That means somewhere in this town, a retainer is selling Raptor Sinews. However, if the line "Raptor Sinew Cord" doesn't appear at all, nobody is selling any of those, which happened to me earlier.

Now, the 0 returned, compared to the absence of the object listed means that someone was selling sinews, just no cords, and that he wasn't selling them in the correct ward (Clothier's). I let the search on and then teleport from one ward to the next until I saw the red dot and star.

As expected, he had some Raptor Sinews for sale. I snatched one, made the Cords myself, and got myself a nice Dodoskin Field Belt+1 for my effort.

Yay!

This is incorrect. The 0 means that at some point, someone sold the correct item in the correct ward for that city. I tested it with Apkallu Down being sold on a retainer in the Tinkerer Ward and Apkallu Down was not available on the search at all.

You just got lucky in that circumstance.

Glad to see this information finally making a front page showing.

I found the best example of this, for those who wish to test:

1- Go to lower tailor's ward.

2- Search for Dream Tunics, Lv 1 (I found 8 of them listed)

3- Go to Lower Tailor's Ward and count the total number of dream tunics (I found all 8 of them)

4- Now go into Middle Tailor's Ward.

5- Count how many Dream Tunics are present on those retainers (I found TWENTY-ONE!!!)

Summary: The search you perform only gives you the number of items in the correct ward. If you mark those searched items, then every single item for sale on all wards will have a pink star over their head.

When I wanted a certain lance that was on the search list, but had a zero next to it, I marked it anyway as I wandered the wards, and came into the Spellcrafter's ward and voila! There was a pink star, and she was selling my lance. Sweet!

I have been wondering about this. I found the item once too, but haven't actually sat down to test many items to see if a zero on the search means it is in the history or that there is one for sale.

My next question is...will that history (with all those items with zero inventory) disappear after server crashes or update? Or will it be permanent. I actually like having that history, as it lets me browse a large selection of, for example, weapons, than are actively for sale.

And now we need a free warp traveling from one cities' market wards to other cities' market wards. Just like the chocobo circuit in FFXI, make it one centralized location.

I found an explanation about how the search function works.
Might as well share with you guys since this topic has already been mentioned since its first day.
