Stars showing up in different wards on searchFollow

So tonight I needed some dye, looked it up via search and went to the ALCH ward to pick it up. I didn't turn the search off. Instead I went to the battlecraft ward to see my retainer to pick up some things...low and behold there was another star over someone name in the battlecraft ward, and they were carrying dye!

Is this new? A bug? or am I just behind the times ><; and didn't know...

Its always like this, if there is an item on the list and it says 0, that means someone is selling it in the wrong ward. Going through every ward, you might find the item you are searching for. Otherwise its not in the list at all.

If the item on the list says 0, it means someone has sold the item in the correct ward at some point in the past.

It has no relevance on if anyone else was selling stuff in a different ward, because those do not show up on the search at all. It was easily tested by looking at two retainers in the Tinkerer's Ward selling Apkallu Down, and Apkallu Down not being an available search option.

I found it really useful yesterday when looking for Pyrite for my Goldsmith. Did a search and saw there were '5' for sale and so went to Mason's ward and found one guy with five stacks ('5' was not clear whether it meant 5 total or 5 stacks - thats confusing and needs sorting), but he was selling for what I thought was a high price. I decided to run through each of the other wards starting from top of the list all the way down to the bottom. I got about 5 stacks of the stuff for about the same price as one of the stacks the guy was selling in mason row. Very very useful and really not that much bother at all. In fact it prolly took me less time to do that than it would of to search one ward in the old system pre-patch. One thing to remember with this is that even though the tiem list in the search funstion might show that there is 0 for sale, you can still search for it by selecting and then running through the other wards. It would be more useful if there could be someway to list which wards have retainers selling the item in order of quantity (as well as price order). Hopefully SE will continue to work on this.

it means how many stacks not how many people selling, and it's only for the correct ward

people seemed so hateful at first because they thought they could only look up items that are suppose to be in that ward. If they would have given it some time they would have realized it actually shows them in every ward with the stars.

Your example doesn't relate to what I said, and then how do you account for the items that have been sold in that ward previously, dissappearing from the list? btw thanks for the rate down :)

That's simply because items that were previously sold in that ward do NOT disappear from the listing. There may be something that causes them to disappear, but it's not from zeroing out. As far as I can tell so far it is working exactly like how the FFXI Auction House stores its item list, where once an item has been sold it remains on the listing even if it was sold 5 years ago.
