Today when i hit r16 whith my THM i got Stygian Spikes.
This must be the ultimate tool for soloing.
I never run out of mp.
I tried to equip it on my main, Mrd r25 and was i surprised? I could use alot of cure 2 and never run out of mp. It replenshied all the time and i could have stygian spikes upp all time.
This is great when u are soloing.
A good day indeed^^

Once you hit r20, you won't even put stygian spikes on your bar anymore. Siphon MP is the be all end all for mp moves. It works on nearly every mob, and siphons about 100 per enemy when dead. Factor in that you can cast it as aoe, and i can fill up over half of my mp bar with 1 cast. I hardly ever use transcendence anymore either. MP conservation is a joke in this game.

I agree with this... and not only for mage classes.
A pug or archer (or any melee for that matter) with Sacrifice II + Siphon MP.. u can kill things nonstop.
Pro+Shock SPikes+ Sac 2... engage with regen in effect.. kill mob Siphon MP. Rinse and repeat..

I agree, Siphon MP + Tranquility or Exaltation and I hardly ever run out of mp. This will allow you to use shock spikes and stun the enemy rather than worry about mp with stygian spikes :) As a solo Con/Thm stunning the enemy constantly with spikes is very important to an easy battle. Sometimes I just AOE siphon mp a bunch of random mobs to fill my bar up then run away and they go back to territory before i take much damage.

That being said I remember getting stygian spikes and thinking the same thing, but it gets better ;)

Styg Spikes is better for soloing on mele than Siphon MP is. It returns more MP than siphon if you are getting hit frequently.

On Mage classes, siphon is better because you won't be getting hit.

Very good skills indeed.

That's somewhat debateable because you can't use stygian spikes and shock spikes at the same time. I'd rather have shock spikes to stun, and siphon MP to regain MP because it will normally fill up all the MP you've used between cool down. I only say this because of the cost of spells is so low.

MP conservation only becomes an issue when your fighting NM's later in the game. I know my LS when fighting NM's has a Secondary group out pulling and killing mobs right next to our mages so they can Siphon MP off the dead mobs(PlanB FTW!!)

They both have their place. For me, I tend to rely more on Siphon MP to recover mana rather than Stygian Spikes partly because I prefer Shock Spikes and partly because it returns a fair amount for a low cost. Using both together is a great way to maximise MP gains if you're finding yourself drained a lot, though I can't think of many circumstances where the benefits of it outweigh other skill combinations.

Not without merit, but you'll certainly find Siphon MP far more useful once your Thaumaturge reaches rank twenty.

You can cast Absorb MP after the mob is dead, and it in fact gives more MP than if it were alive anyway.
I just hit F1 to target myselft after battle then hit enter, then siphon MP and hit TAB until dead mob is targeted.

I meant the spikes, but soon as I get siphon I'll try that out. Thanks.

Personally, I <3 Shock Spikes and Siphon MP over Stygian.
