ffxi veteran myself... sorry to say this, but don't bother...(not yet at least) return your copy to the store and save your money. this game is outright crap. bought myself, and deeply regret it.

Luckily it was in the discount bin for about 9 dollars (after what...3 months out..) but for 9 bucks i could have gotten a kebab and a beer... which would have given me longer lasting joy than ffxiv.

Aside from it beeing total crap, dont expect it to be anything like FFXI at all what so ever either. Only carry over is the style of the races.

FFXI Caleberiel - retired from Titan since about 2 years.

FFXI veteran here too. Although the game has its floors I assume you know about all of these before you bought it right?

Glad I've left FFXI behind to be honest and am in the ground up version of SE's newest MMO, a big upgrade to FFXI and a game that looks like it is currently in a state of flux, is free to play and has a player base that, if they have stuck around this far, are generally enjoying it.

I have been working on a specific class and also spent time crafting, both of which I enjoy but are certainly a different experience from FFXI. Don't expect end-game content yet, or much quest based content other than storyline and class specific. Do expect to re-think how you create your 'job', re-think how you craft and look forward to what I believe will be great game in the coming months.

One thing, if you can find any of your mates, then join their linkshell asap. I think its even more important in FFXIV that you are part of a linkshell as it will be the people you meet there that will make the game more playable.

And to finally to answer your actuall post, do you not have your friends emails etc? If not you might find it hard to find them, even posting here. Plus don't forget that everyone now has a first and second name. :) Good luck with finding them and I hope you enjoy.

Good luck finding your friends. You may actually have better luck searching for those names on the lodestone... though I did a few and they are not coming up...

As for this game... expect a lot of newness and a lot of good times. The game is much more "sandbox" style than FFXI currently but new content is being constantly added and the game is consistently getting better.

If you can't find any of your old friends I suggest looking in the server forums - checking out some linkshells there. Like Edy said, at the moment having a linkshell right at the beginning is a huge huge huge help - and there are lots of good strong shells out there that are happy to take new players and show them the ropes...

When it comes to sitting around not doing anything for long periods of time, only being active for short windows, and marginal changes and sidegrades I'd say FFXI players were the perfect choice for politicians.

Hey! This is actually Plato's daughter, but i would like to inform you that here he is. He does own FFXIV and we were just testing out beta mode. I will tell him that you wanted to track him down. And, btw, his username is now Platocygnus Xi, and he is using the Diabolos server.
