I'm experiencing some incredible lag in town and near crowded crystals. My setup is as follows:

MSI 790FX-GD70
965 @ 3.9
MSI Hawk 5770 @ 950/ 1280
4GB ddr3 1066
Seagate 1.5 TB HDD
Windows 7 ultimate 64
23" 1920x1080

Everything is stable, as I ran prime for approximately 18 hours with no issues what so ever, as well as MSI's bench that comes with the afterburner software. Initially I was thinking that my GPU was just too underpowered, but my temp. NEVER goes over 60c. I was thinking about pushing it a little more, but I don't want to fry the poor thing. If it is my card, should I just buy another hawk and run xfire, or should I try n sell the hawk I have and buy a 5850 or one of the new 6800 series? If I'm not mistaken, my board will run 16x/ 16x in xfire so I imagine the performance would surely be noticeable.

Thanks in advance guys/ gals.

Edit: By horrible lag I mean my fps drops to 20ish in congested areas, while out n about I run around 55 fps. My game settings are windowed 1920x1080, everything set to standard, shadows on low, AA and all the other stuff is off.

Check your GPU usage with Afterburner while the game's running. Also check if you have any memory leaks. Update drivers, etc. What FPS are you experiencing?

As we speak my GPU usage runs about 85% (adventurers guild in gridania) and I've been on for roughly 1 hour, in windowed mode.

Edit: wrong % :)

If you haven't already turn off Aero in Windows and see if that makes any difference.

To be honest, with the 5770 and at that resolution your FPS sounds about right.

Wow. I went to performance options and clicked best performance (disabling aero?) and my GPU usage dropped by roughly 40%. Thanks for the tips!

I don't know if GPU usage dropping that low is such a good thing. What's your FPS now? I (and countless others) had the problem with my GTX 480 only running between 30-40% usage and my FPS was extremely low, around 20-50 FPS no matter how high or low my settings were. Downloaded a modified Nvidia driver that bumped my GPU usage up to 85-90% and my FPS shot up to 40-60 FPS with everything on high and very high, with 16xCSAA.

Also, turning Aero off involves going into your "Personalize" settings and setting the theme to basic Windows 7 over Aero.
