PC Monitor and Chair or TV and Couch?Follow

I was just curious about the way everyone plays FFXIV.

Currently, I have my PC hooked up to my 52" LCD in my living room. I sit on my couch and keep a wireless keyboard on my lap. However, since I've been playing a lot more, I've been having a lot of back aches and I just cannot get comfortable on my couch while I play this game.

I think it may have to do with the way my body leans forward when I'm constantly typing/chatting with people in-game. Regardless, it has become very uncomfortable use the couch/TV set up.

So, I was thinking about dragging my PC back to my office room and using the desk and desk chair to avoid back aches and to have good posture while I type and whatnot. I'm also considering getting a 27" LCD monitor because my 22" seems so dinky now compared to the TV.

If the 360 chatpad actually worked on a wired 360 controller hooked up to the PC, I would jump on that in an instant. However, it does not. I'm also going to miss the awesome 5.1 surround sound if I move back to the office set up...but I do have headphones, so I guess it's not too bad.

How do you guys prefer to play? Sitting upright at a monitor, sitting on a recliner using the TV? Any suggestions on how to make a living room FFXIV set up a little more comfortable when constantly having to type? Maybe I'm just better off with a desk? Any discussion/suggestions are welcome!

Beanbag chair and 37" TV, but I also play from a normal chair on a pair of monitors occasionally.

I sit at my desk which has a reclining chair (not a living room furniture one, but a desk chair). My primary monitor is my 46" LCD TV, which has the game. My secondary monitor is a 19" LCD, which has vent/IRC/browser/etc.

I'm a console gamer at heart and not very sociable so I have my mouse & keyboard resting on a foot stall then I'm just lying back with a 360 controller. I imagine it would be pretty uncomfortable with M&KB though?

I sit in a pretty decent office chair and have 2 26" monitors. My back hurting wasn't an issue even when I played ffxi for hours on end. Mostly it was my right wrist. I got a nice gel keyboard rest and a mousepad with a raised gel insert in it and my wrists don't really bother me anymore.

I solved that problem by getting a pair of those Triton 5.1 headphones. Kind of expensive, but they are pretty nice and I can use them for my PS3 as well.

I have my primary PC hooked up to a 32" monitor that sits on my desk. I just recline on my chair with the keyboard at arms' reach while I play using a gamepad. I have a 46" TV across the room that I just run movies or TV shows on with my media PC while I play, and a couch near my desk if I feel like lounging and being antisocial. All I need to do in that case is spin my monitor around to face the couch while I lay on it.

For closed/open beta I played on 42" Sony and sat couch. With mouse and keyboard on a coffee table in front.
(This is mainly how I played XI for years)

I was in the process of building new computer for release in Sept, so come Sept 22 I had new computer finished along with a 27" LED LCD Monitor.

For time spent playing the game I find the computer and chair much more comfortable than the Couch/TV.
Also my TV was a 1080p TV and I used HDMI to connect, however, with the computer monitor and it being 1080p as well using HDMI. I feel I am getting a much better picture on that monitor. Both are LCDs, the Sony TV is a few years old and not LED whereas the computer monitor is brand new and is LED LCD.

Better picture and more comfortable has me sold.

I sit on my entertainment center with my 42" TV on my couch.

Seriously though, I sit in a computer chair stupid close to my 42" TV with an xbox gamepade and my keyboard and mouse on a table beside me. I also use the Astro A40 headset for sweet soundz. I guess if you had to describe my play setup in one word, it would have to be......Immersion.

I'm still using my good ol' Sennheiser HD55's from back in my competitive CS days. I should probably get a new headset since the mic stopped working a long time ago. Haven't decided on anything yet, but I'm probably gonna stick with Sennheiser.

Plus the biggest advantage of playing on my desk is that I can just hit the windows key and load up Bad Company 2 when I need a break from grinding. My chair is super comfortable anyway.

