A New Year and FINAL FANTASY XIV Player's Poll the First Follow

To be honest, it scares me.

The poll (in a way) is comforting because clearly the director is listening to people's needs, but the limited number of choices and only being able to pick 1 thing on a list really, really scares me.

It scares me because I think AH will win (and I think the game is fine without an AH) and I want some real content. I want more story! I want more adventure! I want Chocobo and Airship and more zones and more history and more NPCs (of consequence).

I intend to play this game for a long time but I'm legitimately scared that things could turn fast into something I don't want to play (WoW, I'm looking at you) based on "majority" opinion.

Would this be better for the majority and for XIV sales? Probably, but I was really looking forward to playing XIV and I'm not sure I can handle a serious overhaul of life as I know it in Eorzea.

CHANGE, I'M AFRAID OF YOU. Please go gentle on me.

In the guys defense, though...

Tanaka was the guy with a vision and even if his vision sucked he just kept on trudging forward hoping some day we'd all recognize his genius. He did it in XI and he was doing it in XIV and now there's a new guy at the helm.

The only thing any of us really knew about the new director is what Wada (no comment on his merit) said he really cared about customer satisfaction. I'm sure he wasn't selected randomly and I bet he does have a vision or a way to improve Tanaka's vision. He may just be taking a survey of interest in what he should focus efforts on and in what order.

Maybe only 1-2 things on the survey are really things he's considering, but if PVP comes back at 99% (NA/EU/JP) interest then he's got to really think about that, you know?

I don't really see this as submissive as much as I see this as a "Help me to help you" survey. I really ... um ... hoped for some direction by now, though. I was hoping for a very detailed post about what he plans to do. Feedback from us is great and all, but I don't like development limbo.

They could make FFXIV a first person shooter. That's change too, but I don't think anyone had that in mind when (/ if) they agreed to change.

Well i'm sure development isn't in limbo, they're still giving us what they listed for the early 2011 update, i guess this is what will determine what comes next. Honestly, I don't care at this point, I'm looking forward to anything.

I still want an Auction House, and I picked Auction House, but then I thought about it and decided that I can -tolerate- the current system until other things are fixed FIRST if they are planning to an an AH later.

I still prefer an AH to the current system, but I think the current system is manageable for the time being, and now it is time for other issues to be addressed first.

EDIT: That last question REALLY makes me think... I think the question is way too vague for me to be able to confidently answer it because either answer has the potential for greatness or the potential for ruin.

I picked yes, but... I'm not really confident in my yes. I would not have been confident in no either; but I think I'm slightly less unconfident by yes because I think that if it comes down to "Okay, X will make the game better BUT it will change the game too drastically so we're not doing it", I don't want "This is the way things are" to be a limiting factor for the game's growth. If the game can move in a POSITIVE direction as a result of mixing it up, then so be it.

I just hesitate when I think of the possible NEGATIVE ramifications that could come as a result of changing the game severely, a la SWG.

I still went with yes though.

To me it is more like he needs to know what the players wants before he do something. He do not want to messed up doing something that majority of the players will be unhappy about. If he did then things will get worst doesn't it? It is just a part of decision making process. Chill out and wish you a happy new year! ^^

I'm glad for these questions. Hopefully it happens, then I won't have to buy SW:TOR and I can fully play XIV:

What is your biggest expectation for the newly restructured development team?
An overhaul to fundamental gameplay aspects

Which of the following issues you would like to see addressed first?
The Armoury system

Which of the following would you like to see implemented first?
Other
A change to classes.Bring back class roles. RedMage,Geomancer,Ninja,Thief,Paladin,DrkKnight,Monk.etc

What do you find most appealing about FINAL FANTASY XIV?
Other
The world, lore & graphics. The lore is promising, reminiscent to Ivalice.

Which of the following would you like to see implemented into the Lodestone?
Official forums

Would you welcome changes to FINAL FANTASY XIV that would drastically alter the rules already set in Eorzea?
Yes

This guy isn't a General leading us into storm Normandy. He's a guy trying to make a game alot of people will like.

I found this part quite thoughtfull,

"Forgive our translators if these buzzwords seem a bit cryptic or cliché, but I am using these English words as-is in the Japanese, and insisted they use the same words for a global resonance. "

/screams MORE CONTENT MORE CONTENT!!

