on the Game is actually pretty good. Its not FFXI but for the first 13 lvls as a Gladiator it was bad. of course we got minor issues w/o an AH. but the new system ain't bad to use. the graphics are good and the new active battle system is something all game will do in the future to prevent random AFks midbattle. the mining and other resource gathering tools are great. i havent tried crafting yet. all in all the game is actually pretty decent to start with and i can't wait to see future installments. Kudos to SE for changing MMOs for the better. yes i know i haven't partied much yet but i'm sure over time they will fix it(if its broken).

Agreed.

Crafting is fun too, it's about as far away from FFXI's system as you can get.

The only issue right now is that once you've tried crafting, you've basically seen all of the game. But there's an upcoming patch which will hopefully address that.

I'm glad you like it.

I have been playing since beta and the improvements have helped a lot. I have a great time duoing for SP, killing NMs and even crafting now and then. The best part about the game though, is the Story missions/quests and I cant wait for SE to add more similar content.

Yep, the first 15 levels are actually pretty entertaining. Not as much once you hit 20+...

I'm not having so much of a problem with no AH as I'm having finding low level gear. People seem to be making higher level gear only because anyone can use it and it's got a larger profit. If there was one thing I wish they'd changed in this game it would be minimum level requirements.

you know you can buy rank 1-20 gear in the wards from NPC's right? I think SE implemented this to remove that issue.

Then you're doing it wrong. :P I've been having a great time doing leves and behests at 30+ and can't wait for Gobbies and NMs past 40.

Btw, if you haven't seen the r40 behests, you have no idea what you are missing! True boss battles. :)

Yea me too. i havent seen any NPC in the wards that you can buy gear off of. well at least not at a fair market rate anyway. i just hope some people realize that low lvl gear is a must have in the wards or new players may become very discouraged. I already feel slighted cause my next sword is like 30k and 1 person has all 10 of them.(>.<). maybe after a few mid level levees i'll have enough to buy one.

100k plus is a fair market price for gear FYI. Once you start doing r20+ leves and behests, you can pull in hundreds of thousands of gil per day without selling a single item.

That funnytoad is not boss. That funnytoad is weaker then real funnytoad outside like in Tam Tara >_> and give measly SP too. The only fun time I've had with r40 Behest was when the Gnat spawned in unreachable location and we tried to figure out how to get to them, at the end the archer did it. Dang cheating Battlewarden, he just teleported in and out of the unreachable location.

Sad, but Behest doesn't give any challenge, since you can't increase difficulty like leve and mobs are weakened compare to real ones outside.

You can play unlimited ammount of hours per day, what happnes is that if you get a certain ammount of Skill Points in one week (not sure, maybe 30k, 40k ?) then this returns star to be reduced...

are the SP used to gain lvl? or is it more like a talent tree from WoW? Or is it more like Diablo to change your base stats?

SP = skill points. Skill points are used to level your class. You also earn XP to level your physical level which ultimately earns you attribute points, which are freely assignable. You can also freely assign skills earned by ranking up various classes. Your main job doesn't matter as you can assign any skill you've learned from any class. The only limit here is that you can only assign so many skills based on your class rank, and that some skills are limited to certain classes, but they are the minority.

Assuming you put in the time, you can get all skills to rank 50. Your physical level caps at 50 too.

Game is completely different from release, especially at low ranks. Unless you've actually played it recently, your impressions of the game are not going to be accurate.

I stopped playing mid-October and only recently came back mid-December. Game's a lot more playable now than before. There's enough content to keep you busy until they add more, as long as you know how to look for them instead of simply trying to rush your main class to r50 as fast as you can. I'd go as far as to say I'm actually having fun in the game now, as opposed to before when the most I could say was that it was tolerable.

Are you implying SE is playing some sort of hide and seek minigame with the content?
Because for what I see, the only content there is currently without being rank 50 is do some leves, then behest, then repeat until your brain runs dry.

I believe this is only for DoW and DoM classes. For DoL and DoH you're SOOL.

This is a major problem and is compounded by the rapidly dwindling server populations.

I'm implying that the game is what you make it, and nothing I can say will change your mind about it, and vice versa. I'm having fun doing hourly behest, leveling my subjobs for abilities to use on my main, and leve linking with my LS-mates for fast exp. I'm having fun crafting gear for myself. The game runs flawlessly, there's no more ridiculous UI delay, and fighting mobs isn't a game of frustration anymore.

If you're expecting this to be a WoW clone, you're certainly looking at the wrong place. If anything, this game will probably end up an XI clone, which I'm completely fine with. Are there still lots of things wrong with the game? Sure. Is the game still lacking considerable content? Sure. Is it unplayable and unenjoyable? No, it's not.

I hope you're right. Sadly, if the rebuild and reboot process goes in any number of directions, much of the progress outside of material, equipment, and gil accumulation may be lost, which is why I'm focusing on those areas instead of leveling, and even those activities may ultimately be rendered meaningless if a complete rebuild and reboot process takes place.

I agree with you there, as well. I have slowed down my playing, big time, until I see what the new dev team has in store for us. Right now, when I log on, I feel like I'm playing with uncertainty. First, they give us that cryptic "verse", then they give us a survey with the last question being, "Are you ok with us changing the rule set of how the game works now?", that is a game changer, question.

You can't change a rule set without starting over and doing things over again, irl and in game. Until I see their game plan for this year and what they are doing, I can't burn myself out for no reason. Once I see what their course of action is going to be, then I'll start playing hardcore again.