Haha, there is no other headset that can compare imho. If you can fork up the cash you wont have to worry about another headset for a LONG time and I wear them for up to 8 hours in a single stretch on some sessions and they are sooo comfortable. It seriously seems like the sound is coming from the room your in and not the headset itself. I'm not trying to brag its just that I highley recommend them to anyone wants a top of the line headset. ^_^/

I use these, they sound fantastic and are very comfy

After going through 3 logitech headsets in the same number of weeks, I'll never buy logitech anything again. I settled on the ones above after looking around for a quality pair that wouldn't break the bank.

I swap between my 3D laptop and 55" 3D LED TV (FFXIV plays great in 3D btw).
I prefer the laptop, its just more comfortable. but time to time when i really want to get going, I'll stand like 2 feet away from this huge 3D display and think i'm really in-game^^

This should be made into a Poll ;) For Me it's Desk, PC Desktop, LCD monitor (standard 5:4 one 19") and Comfortable chair + gamepad ^^

Connecting it to TV woulding really give me anything beside problems and we don't have and LCD TV in our house, probly wont have for long since there is no need for that and everything works with those CRT ones.

^this

I play at a desk when I'm at school but lately been playing on a couch. And since I read that thread about how to get your arrow keys to move the cammera i don't have a need for a mouse any more. So it's lay back and enjoy. I also got a sound system, but since we can't turn off the stupid ambient noice in the game or the crafting sounds....I listen to the radio when i play

if you continuously lurch around newegg.com usually some really good deals and i like their search filters.

i got this one for $600
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16834220794

reason was cheap is bcus it was a store display XD lol. not fantastic; but for $600 is about the same price as an okay laptop at any retail store. and definetly more reasonable then $800 plus i was looking to pay for a laptop to be able to play XIV brand new. downside is they don't really have a quality assurance; when i received it, it wouldn't charge (the power jack was loose). i sent it back and they replaced it though.

37 Inch Plasma, wireless 360 gamepad and a comfy couch. Soon I'll upgrade to a wireless keyboard next to me so I dont have to go over to the PC to type.

Shame too, because I bought the keyboard that clips into the 360 controller thinking Id be able to use it to type. Nope. Windows detects it fine, but the game doesn't support it.

Maybe there is some tweak for windows so it would work like a normal keyboard?

Yeah I own that as well. Shame it doesn't work. Would make life easier. Would be nice if they patched in support but I doubt it'll ever happen.

21" TouchScreen Monitor(FFXIV) + 19" Monitor (Web Browsing/Etc...)
Reclining Office Chair.

However I plan to change my setup soon to a L-shaped desk with a new LED tv for my FFXIV screen. THe extra room will allow me to get a new chair too, since my old one is a bit worn out (the seat isn't very cushony anymore) :(

42" HDTV + Ikea couch for XIV, with an laptop adjustable laptop table angled toward me on the right so I can play XI too if I please. If I start getting sore, I take a break for the WC, snacks, or just to do some moving around or quick stretches.

I play on a 46" LCD here, sitting or laying on a couch. When I spend weekends at my girlfriends place I have a monitor set up in my own little corner, and she bought me a really nice chair for my birthday, which just happened to coincide with FFXIV launch.

I prefer the monitor actually. I just need a nice little foot stool so I can relax my legs now.

My desk is a sliding top toy box. which also doubles/triples? up as a coffee table. I moved off my couch as the wireless keyboard/mouse were terrible I even went all out for a bluetooth keyboard and mouse with a huge range but this too kept cutting out, so now back to wires and the couch is too far away. I kneel with the toy box but im building a lan room/office in my cellar which hasnt got done at all since launch date :( ill end up with a monitor after deciding against hooking up a huge plasma

Do the big screens still suffer screen burn? I thought it was a thing of the past? I was looking at modern plasmas around the £1000 range dunno what that is in $$ but now ill cheap out on the telly and get a monitor for the games

Plasma screens still do. High-end LCD's are better anyway.