Right now it is just a beautiful, empty, boring world with only a few things to do to keep me occupied for less than 3 hours every other day. If they are not going to add more quests they need to at least make leve quests available more frequently. Also some of the leve quests do not seem to be set up correctly. At rank 27 my friend and I are doing the rank 30 leve quests at one star and they are easy so we decide to set them to two star and the mobs are red. Red? Really... I do not see how they can have the mob con jump from blue to red between a one star difference.

I also notice that my weapons seem to become damaged much more quickly. I am not sure if this has to do with the mobs, but I recently upgraded to a higher ranking weapon and it seems to need repairs much more quickly than my previous weapon. (Guess something I will need to research)

I normally enjoy crafting, but while they have made some great changes to the recipes and they are much more easy to do, I have found that I am now bored with crafting. Perhaps it is because I do the crafting quests and of course those are only available every 36 hours. >.< I do not like to grind, but this game is all about grind even more than some other games I have played.

Please no more grinding!!! Need more content. I want to be more involved in the game. I want to be able to learn about the various lore within the game. While I play perhaps 2 to 3 hours a day, I would like the ability to log in on my off days and spend as much time as I can playing the game, but with the limited quests, I am left to grind... Grinding=SLEEP..

I am glad they have put efforts in the market wards, but they still need some fine-tuning. Seriously, my retainer is just a bank at this time, because I tend to sell items more easily from my own bazaar. I am sure many people do the same, if I go by the fact that many people's toons are standing around places like the Adventurer's guild with their little for sale icons.

Either way, I feel that the most needed item for this game is content. More quests, but not leve quests. Leve quests have us kill such and such mob so many times and after a while there really doesn't seem to be a point to it. Yes, the quest may say that the imps are doing this and that to so and so, but seriously, haven't the imps learned their lesson yet? Don't they know they will die every time?

Oh, btw thanks for fixing the skill point system!!! I play a pugilist and my friend plays a conjurer... I was leveling much more quickly than him and I hated to know he had to grind just to keep up with me. /hugs

(/whispers but sort of miss being higher than him...Shhhh)

Hi everyone, I'm new here.

I've been playing about a month now. I understand some of the frustration I've seen in reviews of this game, but I believe the Final Fantasy crew can make it better. I'm willing to stick it out and hopefully be one of the veteran players of this game someday. In the meantime... I'm making a lot of hempen cloth. :)

I'm glad the team is trying to stay in communication and doing what they can. But I'm a bit concerned with them incorperating too much of other games and losing it's FF spark. Asking what other games I play in the poll... I almost didn't want to answer.

I know they want to see the fruits of their labors and not see years of work go down the tubes. I know that people want things fixed, and I agree they shouldn't have released it as it was. But I do implore people not to push at them so hard that they rush too fast and really mess the game up. I think they have a good start in the feel of it, just needs some rehaul in areas. The battles could be a little bit more exciting, and there needs to be a bit more to do. I have trouble targeting, especially in a crowd. I have a hard time seeing the arrows. Or I'll be tabbed on it, but it's not moving into battlemode against that target.

Getting a bit tired of the market crashing too. :) Be nice if they could get it stable. As for an AH...I'm not sure if I want one or not. The star system works for me, and I like my retainers.^^ They're Sun and Moon Miqote and I named them Dawne and Dusk.

I want to see more storyline quests/sidequests, that was my vote. Story was always the #1 reason I play FF. I can get past almost any technical/mechanical issues just to see the story. I love how they incorporate the characters we made right into the scenes. I can't imagine the work that went into making that.

Anyway, Happy New Year's everyone!^^

For some reason I was just reminded of a funny line from an interview with the old guy on Pawn Stars.

"If it ain't broke, don't try to fix it. If it IS broke, it probably ain't worth fixing so BE A MAN!"

Ya, it doesn't make a lot of sense but it still makes me chuckle.

When they asked what needed to be addressed first I picked as my first choice the market system, but when they asked what should be implemented first I picked more quests (I think it was the top option) instead of picking the AH option ^^.

I hope this doesn't confuse them....basically I was saying I've gotten used to the idea of no AH and think the market system as is can be improved without one.

The main point here is that since the AH option is an option in that poll, they've obviously conceeded on allowing it to be implemented so all those people still wanting it - you'll probably see it soon.

Edit - @Mikhalia - I was a bit concerned about the last question two. Not because it was too vague, but because it was too narrow. Yes I'm open to change, even dramatic changes to the world rules - however whether I like the change depends on what exactly they're considering change for. But I answered yes.

I don't know if I would use the word "soon". That's a pretty substantial system to add to any MMO and it's not going to be designed, coded, and tested ready to push live any time "soon".

