Does anyone have an opinion on what they think is the easiest class to solo right now? I know this probably doesn't count for a whole lot since i'm foreseeing party play being the main focus with FFXIV's new lead, but i'm at a loss on which job to solo for the moment, just short-term. Also as a side question incase anyone has an opinion, if SE implements a job like BST in this game, what crafts do you think it will use for armor/weapon repair?

Every job can solo fairly well, but much of it is dependent on getting the better cross-class abilities for survival. Level Pugilist to at least 6 to get Second Wind also leveling Conjurer up enough to get Stoneskin, Cure, and Shock Spikes will go a long way in helping any class survive. Also, once you decide on what job you like, consider a crafting class to support that. Be it a blacksmith for making and repairing your weapons or a clothcraft/leatherworker/armorer to keep your body armor in tip-top condition.

While you are interested in solo play, many people are willing to join up on a couple of leves if you find yourself with only 30min-1hr to play around and just want to make a little progress. Also make sure you join up with random people for Behests which happen hourly at all the Aetheryte camps. It's great SP and you might make yourself some friends in the process or find a person who wants to stay to do a couple of guildleves.

As for best solo class, I really couldn't answer, I have a fairly easy time soloing on Pugilist but I also have a decent amount of cross class abilities and good gear so your mileage may vary. Don't get trapped into thinking you need to pick a class based on perceived solo abilties, with a small effort you can up your survivability on almost any classSmiley: schooled

Level pretty much every job to lv20 for skills, Marauder, Pugilist and Gladiator seem good for soloing.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Archer as a great solo class...I can one-shot kill when grinding from about r20-50 on Archer, and leves seem pretty easy to solo even when significantly below the recommended level.

Archer is a blast to level solo, you just have to be careful as lots of the WS are AOE.

Archers can also shoot through walls and around corners if you have target locked on the mob as well, which is nice for pulling, but can also be a killer when doing an aoe WS

Why do gnats drop rat tails and lemurs drop gnat wings?

Yes. Once you get to R20, archer will be the faster class to solo, since you easily OS some carefully chosen mobs(let's say....coblyns/doblyns ;)).

I'm a 34 archer, but I just started leveling conjuror, and that seems to me to be absolutely the easiest class to level. At level 10 I went to Skull Valley to do leves. The first one i chose two stars and got 746 SP per kill (with guardian's aspect). By the time I was done with the 3 leves I was rank 13 getting about 550 SP/kill. By the end of the day I was almost rank 17, and that was with a lot of wasted time running from Grid to Limsa, plus doing a lot of crafting.

Against wild mobs I can easily kill orange ones. And all this was with wearing just cotton crafting gear and not a speck of mage gear. This job is way, way easier to solo than was archer.

Seriously, leveling before level 30 shouldn't be considered as it's way longer after that range(maybe even from 40). And at that level, i don't think conj can take coblyns/doblyns as fast as can archer. But i'm not totally sure about that, so a maybe conjurer could tell us if they can chain mob without ever stopping, for whatever reason.

PS: Just remembered thatI duo-grind sometimes with a conj. friend, i'm the one doing all the work because he can't cast anything before i kill the mobs. Same with Pug, lancer, and obviously other jobs.

Honestly, with Siphon MP, any class can chain mob without ever stopping, especially Con.
