Unable to detect directx deviceFollow

I decided to reinstall and renew my subscription and completely start my character over (only lvl 10 physical) but I immediately ran into this error yet again which was a huge headache on my initial impression, I have 3 monitors with whatever game I'm playing full screen on the center.

Is there really still not a fix for this or did I just not find it?

I really don't want to play in windowed mode yet the client doesn't like it's full screen focus taken

lower graphic settings

my guess it's your gpu overheating.

I don't think it's that, my GPU is running 90f and this only happens when I click a window outside ff14's main window.

as for graphics settings, I'm playing on standard quality with no AA

It's not about overheating, the same thing happens to me. My wife and I both run the game on standard, no shadows, no AA, no physics, no footstep effects, and yet I constantly get an "unable to detect DirectX device" and she does not. Her computer is significantly worse than mine.

It is worth noting that SE has already had numerous crash problems with the 260.99 drivers (belonging to the Nvidia 200, 300, 400, and others), although rolling back the drivers (at least in my case) does nothing to improve the scenario.

There are numerous other forums that talk about this problem, none of which has helped. Most of them mention the same few fixes: turn down graphics, update/rollback drivers, tinker with other settings, but it is unlikely that any will actually work.

Like me, it seems that you will simply have to wait for a fix... assuming SE even realises that the "unable to detect DirectX device" issue is a relatively wide-spread one.

I can live with the fact you can't tab out of the screen, whatever. What I can't live with is spending 5 minutes in the adventurer's hub waiting for an npc to 'appear' on my screen so I can take a guildleve. is this seriously not fixed yet?

This happenes to me every time I get a windows update popup, either the directx will crash or the graphics will. I have had this happen with WoW too, so it's definately not a graphic issue. Always been a driver issue, have crossfirex graphics. I tend to lean towards a problem with windows. Both vista and 7 Ive seen this happen with.

I have this problem too, more specifically the nvlddmkm driver from directX stops and recovers but shuts down the game... I tried everything, but no avail. It's something with nvidia, windows, and high end games. I do notice that it only happens to me in gridania areas or occasionally Limsa (rare). I have no trouble in Ul'dah areas at all. So maybe if you started in gridania try a different area and save yourself some frustration.
