after the leve rest today i started getting bonus exp. i read up on it and from what i understand that happens when you have reached the exp limit for that week. if this is true then how did i reach this limit within 30 mins of the reset if i only gained maybe 3k exp. also my exp does not seem to be higher or lower then before it started saying this just under my phy lv exp bar where it saysd 54000/89000 the 54000 is now in yellow writing. im confused

If you level up a lot with ONE class, your SP will reach a limit and start depreciating slowly 'til it reaches zero or the weekly reset occurs - if you level MULTIPLE classes non-stop you might reach XP limit in which case it start depreciating as is the case with you - it'll slowly keep decreasing 'til it reaches zero but you can still rank up your classes - or you might reach reset before you reach zero.

From what i can tell each class has their own timer on when your xp/sp reset. Just yesterday i went into phy xp (bonus) and about 30 mins later it went away meaning my timer on that one aspect resets. Found it by sheer luck actually same with my LW sp... i know that resets around Fri 7pm est being i went into the bonus sp and about 3 hrs later it went away. From what my ls mates tell me, its a bit different for gathering classes, being i only briefly touched them.. cant say on it.

I think the reset you are talking about is the leve reset. This is different than the reset for surplus/bonus xp

I really wish they wouldn't call it 'bonus' .. there is nothing bonus about it...

I just hit "Bonus" exp for the first time today. At the same exact time, I hit Bonus SP on one class. Twenty minutes later I hit bonus SP on another class.

THIS SUCKS.

It actually IS a bonus.

Say you hit the cap for SP.

If you continue to kill mobs that would have given SP, but now give bonus SP instead, that contributes to how much SP it will take to reach the SP cap once the cap is reset that week.

Bonus SP increases your SP cap for the next SP cap reset, in other words.

For example: You reached the SP cap this week after 12,000 SP. (made up numbers - I do not know the true cap)

You acquire 12,000 bonus SP after reaching the cap, and then the cap is reset for the week.

You will now have 12,000 extra SP added to your new reset cap for the week - meaning it will take 24,000 SP before you begin gaining bonus SP.

However, any gain of bonus SP in the new week will only add the bonus SP to the original cap SP limit the next week - it is not added to the 24,000 SP cap you had this week.

For example:

Week 1: SP Cap is 12,000 SP ~~ Got 12,000 Bonus SP after reaching the SP Cap this week.

Week 2: SP Cap is 12,000 SP + 12,000 Bonus SP added from last week ~~ Did not reach the SP Cap this week.

Week 3: SP Cap is 12,000 SP (since I did not get any Bonus SP last week) ~~ got 3,000 Bonus SP after reaching the SP Cap this week.

Week 4: SP Cap is 12,000 + 3,000 Bonus SP added from last week ~~ Did not reach the SP Cap this week.

Week 5: SP Cap is 12,000 SP (since I did not get any Bonus SP last week) ~~ Got 10,000 Bonus SP after reaching the SP Cap this week.

(again, made up numbers to explain the cap feature since I do not know the true cap numbers)

I hope this make sense or if it does not, someone else can help me explain it better!

lol sorry but this is SO not how it works

on alchemy, i did the 80k SP required to "cap" and hit fatigue
then i did another 100k or so one week into that.

the next week, sure enougnm, after 80k, im right back in it, according to you it shoulda taken 180k

nice theory though

In beta they called "bonus" sp "surplus" sp, which I think is more accurate as it's extra sp in a sense. And no, it's not used for anything. So "wasted" sp may be a better name. lol

Surplus is such a joke.

I hit surplus on XP one time, but it still capped before the decrease was even noticable.

It's SE's polite way of telling you you are playing too much FFXIV.

Just like when your boss fires you and calls your severance package a "termination bonus". :-P