Agreed, but the word "soon" has enough vaguity (did I just make that word up?) to it so as to keep people hanging without and expected implementation date.

The "soon" that would have kept people around was the "soon" they could have used a couple of weeks after launch. "Soon" now is too late for a lot of people.

I decided on Lack of Content, Main Scenario Quest/Mini-quest, and Official Forums. I can honestly deal with the current system as it, because I have had zero trouble locating everything I need. If they would do anything with the current market ward system, just link the three cities into one big ward and I'll be satisfied completely with the ward system. I know it's not the popular census, but I would not mind if they did not make an auction house because for me it's fine, but for others, I cannot say for them.

I just feel like I'm grinding for very little reward at the moment and that bugs me more than lack of auction house. There are no endgame areas, no super hard "Gods" to defeat, and no epic story line to complete. At this point, I'm grinding for the sake of grinding. And what is even worse is that my disciple of choice (Land) won't be a part of those epic fights, so I'm really worried what our endgame will consist of.

Is it necessary before people starting coming back? Probably.
IMO it's one of those things that if it isn't there, people will hate it not being there but if it is, they won't be all that happy. It's something that's expected in this day and age. The only other game I can think of without an AH is GW and the players have been asking for one for 5 years now.

BTW, I don't think this game is ready for PvP and I don't think the dev team knows what it's doing yet to implement it right.

I sort of agree with this. I think the game needs some serious work, but I definitely don't want it to be another WoW just because they implement everything everyone asks for and everyone asks for WoW features.

The AH is a great example. Right now, after the search feature, an actual AH is somewhat low on the list of needs. It might be a bit more convenient, but we need story quests and more varied areas to explore and such. I'm worried everyone is too used to crying out that we need an AH to pick things we need more right now.

Another is PvP. There are certain things I expected when getting into this game based on what the devs said before it started, and one was that they wouldn't be focusing on PvP or possibly even having it at all.

So much of it could easily go either way too. Like that last question, I'd love a complete overhaul of the SP system and the flow of character advancement through levequests and fighting enemies (grinding). But I don't want them to completely remove the things that work well like the stamina system for combat.

At this point, I wouldn't mind if it did become like WoW. It'd be a notable improvement, and the graphics were always my main barrier to WoW anyway.

Anyway, I voted for combat changes, favorite thing is the cutscenes, want more quests/stories, more content, and for updates from the dev team. Overhaul? YES.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

Change, even a complete makeover to the point where our current characters have to be done away with.. I'd have to imagine whatever they put out there would be an improvement over what we have. However.. I believe most of the development team is still intact there, and they had half a decade to deliver what they have. How in the world can we expect so much better in a much shorter period of time?

I'm concerned they'll try to implement what we've been asking for, what they have on their survey there, but it'll be rushed and thus shoddy compared to what it could've been. I chose yes on that "Would you welcome changes to FINAL FANTASY XIV that would drastically alter the rules already set in Eorzea?" question, but I'm doubting that if they chose to blow everything up, I'd really be pleased with what they then came up with. To me it's just the lesser of two evils at this point.

If you are not happy with the current game or you log in and are bored or you feel burn out setting in vote YES for the last question. If you love the game the way it is and see yourself being happy with it for years to come as is then vote no. Either way its just a game and no matter what happens life will go on.

If he wants to know what people are thinking he should go read the forums all over the places instead of asking such superficial questions with answers that could be interpretted in so many different ways.

On top of that, I still don't think the game went wrong, but needs to start producing a decent flow content.

I take the quote to mean alter the rules of gameplay, rules of combat, mob placement, mob behavior, character "personalities" (more class definition?), make party combat a larger front runner while keeping solo play as is? I don't think they're gonna take 6 years of work, throw it out in the trash and start over...the reason they are doing what they're doing now is to salvage the millions of dollars dumped on this game, not to dump 5 million more on top of it.

I am generally a PVE'r, but I certainly enjoy some good PvP action in an MMO. However I really think PvP should be waaaaayyyy down on the list of priorities for this game. There's about a half a dozen things that need a complete overhaul before they even think of adding PvP.

I can't imagine how boring and lame a pvp match would be, standing there with your feet glued to the ground trading abilities until someone dies. I mean, I did Balista a bit in FFXI and at the time it was sort of fun-ish. That was before I was introduced to more action oriented pvp. Where you run, jump, dive, swim. Mind control another player and jump them off a ledge to their death. Cast a pushback and blow 10 people off a ledge to their death...

