With the festive spirit of the Starlight Celebration still lingering in the air, the nations of Eorzea have already set about making ready for the next grand holiday—Heavensturn.

Heavensturn is a celebration that marks the passing of the twelve moons in the night sky, and with them, the vigil of each of the Twelve over the realm. It is on this sacred day that one among the gods wins celestial favor, and whose aspect thus exerts the greatest influence over the fate of Eorzea throughout the coming year. Clergymen, soothsayers, shamans, and others versed in such matters foretell that with this turning, the time of Halone, the Fury, will come.

Yet despite this annual significance, a strange and powerful gift, newly come to Eorzea from a faraway land, has begun to divert the attention and admiration of people across the realm, both smallfolk and adventurer alike. Said to be a principle element in the celebration of Heavensturn in the Far East, it is a mighty helm masterfully spellforged in the likeness of a rabbit. Adorable to some, atrocious to others, and appealing to adventurers for its attractive attributes, this rare, leporine headpiece may prove attainable by those with festive proclivities.

Articles and machines of war seen throughout the land with unprecedented frequency... Halone, the Fury, goddess of strife and struggle, poised to impose her will on the world of man...

What fate lies in store for Eorzea in the coming year...?

Dates & Times
Approx. 7:00 a.m. on Friday, December 31st, 2010 to approx. 7:00 a.m. on Monday, January 17, 2011 (PST)

Since 2011 will be the Year of the Rabbit, SE has given us the Usagi Kabuto.

Usagi being rabbit in Japanese.

Always the sucker for event stuff...

well i was thinking that this event wouldnt be exactly the same as the christmas event. Maybe something like ffxi evil samurai thing .

Also its not that they left the bells up . Its that they just recoloured them and reused them. Not a fan of item event myself . I prefer actully fighting event bosses and minigames.

People complain there are no events, people complain there are events, complain about copy and paste, complain about slow patches, complain about compl.. er...

You get the idea heh. I'm happy they are adding events without (at the moment at least,) drawing too much of their time away from making FFXIV a better game overall.

Okay I'm disappointed.. sorry to say but I'm gonna have to complain this time too..
This is not newbie friendly and not available to everyone at all, let alone casual players.. what if you're not a crafter..? Now it's not only the final items but even the mats need to be crafted and mostly from rank 30+ crafters..! If you didn't take time to level up crafting classes(or just started the game) you're gonna have to pay someone to make most of the mats if you want one of those "fashion items"..

Let's take a look at the mats shall we..? Look at the emphasis...

Kabuto Mask: Iron square (Armorer rank 21), Darksilver square
(Armorer rank 31)

Blue Odoshi Cord: Cotton Yarn × 4, Woad-blue Canvas Dye (Alchemist rank 29)

Black Odoshi Cord: Cotton Yarn × 4, Raven-black Velveteen Dye (Alchemist rank 39)

Black Urushi (Alchemy Rank 21-30): Raw Urushi × 4 (Obtainable randomly among other items every 8 hours.. meaning that it'll take you more than a day to get all four if you're very lucky to get one every time..), Iron Ore, Honey

Silver Leaf (Goldsmithing Rank 21-30): Silver Nugget × 3

I'm not saying that I want cakewalks.. but it seems like they're missing the whole point of an event... in FFXI event items were available to anyone regardless of their classes and level.. and that's the way events should be..! This instead looks more like craft-fest..! -.-

Just accepting everything won't improve the game. Besides i never understand why just typing a few words of complaint ****** so many people off. If i was a developer i would want people to complain.

I actully dont give a sh*t about events myself. I like actual fights. Like this last event i could care less about some inventory wasting items. However i didnt complain because it was a new event in ffxiv and some people enjoy it. But they just copy pasted everything from the last event into the new years event it annoys me and i want them to know that i would not like the future events to just be copy pasted .

No.. they're not mentioned among the items obtainable by the bells so no Twinkleboxes.. and people who manage to complete multiple "bunny helms" will surely put them up for sale for a ridicolous price.. you'll see..

Actually, you can get the NQ (normal model) from the bells. If you want the colored versions of the head gear, then yes you'll need to craft it yourself or purchase from someone. It's in the update notes.

And so you'd be going through all the hassle for just a different color..? I'm expecting the colored helms to have at least some stat boosting feature then...

From the online databases available, all three helms provide a HP, MP, Perception, and Control Boost, except that the standard Kabuto is a Rank 1 Optimal Item (HP/MP +9; Perception/Control +1), while the Black and Silver Kabutos are Rank 20 Optimal items with higher stat variables (HP/MP +14; Perception/Control +7.)

This stuff was already put into the game with the previous update, stats aren't special...
NQ
Black
Silver

****, beaten to it. Oh well..

I still want one. Sure it's nothing amazing, but it's somethin' different to do and more goof-off gear is always appreciated.

The stat boosting feature is a matching outfit... personal pride... or whatever. If you don't care then don't complain. It's a minimal effort on their part to give us something more than what we have without detracting from their efforts to make the game better everyday. You get the NQ, cool... You want a coloured one or whatever... well make it or find a friend to make it, and then flaunt it. Or save the mats until you can make it yourself someday.

Collect the mats and then sell them when the PS3 folks come one board (hopefully not at a ridiculous price, but even 1k each is a profit for something you got with 0 effort). Collect the mats and give them away to random strangers... etc...

Fun is what we make it.

Actually you can usually find canvas dye in the churgions row for anywhere between 500-1000 gil each, which isn't bad. I've seen darksteel buckles and iron squares on sale for reasonable prices too. Perhaps the idea is to create a sense of needing someone's help to complete these item quests. It's not really that big of a deal when you go about collecting the items.

Eh.. well I guess we'll see how everything sorts out when the event starts then.. :/
I just hope people aren't going to inflate prices for this stuff.. which imho is obviously going to happen.. yeah I'm a tad pessimist.. but that's what happens when demand increases.. isn't that..?

well i know i can make both of the cords for very cheap, and will probably be giving them to friends for nothing. I only hope other people end up doing the same, perhaps trading items they can make for items they need. we'll see ^^

The complaints thread is in the main btw.

As for not being able to craft. I for one am holding on to the ingredients from the events until I can get high enough to make +1's or better. I am in no rush to have them today.

Control 7 on a head piece that is good for all crafts? that is pretty good, and a definate must have for me in my mind.

I have a control +8 hat that is only good for 1 of my crafts, so having one that good for both is way better.

Yah Pikko, I was sitting on like 5 and had a full suit already, so we just took a tally of who needed santa suits and did a world tour trading them in and handing out pieces.
It was very holiday spirit-like!

The twinkleboxes were nice in my opinion, those who couldn't craft their own stuff, and didn't want to pay 100k for a piece had a third option.

i do not like to craft at all, the number 1 reason i dont craft is taking too much time. now how the **** i suppost get the crap when all my craft at lvl 0? even though why cant SE make the event item easier to craft.
i guess they expect everyone is a "professional" with only 3 months of playing since the game came out. btw i thought theres a fatigue system to control lvling speed...

Anyone else think they might open up Ishgard with this? If you talk to the guards outside, they tell you that the gates will open when the time of Halone the Fury comes. This holiday implies that something like that might happen. I guess I'll be standing at the gates at midnight.

I don't see them opening Ishgard any time soon. Sometime in 2011, I think it's pretty apparent that it will be made available but for the New Years event? Probably not. I don't think the game could handle it right now. There's a lot more involved in adding another city like that than simply patching in the .dats and letting people bust their way in.
