What is the elemental cycle in FFXIV? Is it different from FFXI?

I heard it's 2 separate cycles:

1) wind > fire > ice > wind
2) lightning > water > earth > lightning

Is there any official information?

yes, those are the official elemental cycles. One is astral and one is umbral. Information about these can be found at aerethytes.

thanks for the info.

So if I wanted to increase my magic damage in, say, Water, I would have to alot more elemental points to Water?
and for resistance to water, i would increase points in lightning?

Sounds right according to old info on lodestone:
Quote:
Increases damage dealt by attacks of that element
Reduces damage taken from attacks of the opposing element

High water stat would make your water nukes stronger and increase your resistance to earth-based attacks. I haven't played with different elemental stats as much as I'd like.(I had mine set up hoping to influence shard drops from gathering for the longest timeSmiley: lol)

Water erodes Earth. Over time, water wears down the land creating valleys, caves and even creating new land by depositing the sediment elsewhere. Do your geography, it can be a fascinating subject.

And thus, the likely reason that wind and earth are on different wheels. Along with Fire (extinguished by water).
