Retainers getting kickedFollow

Sorry if I missed official info on this, but is there some time limit now to how long a retainer will stay in a ward? Because ever since the search function was added to the wards, my retainer keeps getting kicked out of the wards every day or every half day, no matter which category I put her in. This is without any server maintenance. My husband has noticed this too. We never really sold with our retainers before the update so not sure if that is the reason. But it's REALLY annoying cause our items don't get sold with this system.

I just got fed up with this, too.
Whenever I log back in or come back to town, my retainers are gone.
If it's a feature, at least tell us the time limit, so we can plan ahead.

Pretty much every server reset, and there's been a few problems with the wards. I don't think it's meant to be a dail feature, but some servers seem to be hit worse than others... maybe if people spread out their retainers... but it still seems there are only 2 popular wards and that could be part of the problem.

Think they said there will be a fix for this problem in the first 2011 update.

Welcome to the world of poor design. An AH would fix this.

having seen this exact quote from this exact poster in no less then 2 threads, I think I will just rate it down whenever I see it again. If you dont like the design explain to me why you play the game enough to have rank 20+ in all your jobs.

Please do rate it down and by the way retainers getting kicked multiple times a day is bad design. If you are to blind to see that then I dont even know what to tell you.

-coding is not design-
The retainers being kicked is bad coding.

Edit: to further clarify, For the retainer issue to be bad design, it would have to be working as intended. if it was working as intended, it would not have been slated for fixing in the jan '11 update. Therefor it is bad coding.

Bad coding is bad design.

Design relates to vision and end product effectiveness and ability as a whole. Retainers are not even close to being completed from the official posts. Its a work in progress. If you want to compare it to a house, you are living in a house while its being built and complaining that their are problems and people getting in your way.

Maybe if this was beta, but this game went live 3 months ago. What you are basicly saying is nothing in an MMO can ever be called bad design because an MMO is never finished.

It is a bug.

A bug that could be the result of either poor design (a system that can't handle certain conditions or loads) or bad coding (an error made by the developer when the design was implemented). But what difference does it really make what the cause is? There is no reason for us to be bickering over symantics. It is obviously not working as intended and I'm sure SE will resolve it with a patch soon.

Edit:

I'd also like to add that the wards "crashed" twice yesterday on Palamecia. I was trying to access them while they were down. The menu that popped up when I tried to enter the wards only had two options "Close" and "Return". Both had the same effect. This lasted for about 2 minutes, after which I was able to enter the wards. There were no retainers on any floor. It seems to occur very randomly and effects all floors of the wards. This was in Ul'dah, I'm not sure if the other city wards were effected at the same time.

To to OP:

My experience with the retainer reset leads me to believe the wards are lagging out. Being as every retainer acts as an individual entity there is a lot of data in a very small area. (if you played FFXI remember how the AH area was in Lower Jeuno in the days before Whitegate? Lag city)

I have noticed that I will have to reset my retainer pretty much daily if I have her in the wards in Ul'Dah (regardless of ward, although the last 2 times its been in the lower tailors ward). In LL it seems to be a once or twice a week thing and in the time she has spent in Gridania I have had to reset her once. On my server the Ul'Dah wards are far and away the most populous followed by LL then Grid.

Could be coincidence, but thats my .02 on the subject

PS: To the guy arguing that its bad coding rather than design it sounds like you aren't familiar with work in IT. When a project is implemented before you ever program a line of code you create a model of what you expect it to do and how you intend to make it do it. Because the ward feature was poorly designed it does not work properly. In the IT industry bad design is something that doesn't work because it was poorly thought out, bad coding is something that doesn't work because of typographical or logical errors. Bad coding is fixed in minutes, bad design can take weeks to overcome.

The wards servers crash almost daily as well which removes all the retainers (been happening for months, not just after the search patch). I'm convinced they are running the wards off an iPod. Or a thumb drive. Or a floppy disc.

I believe there is an intentional and official reset every few days (4 days, 5 day, or a week or something), but the frequent, seemingly daily dumps are actually due to the wards crashing.
