Hi guys

My PC crashes/frozen since Dec 21 update. It literally always happens 5 mins log onto FFXIV. I was told that this is usually a video card driver problem and a combination result of a new buggy update patches. I updated my driver and the problem kinda stop. However, it still happens randomly and the latest crash just happened during Behest and it is really frustrating.

My video card is GX260 and the latest update released at October. Any suggestion? Thanks

I recomend that you run 3 or 4 different virus scans and also spyware scans since they are not always the same thing.

Good luck but if your infected its nothing a reformat wont fix.

I never thought about the possiblities of PC infection. Although my guts feeling tells me that is not the issue but I will give it a try anyway. Thanks for the advice Corny.

Another thing tha tyou need to consider is CPU tasking.

I have a quad core 64 bit AMD with 8 gigs of ram NVIDIA GTS450 and fast HD's (blah blah blah)

But I also use dual screen with widescreen monitors. Simply using dual screen taxes a video card severly adding a nonstandard widescreen resolution doesnt help much.

My second screen often uses IE with no less then 4-6 game related tabs, Loadstone , ZAM, YG, LS FORUMS, and some other stuff for crafting.

I noticed a noticable decrease in performance when IE is open because of all the FLASH and misc other animated Adds that appear on these sites being processed on multiple tabs my IE uses no less then 25% of my CPU's. When i exempted my game folders form antivirus scanning it helped alot.

Just in case your dual screening just wanted to let you know that when i went to one screen and didnt have any web browsers open the game ran alot smoother.

The game is so CPU intensive that even the most seemingly mundane background processes could make it apepar to lag when their CPU time spikes even a little.

If your not scared to take the side pannel off your PC you should put your hand near the video card to see if its radiating a severe amount of heat when the game does its freeze up. and also check to make sure that your video cards GPU/CPU fan is actually spinning and not obstructed by a cord or a dead bug (the term came from somewhere)

Take care not to touch a spinning fan with your ungloved fingers they can shatter your fingernails if you hit them at a bad angle and cause lots of pain use a pen to prod fans to make sure they spin at acceptable speeds.

In addition to what's been mentioned, keep an eye on your video card temps. There are a few different programs out there to add a little display to games that show your fps and temperatures etc. Anything above 90 or so degrees is pretty risky. This game can reek havok on your video card if you have your settings up too high and insufficient cooling/airflow. If your video card gets too hot your system will freeze/crash. If that is what's happening, you may want to look into getting better airflow in your pc case or turning down your video settings.

In addition you may want to list some specifics such as the nature of the crash. By this I mean is it a Blue Screen of Death, Crash to Desktop, or does the PC completely shutdown without any error screen and restart?

If this is a Blue Screen of Death, you may also be getting a mini-dump file that you can look over that lists that last known processes running and if there were any faults that occurred.

If it is Crash to Desktop, your card is overheating and the driver fail-safe is kicking in to restart the driver so as not to burn up your card.

If the PC completely shuts down and restarts, your PSU is not sufficient during certain loads cause your PC is requiring higher power than the PSU can supply. If your PSU is bare minimum for the card and system, look into upgrading to one with higher watt capacity. This will be especially true if you overclock your system and video card. If you can't afford a better PSU, then you will need to lower your overclock range.

I use GPU-Z:

It logs a lot of information on the "Sensors" tab.

Maybe I should describe my PC crashes during FFXIV. Basically the game just frozen and sometimes music keeps playing, sometimes not. I have a I7 Quad Core with 6GB ram and GX260. I will check all the above mentioned issues.

Thank you all and happy holidays. Please feel free to add any other suggestions. Take care!
