ZAM, are you serious?Follow

What is going on with this site? Maybe I'm confused, but I thought that the purpose of the ffxiv.zam.com was to cater useful information and other resources to loyal players who enjoy the game... so why do I keep returning to this site to find more and more troll-like questioning of the decisions of the dev team and the overall fate of the game right on the homepage?! I mean, seriously, are you that truly baffled that a dev team that has been listening to feed back would continue to put out surveys requesting more feed back? Questioning signs of a team's devotion to meeting players' demands is something I would expect only of a troll.

Beyond this, you don't seem to have a whole lot say about the news that actually matters, such as upcoming patches, the effects of previous patches, etc. This stuff seems to be left mostly up to the player. And the database is horrible. A ridiculous amount of recipes are still missing, optimal ranks for recipes are all jacked up, etc.

I'm typically not one to complain. It's more my style to just cut my losses and move on (which I intend to do right after this is posted). But I've been loyal to ZAM since before WoW ever released, back when it was just FFXI. For years, you guys were amazing. What happened to you?

Oh well. From here on, I am officially a YG guy. Goodbye ZAM.

ZAM is more or less a intermediary for communication between the player base (and prospective players) and the dev team at SE. It only makes sense that they would write editorials describing the various ways that differing members of the player base feel about SE's decisions.
That being said, it also brings more traffic, and as a site owned by a larger company, more traffic=less chance of being shut down.

Well since he's gone I'm sure a Mod or Admin wouldn't mind letting us know how long Demonics been lingering on the site...

Well if you know there are errors or missing items, provide screen shots or information to help make the site a better place.

So if you've been "loyal to ZAM", and you are complaining about the database, would you care to mention what you have done to help improve the database?

You just post one long ****** rant with no constructive commentary whatever, just a bunch of complaining, and part of your complaining is that you feel like everyone is complaining?

I don't follow the logic.

ZAM is probably the best forum about FFXIV discussion, because they don't forbid negative criticism unless it's flat out trolling. Can't say the same for some of the other FFXIV fan sites.

Only reason I ever came here was to get a few laughs here and there. Now it is rare to find even that!

I don't blame them completely though, FFXIV player base just lack personality in general. That's not saying much now, as that is pretty much describing every MMO board out there now.

Where is Internet 2.0? This one is getting moldy....

Indeed. At least this isn't like certain other forums that shall remain nameless who are more than happy to delete posts or ban users for no reason other than the admins/mods disagree with your opinion.

Whereas the admins around Zam will be the first to admit that they don't ban for stupid, even though I'm sure some of them would love to.

I dunno, there was a post about where to find all the coblyns the other day. Thats the only piece of information people need to know right now.

To give a slightly more serious answer, when a legit game discussion needs to happen, it does. Like the incapacitate thing with the new NMs. There just aren't enough things related in game to actually talk about. And then whats happening outside of the game is very interesting.

I didn't want to comment again on the editorials. I know it's Thayos's job to make thoughtful documentary of a game and it's not in a good shape. I just find it depressing that it seems to become the primary pastime to question and criticize every move they make.

It's as if Thayos isn't having a good time with the game at all, so it floods into his choice of topics.

There's plenty of other things to talk about, like the LS article previously written. There seems to be a lot of confusion as to Battle Regimines, as well as Notorious monsters. Or perhaps talking about the long term impacts of the current job system on how the players end up playing the game. ****, he could write a counter-acticle to his own call for an Auction House, and actually dive into what the Crafting/Retainer system could have or should have been.

It just seems like Thayos himself isn't diving into the game, but rather commenting on the surface topics. Yes, SE's survey was a big deal that caused mixed reactions. But I'd rather seem them pool the info than not to. It shows they're listening, and they're making priority choices depending highly on our input.

What I don't want to see, is that discussion be influenced by an article written by someone who supposed to represent the site. Those types of issues should be talked about neutrally, not editorialized, sorry Thayos but that was a topic that should have been just left to the forum members, IMO.

It's sad. I really hate being Critical of Thayos cause before FFXIV I loved his writing. I guess what I'm trying to say Thayos is get those levels up. Involve yourself in what's going in IN the game, not just at the game as a topic. Anyone who's not playing the game could have written that last editorial, what I would like is for you to start talking about the life within the game. The quirks, the gameplay, the classes, the community in game rather than out of it. I loved the linkshell article, lets see more of those and less of the typically "Really, SE?" commentary. It's already supersaturated on this board as is.

I don't play the game right now while I wait for an SP party fix (been waiting a while now!) so I don't feel like wasting my time

Plus YG does it better and looks nicer

The game itself is more of a topic than the content of the game. Until we know what direction its going...its hard to get too involved in the details.

Sorry not broken.

Just party play is **** right now, unengaging and lame.

Now if party play was tuned so we fought red mobs over longer periods instead of 293756321765913 coblyns which take 5 seconds to die each then maybe the party game would be entertaining.

So yes, SP is not broken. Party play is.

The players used to determine this information through experimentation, comparison, and data mining. Look at how much players learned about FFXI without SE ever releasing information about core game mechanics. Instead of compiling information, writing down crafting recipes, collecting harvesting "sweet spots", etc. the front page is filled with drama threads.

There's plenty of game-related stuff to talk about. For one reason or another the community would rather talk about drama though. I admit I've gotten caught up in it as well. I'm not perfect.

The YG FFXIV forums seem pretty inactive. There are RMT ads just sitting there.

I think you want FFXIVCore.com. They're much more committed to fanboyism.

So I go over to YG to see this amazing forum and what his commotion is all around and I get there and I see that the latest three posts were by DemonicWisdom (out of his total of 4), then there is no other activity at all.

Yep no people = no trolls.. But wait there are probably a handful of people, and look some troll/quit/rant posts too! Maybe the proportions are smaller there! Lets jump ship everyone! lol..

Well the item database is ok, but ZAM's recipes is mostly all I need, there really isn't much content for us to get excited and contribute about.

Dear O.P. These are the General Discussion Forums. If you would like rank-specific information without threads that meander off topic, I suggest you visit those forums. In the General Discussion Forums, most things are fair game. A discussion tends to include two side of a story, and asking questions that bring about more discussion. Deal with it. ^^b

Our database grows and expands from comments by our users on a given item/mob/quest/recipe/etc loaded from our devs, which is substantial and you guys are extremely appreciated. Other than that, it's what Pikko, Wint, Vlor, Thayos and I scour personally from our in-game experiences. I see you have contributed precisely.... nothing. But feel free to ***** and insult our work, by all means.

You guys do great work and I especially enjoy op-ed pieces. I don't contribute beyond in the forums, I'll be the first to admit that.

I'm sure you know, but a competing site has a program that *they claim* is kosher per SE's ToS that sniffs network packets and automatically reports NPC location, item location, vendor prices, and even bazaars back to their site, and their database is constructed automatically. Unfortunately, no manually built community can keep up with that type and volume of information.

However, what a program can't do is precisely what the community here at ZAM is doing... editorializing, theorycrafting, and sharing testimonials.

I do agree with tyler to an extent, although certainly not with the way he said it - a community-built database for NPC/item/mob info simply can't compete with one that is automatically generated by players doing their normal game playing.

Thank you, you are very accomodating at Zam

I apologize but YG's database is better, I guess they have more contributors?

I'm unsure how it works over there but you might be able to tell us due to any RND you've done

EDIT: Explained above! Automatic vs manual. Eeep.