I also agree with some of the other guys that AH is needed but thats not the thing that make ppl go, "man this game used to suck, but now that there's an AH it is AMAZING!". Along with content, I really think a completely new combat system would help more than anything.

At any rate, this new guy has really got my hopes up in alot of ways. I honestly don't doubt he can turn this into a game the majority of us can get behind. But at this point I am more worried about the competition that will likely be released this year.

I clicked "other" and then typed in auction house and more story-based quests/mini-quests. I found it annoying they they only allowed one choice so I picked the two I found most important.

I really think this game needs an auction house to establish it's economy and then a **** load of story quests to keep people entertained while they fix everything else.

And before anyone starts rambling on about how we don't need an auction house, I don't really care what anyone else thinks. It needs one since clearly Square doesn't know what the **** they're doing with the market wards.

You had that already, look where it got the game.

For the debate about content vs auction house, if you think about it, if they add enough content FIRST, people can people enjoy the content while the AH is implemented next without skipping a beat. (well, hopefully, anyways.)

Either way, it just seems better than doing it the other way around. If you have the AH first, thats all well and good but now you have to wait even longer for content to come out. And what are you going to do in the mean time, spend all of your time in front of the AH?.... for months?

Or it could be the guy was droped down in to this over welming mess and truly has no idea what to do yet! You expect the guy to have a full vision of what he wants to do with this game in a month? This game is all over the place. I expect it to take a good 2-3 more months befor they have an idea where they want to go with this game. First they need to sort out the mess the first dev team handed them.

The fact that he wants to know what we want. And is willing to hear what we have to say is good news to me. Sure he needs to come up with his own plan. But he also seems to want to make sure that plan meshes well with what the fans want. And I like that. I can't say that FFXIV will not fail. I can't say that I will keep playing it. But I can say no matter where I fall in the next few months I will be keeping an eye on this one to see where it gose.

Whilst I was hoping for an announcement detailing the vision for FFXIV's direction in
2011 from this post, I am not unhappy with this poll.

I am slighty concerned that people are screaming out for an AH when we now have a semi-functional search feature in the revised wards (when they are not crashing of course!).

There are clearly more pressing issues.

Whilst I do agree that the game is bare bones and requires a little more content, not in my opinion at the cost of an overhaul of the games fundemental mechanics. There seems little point adding more content to the game if this can not be navigated/utilized properly.

The Combat system is still very unrefined and sloppy. What happened to the rework on the targeting system? Macro-system for gear changes and abilities fails too often with glitches causing slots to be ignored, then forcing the player to manually ammend them anyway. Regardless of the countless conflicting posts, SP outside of levequest still needs attention. There is currently little incentive for party play outside of leve/behest. This is a major element of any MMO. As such needs reviewing.

I feel too much in this game is still predestined by a dice roll or coin toss, this applies particularly to crafting. If the toss goes against you, your are going to fail your synth regardless which abilities you use, how you manipulate the wait command or even how much control+ you stack. I do not feel that the developers are a million miles away, just that too much is unbalanced and out of sync. Having experimented with redistribution of point allotment it feels that STR DEX INT and PIE still have only minor impact on how my character performs in battle. VIT and MND being the stats that strongly affect a characters growth.

For these reasons (and no doubt the many more I ommited) I feel that SE need to address the fundematals of game mechanics first with balance and parity so we can actually enjoy the content as and when its added.

(Sorry for the long post, I do not usually post but felt the need to vent a little!)

I voted Combat System, then More Content, then Forums for lodestone.

I voted "No" on that evil last question. I can tell you, that is asking for a license to destroy the good elements. I would much rather see the game develop within the major constraints, but make real improvements in usability.

11 managed this very well. The fundamental elements of the game remain to this day.

Fix the battle system so that it is more fun and engaging, so that rewards are equivalent to effort, and so that working as a team is worthwhile.

Add new elements of content so that this big, beautiful, empty world is alive and vibrant.

Don't give license to the new kid to toss out the baby with the bath water.

Happy New Year, everyone!

Ok this game needs REAL quests. Not any of this Levequest counter bullsh*t. But real NPC quests. FFXI style. I do'nt care about AH, I don't care about PvP, PvE. We need SOMETHING to do on EVERY rank, waiting every 5 or so ranks for ONE storyline or job quest is just a slap in the face for a FF game and to its player-base.

GIVE US SOME REAL QUESTS.