For all we know, Yoshida has already started his campaign of changes from Oct/Nov. And they just waited and kept working until the announcement for Tanaka'a step down, then given us the Dec. updates, just to throw us a bone. Then he introduces himself to the community, then they give us a survey to see what the majority of the fan base wants.

It all just seems like stall tactics, to me. Just until they were able to complete the changes, they started working on since Oct 2010(guesstimate). Because, if we, as a community, think they are now just starting to work on the major changes to the game,... fooling ourselves. It would be months before we saw any new content if that were the case.

(1st observation)Look at that list, Tanaka gave us, for the updates we would have seen Q1 of this year. They have yet to make mention of it again, and I doubt we will see that list anymore. Something new is coming. The REBOOT will soon be here. Whats the point of changing a director if they are not planning to take the game in a different direction. The director is the visionary. Tanaka could have stayed on, as director, with all the other changes, to the team, still happening. If this game was just going to be about keeping the same game play/rule set, but improving UI & Content, there would be no need for changing the direction.

-Yoshida is a vertean MMO player. (Knows how engaging/active an MMO should be, and probably walked into the FFXIV office and said "WTF are you guys doing to this game? This is what you call an mmo? This game is droll like a ****." And he probably gave some friendly advise to Tanaka, and Tanaka realized this young kid has vision and will probably take this game to where it needs to be.

-Tanaka is not an mmo player. ("I don't realize that this game is to slow paced, where story and content are concerned, I'm having visionaries block as to how I can make this game more engaging")

Right now my mind set is at a stand still. The Lore is there, the races are there. But, this game just does not feel like a final fantasy to me, they didn't set it up right to draw you into the world. Where are the directors that made the prologues intro's for "Vagrant Story" and "Tactics:War of the Lions"?

I'll say it again(other forum posts). For a Proper FF MMO experience they need to:

-Re-do the Armory system. Main role type classes. No sub job mechanics( would feel to much like XI. No ability swapping, we have Red Mage, Blue Mage, Paladin & Drk Knight for that .

-Use the "Tactics" job and ability list as reference. Evolve it an make it work for an mmo.

-Get rid of the weapon, armor/accessory degrade. Your appealing to casuals, this is annoying and a time sink.

-Equitable items need to be lvl specific. It adds to the overall fun of the grind, and having something to look forward too when you ding.

-Let crafting be a separate mechanic away from the main story line. FFXI mission 2-3 was a dragon fight for crying out loud, and you needed a full party to beat him. Cooks and Weavers..etc, shouldn't be out trying to save the world from the Garleans, that just make no sense.

-Add familiar FF npc's, icons, references to the world. Some, right from the start of the game to get that feel.

-Lastly have the story progression be something similar to FFXI, and more. FFXI did this well, story arcs and selbina milk runs are just non-existent in this game and its depressing. Bring back the dialog, quest giving, npc's. Its like the dev. lost their developing, insightful mojo in the past 4 years. There is like no back lore to how those crystal, aerthorite camps came to be, and how they got there. Whats the deal with that?

These changes alone would make this game feel alive, robust and worthy of a FinaFantasy title and my 15$/month

Its going to happen. Just for the fact that they are bringing the story teller for CoP, to lead the story/quest development team. Bringing the man that gave us the visual/responsive quality of the "tactic orgre" UI.

Yah, I foresee a big REBOOT, REBUILD happening. And the LIVE FUN we will experience, because of this change will be epic. Because, it can't be less fun that what this game already is. And don't get me wrong, I have been playing this game non-stop hardcore, since early release, until the dev change was announced. And I just couldn't bring my self to play it with the same passion. So, until I see/hear what they are going to change and give us, I shall remain dormant. And, I really don't believe they are going to build off of the game mechanics that are here now. Or there would have been no need for a director change. New director=New direction.

Happy new Year everyone! Love you all.

This, would love to see everything on this list. I still like the idea of "make your own class" with the equip-able abilities, but would probably like more defined jobs better.

I think that there are a couple of ideas in XIV thats really good. Then they are mixed in with some strange stuff. I think it would be a mistake to throw it all away.
I really love that gatherers and crafters are full classes for example. Mix and match your own class. Easy class change.
"Optimal rank" is a bit disappointing but a necessity I think to not to have to carry 5 or more complete sets depending on what class I switch to.

Personally I think there are two potential ways they can change XIV that would be really bad.
Thats "Make yet another WoW-clone" or "Make it XI-2".
I do not know exactly how this new director ought to change this game, but I do have faith he will use his grey cells and wave his magic wand to make it so.

So I really really would like to hear him describing the road ahead without too many generalizations

Yes. I definitely agree, there is no need to touch crafting or gathering, as they are well beyond great. I'm lov'n it! But, this is not Farmville. And the priority should have been giving to the main questing/story line and the development of ones character, where choosing/using your battle class, and the fun factor in doing so was concerned. Having everyone running around as a "Red Mage" with a different weapon just sounds silly. I cry every time I think about how badly they botched the class design.

Even in another thread I was suggesting, if they took my suggestions to heart. That they take the "Alchemist" class and just make it the "Chemist" class, alla "Tactics", able to fight in battles(gun or dagger,) and able to support the party with all the potions/elixirs/phoenix downs, he/she crafted. It would be a hybrid battle/crafting class.

If I a simple minded person can envision such things, I have to wonder whats the problem at the SE FFXIV office. Because, for them, making a rich, pleasurable mmo should be the easiest thing for them to accomplish. Because they have the lore and rule set, they invented, at their fingertips. It boggles my mind.
