i am not understanding the attribute points completly. i know what they do and all but what do i do if i want to play as a glad and a con? do i have to have 2 charaters since you can not get all of your points back. or am i not understanding this correctly? not to bring back ffxi but in that when you changed jobs all of your stats changed and unless im missing something that is not the case in ffxiv. it just seems silly to have to split your points up if you want to play as two different jobs so that niether have the best stats.

When you reset your points it only gives you back a certain number of points. The reset button then goes on a cooldown (the time is based off of your phy level) until you can press it again. You are supposed to continuously stockpile your points until you have reset them all, then once all have been reset, you can spend them. At your level, i would guess that it takes a couple of hours to completely reset your characters points.

ahh ok so technicaly i can have a high level melee and caster but will need a few days inbeween playing them to get all the points were they need to be? thats fine as long as it is possable to reset them all even if it does take a while.

A few days is a while. I'm not level 50, but i doubt itd take more than a day to completely reset. But yea, just make sure not to spend your points till youve completely reset, or till you've got all the points back that you plan to spend.

I read that at 50 it takes about 6 hours to reset it, can't confirm.

I just wanted to add that you can buy traits with guild marks that can convert stats just by equiping them. At least this is true for Pugilist...I've not played the other melee classes yet.

You can also divide your points to build a hybrid character, since the higher you get with your attribute points, the more costly it becomes.
For instance:
From 1-40 it costs 1 points.
From 41-80 it costs 2 points.
From 81-128 it costs 3 points.
From 129-cap it costs 4 points.

Say you have only 140 VIT 15 INT and your base VIT/INT are 15 for easy calculation sake. It costs a whooping 288 points. Instead you can use that 288 points to have 100 VIT and 88 INT.

There are also traits that you buy with guild marks that covert mage stats to melee stats and vise versa.
To a total of 15 stat point movement. If you have a melee high enough to have all these traits and a mage with all these traits you could essential use them to assist with jumping between jobs on the fly.

Mage bought traits
Complete Control: Converts an attribute point allocation of Mind +5 into Dexterity +5.
Driven By Faith: Converts an attribute point allocation of Piety +5 into Vitality +5.
Will of Power: Converts an attribute point allocation of Intelligence +5 into Strength +5.

Melee bought traits
Mind over Matter: Converts an attribute point allocation of Dexterity +5 into Mind +5.
Asceticism: Converts an attribute point allocation of Vitality +5 into Piety +5.
Muscle Memory: Converts an attribute point allocation of Strength +5 into Intelligence +5.

Each of these also have a "II" which does the conversion of 10 points. When both traits applied giving a 15 point swap.

I myself am lvling CON as my main. But I would however like to lvl GLAD and PUG.
I will get DEX and STR to 50 with given attributes as my phys lvl increases, but will not go higher.
All my other stats will go into VIT(HP) MND(MP) PIC(Mag Acc) INT(Mag Atk)
And when I assigning these traits it will either assist in boosting my mage stats or sub and from mage stats and add to my gimped melee stats to assist in making me not so gimp LOL!.... im hoping it will do the trick.

But this way... i am hoping to not have to re-assign stats ... ever... hopefully. We will see.

Have you used the stat conversion trait though? I'm under the impression that you can not use I and II together.

You -CAN- use I and II together. Tested it just now. Works. :)

I'm assuming you can't get the traits like Complete Control, Driven By Faith, and Will of Power more than once, right?

For instance, I can't level both CON and THM to 15-20, get enough guild marks and get Complete Control on my trait bar twice, can I?

You can't; you can only buy these trait once, and on any of your Disciple of Magic job. Similarly, you only need one Disciple of War job to get the opposite traits, and can only get it once.

Pardon my noobish. These Guild Marks traits are temporaily and can be swap to different ones and therefore allow you to convert your Attributes accordingly?

Yes; they "cost" you traits points, which can also be used to equip things like "healing +10%" or "+50% shield uptime". You can change those anytime on the field as long as your weapon is sheathed.

I use the -5/+5 and -10/+10 traits a lot because I have never clicked respec since creating Cloe; my stats are 80/84/100/80/80/80, and then I use the traits to alter them to melee or mage.

Wow excellent!!! Thanks for answering my question. I guess I will work hard on guild marks to earn those goodies. Probably is good for crafting and mining too.

^This is exactly what I am hoping for!!

This is how I plan to allocate my stats:

Str Vit Dex Int Mnd Pie
70 - 100 -50 - 110 - 95 - 80

MAGE using Traits to alter stats
(+15 INT/MND +10 PIE -15 STR/DEX -10 VIT)
55 - 90 - 35 - 125 - 110 - 90
with rings (PIE+14 INT+7)
55 - 90 - 35 - 132 - 110 - 104

MELEE using Traits to alter stats
(+15 STR/VIT/DEX -15 INT/MND/PIE)
85 - 115 - 65 - 95 - 80 - 65
with rings (STR+14 DEX+7)
99 - 115 - 73 - 95 - 80 -65

I think with these set-up... never having to re-assign, my mage will be in very good condition and when I switch to melee I will be in decent/good condition.