I'd hate to see an AH added in before the end of the retainer improvements. First and foremost should be PvE, quests and mini games like parley actually being added. I'm not for a drastic rewriting of the rules, because that may be very bad with the one exception of the party based combat system.

I avoided the 'other' option with a fill it in because it will be a mere footnote and not counted properly on the results. Even though I did want to put all of the above myself.

I went with game information, as a crafter I really wanna know the basics of stats and how they effect crafting, not to mention we can more exactly pick out the bugs and glitches.

An AH, truth be told buyers and sellers are still missing each other, especially when they reset the wards. AH like in all games, were the focal point of socializing, I feel the wards limit it.

Official forums, direct communication is important with the dev team, important things can be missed on 3rd party forums. Gameplay and leve quests, getting 5 rank 1 leve as a 20 something crafter is aggravating to say the least.

I would take a nerf on graphics to gain better game progress, and more responsive gameplay.

My thought on PvP, NO,NO, NO, did I mention NO. It limits PvE way too much. Boss HP =/= Player HP. Don't want to play another PvP institution like wow, aoc, aion, ect..

Personally think that the ZOMGWENEEDAUCTIONHOUSE people are rather sad. I loved the AH on FFXI, like going there and pretty much getting all my needs met. It was nice, but I actually don't mind the market wards. Yeah, they still need to work on it, there is definite room for improvement. But, I actually don't mind not knowing the exact price that things are usually going for. Call me crazy, but I'm actually enjoying it now. I have been able to get items at really low prices because of this and I can also barter more than on FFXI. Yeah, people do sell some things for too much gil at times. But, the funny thing is, you don't have to buy it.

It is funny how people feel that they have to have everything right then and there. I mean I have ADD, I like fast and flashy things, but I have been learning to slow myself down. Is it so bad that you have to wait for a couple of days to get the gauntlet of uberness at the price you want? ****, you still have to wait on FFXI and they have the auction house. WoW has an AH that isn't exclusive to each country, its a universal one and you still have to wait to get items. So, is it really all that different? If you want everything handed to you immediately, play a linear rpg, not an mmo. If that isn't quick enough for you, you can use cheat codes as well. Yeah, being a bit of a smart ***, sorry just in that mood today.

That being said, AH is probably going to when or at least be a close second. Because a poll is about seeing what the majority says. From what I have seen most people complain about NEEDING an AH. I didn't know that I spent the majority of my time at the AH for it to be such a huge issue. Apparently I'm not playing the game correctly due to the fact I don't realize how important having an AH is. They're making improvements on the market wards and it is getting better. Not being fanboy about FFXIV, just saying this isn't a huge issue. Though, they do need to fix my disappearing retainers -__-;;

I'm hoping that the content one will win out more than the others. I want to be able to immerse myself into the game and I can't do that without content. I need npc's running around and interacting with other npc's. I need to be able to do retarded quest x from random npc Z. I need to see npc's out in the world of Eorzea and not just in the City States or the settlements. That's what I want to be addressed first. Hopeful, but not expecting it to when out in the poll. I'm sure my concerns will be seen to at some point.

I think its funny people want an AH so bad, it wouldnt change my opinion of the game at all. Ive found all the gear I want through the star search system, if anything I believe an AH would result in prices rising due to increased competition, good for the crafters probably but as someone who only levels Con/Thm I couldnt care less, ive got my wands and gear that will last me from 30-40+

The real concern should be over fixing SP for parties and, more importantly, endgame content to give people more incentive to reach the level cap. A controlled PVP would be great like in XI, so many fun times had without caring about gaining XP or farming gil. And its okay if certain classes arent even matched, many times in XI it was a group battle rather than one on one. Then we need some high level quests, perhaps some AF armor type quests, more NMs and interesting things to do endgame until they raise the cap. But yeah, imo PVP would be great since it would give alot of us something fun to do besides grind while they work on endgame content.

They should have a comments section at the end or something...

"Please take all of the great things about FFXI, scrap the very few not great things, and just make a +1 version with awesome graphics set in a new world"

That would be my thought anyways. Doubtful that it would have majority support =P

This. This I miss. I miss the old style of FFXI parties, when you had to know elemental weaknesses, skillchains, magic bursts, etc. Yes, it had it's problems, but it also encouraged communication and team-driven strategy. I'm not saying I want them to implement old style FFXI combat, but I desperately hope they scrap the current solo-centric combat and find a way to make it worth grouping with people for leveling, without destroying, or seriously hampering, solo play.
