I just had a friend of mine who joined to play, however he prefers keyboard and mouse. If so, how does one go about setting it up? Or can someone direct me to a link I can give him on how to get it set up. Thanks in advance.

yes, no set up required. Create an SE account, an FFXIV account, set up payment options, install the game, and log in.

At the risk of sounding condescending, this is currently a PC-only game until the PS3 port. Why would you even consider the possibility that it wouldn't use a keyboard and mouse?

I use a control pad, always have. I didn't set up the game, my husband did. So I didn't know. I also used a control pad in XI, again my husband set it up, so again...did not know. Is that wrong of me to not know >.>;?

Not to sound... oh wait I'm going to be (just not to you)

Sadly many game companies have abandonded PC gamings greater customization abilities lately and have created tons of console to PC ports which completely suck with M&KB and clearly require a controller to play with minimal headaches.

A recent example would be SquareEnixs own Front Mission Evolved, I tried to play it M&KB but sadly find the controller to be more responsive. There are lots of other games in the last 5ish years that are even worse...

Camera angel tinkering + Keyboard & Mouse > Gamepad in targeting mobs, especially tiny little ones. Well I'm used to it anyway.

Yes, yes there is, and in many ways kb/m gives you an advantage over the controller, albeit with a steeper learning curve. I was recently forced to get acquainted with the kb/mouse controls when my wife broke her controller. I gave her my controller and struggled with her broken one, but slowly I started just using the keyboard and mouse instead. Since then I've found that it's quite helpful for handling adds and healing in a group. I couldn't play my conjurer nearly as well with a controller. I paid the price of admission, but overall I feel that switching to the keyboard and mouse was worth it.

TLDR: yes.
