I'd like to see what most people chose on today's poll and why. I feel it's pretty important to know why people feel some way about what needs to be fixed.
That said, I don't want this topic to turn into a flame fest or debate topic. Just post what you sent in on your survey on the Final Fantasy XIV Experience section and why.
1. How much time per sitting do you spend logged in with your main character?
A. Less than an hour
Explanation: Really not all that much to do in game right now. I bought a metric **** ton of Steam games this holiday sale, so those are taking up most of my gaming time.
2. How do you spend most of your time in Eorzea?
A. Gathering (Including levequests)
Explanation: The gathering in this game is very relaxing for some reason, despite the mini-game every time you hit a node. I can just pop in for a little bit, hoard some more items, and log out and feel like I have gotten something accomplished.
3. What is your biggest expectation for the newly restructured development team?
A. Increased communication with the players
Explanation: I feel this is the most important aspect for any online game. People's tastes change, other games evolve and make you go "hey I wish I had that in my game", and sometimes developers just put stupid stuff in their game. More communication between developer and customer helps us correct them and tell them what we would like, and it helps the developers make a more loyal user base. Speaking as a software engineer myself, there is no software project that suffers from MORE communication between developer and customer.
4. Which of the following issues you would like to see addressed first?
A. The markets system
Explanation: Novelty aside, the market wards are making a lot of people turn away in horror. Very few people like shopping for items in video games, and I think most of the problems that the market wards were set out to solve went unsolved, while introducing a lot more. That said, don't completely erase them. Leave them as is or just devote less time developing for them. MMOs that have both an AH and a bazaar system use both; slow selling items or items that can't be AH'ed are put on a bazaar.
5. Which of the following would you like to see implemented first?
A. Auction House
Explanation: It's the easiest and probably the most profound change that FFXIV will get. More quests and leves and crafting recipes and whatever are nice, but fixing core mechanics on a game should be top priority. I'd like to see a simple to use AH with simple rules: unlimited item posting, either a single buyout price or both bid/buyout prices, sorting by name/price/level, and knowing who's selling what for exactly how much.
6. What do you find most appealing about FINAL FANTASY XIV?
Explanation: I like the relaxed pace of the game. Long travel times aside, short leves are awesome. Logging in for a bit to gather or craft is awesome. Non-twitchy combat is awesome.
7. Which of the following would you like to see implemented into the Lodestone?
A. Official forums
Explanation: See above for increased developer communication. I don't buy into the whole "we don't speak English therefore we CAN'T have official forums". Tons of international development teams hire translators and community managers who are bi or tri lingual. If you want to make all of your customers happy and loyal, you have to let them know that you're actually paying attention to them. Canned messages are not the way to go about it. Official forums should be easy to set up and moderate, and are among the top communication channels between developer and customer.
8. Would you welcome changes to FINAL FANTASY XIV that would drastically alter the rules already set in Eorzea?
Explanation: I'm not exactly sure what they're asking here, but I assume they get altered for the better; in which case, yes. The game will still be patently FF, it will still have an FF feel and story to it, so if I can get to experience that in a "better" way, I'm all for it.
