I've got my main up in the mid 30's and a lot of my crafting up. I'm still having fun, but I have recently been gitting the bug to just explore. Cortheas is amazing, any of you found the super never ending waterfall yet? Ishguard? The empty Logging settlement? I just started exploring Mor Dhona (scary place)...

What cool things have you found that people aren't really talking about? Pics would be awesome

At The black shroud, just southwest of Sorrel Haven aethereal node, there is a small island surrounded by a shallow river, with a gigantic oak tree in the center that glows faintly green. I found that one to be pretty neat.

I'm about to start the game in a few days, and my main interest is also exploring the world. I don't mind dying due to unexpected aggro or stumbling upon a nasty new creature when I get to see so many new things, new worlds. In fact, it's these moments that keep me wanting to come back for more! Is there any server in particular that has Linkshells dedicated to exploring, leveling, and having fun together? I'm really not into the End-game/grind/monotonous race to Rank50. Right now, my top choice is Besaid server, said it's somewhat focused into RP'ing. But, that said, I'm open to suggestions!

I forget where I was now, somewhere in Gridania I think... maybe near where the Molboro is.

Anyway there's a big platform that appears to be an Airship dock and I can easily imagine a Chocobo stable at the bottom of the ramp. It's just wierd because it's more or less in the middle of nowhere... Of course I had to walk to the top and craft a bit under the stars.

Somewhat north of Camp Tranquil in Black Shroud and north of Camp Glory in Coerthas, there are caves where you "Cannot proceed any further" with appropriate NPCs saying that they don't want you down there.

If you're willing to watch this movie, you can see the Coerthas one I'm talking about, but maybe those areas might be future extensions into expansion areas?

Back at R15, I ran somewhere with a view of a castle surrounded by cliffs and a long bridge leading to it, with two guards and a closed gate saying I couldn't go there. The castle looked pretty too.

That would be the nation of Ishgard.

Ooo, awesome.

I think I'll start exploring again once I get my CON and THM to R20 to take a little break before grinding my ARC to 50.

Either expansions or patches, yes. One of them for sure is an area underneath most of Thanalan that has many entrances, and they showed screenshots of it prior to release.

One that I personally went to (but forgot to properly document) in the NW of Coerthas has an NPC that mentions that access to "the aery" is restricted. Since Coerthas and Ishgard seem to deal heavily with dragons, I'd imagine that's the type of aery it's referring to.

What we gotta do is get some locations on these spots and maybe tips on how to get there. I wanna go exploring now and see those sights! Smiley: nod

One of the first things I did in beta was find Ishgard. I can't wait till they open it. Coerthas as a whole blew me away. Easily my favorite music in the game.

I actually made myself stop with all the exploring, at leas for right now. I did tons of exploring r12 lancer exploring everywhere was quite exciting. Coerthas was really cool, I heckled the guards at Ishgard in hopes that they would let me in. Didn't work, so I then tried to figure if there was any other way to get there. Unfortunately, I don't have an airship or a flying gold chocobo. They keep me out of Ishgard, for now -_-;;

Mor Dhona was a place that had my nerves quite frayed, I grudgingly admit. Being an inexperienced lancer in place like that is quite an experience. I started at the south and then worked my way to the north, to get to Coerthas. I don't know how I never got attacked. Had to go through this some really narrow passages in a canyon like area. I had to sneak behind an Evil Eye or Smolenkos(can't remember which) I was so close to it that I was worried my tail might bump into it. Later, I went back to try to find a way to the place where that dead dragon was at. It looked dead from what I could see, that is. Wasn't able to get to it though >_>

I've explored a good bit of Thanalan, but not all yet. I've seen the least of Black Shroud, even though I am from there. It is rather difficult to get past the creatures that will one hit kill you in the narrow passages in Black Shroud.

Sometime soon I plan on doing more exploring. Just got kind of burnt out after finding a lot of places where I run into the invisible was saying I can't get to that area. Also with finding the question marks in Mor Dhona. Those always annoyed me in FFXI lol.

I don't know if anything like this was ever posted, but this is one of my favorite shots of the giant crashed airship and the dragon coiled about it. It's in the opening movie. This can be found in the center of Mor Dhona:

And a shot from the shore, looking north.

This talk of caves reminded me of two areas I found in thanalan that are blocked by NPCs or doors. One was in the same mesa cave as a camp of wandering ala Mhigans, somewhere in lower eastern thanalan I think. The other was a mysterious cave that was almost invisible, also in eastern thanalan, lower area before you reach a metric crapton of drakes and other nasties. If you see a bunch of things that look like large anthills, check the area. At least two of them actually have holes in the sides of them that you can enter down into a cave with an NPC blocking it off. I suspect we might have an antica infestation or something here... It also had a greenish-yellow haze, as if filled with some gas.

Should've taken a picture, but I think it was somewhere around the area of (45, 30), a bit NW of Sandgate.

k so last night i decided to finally check out Mor Dhona because i wanted to see the big dragon (bahamut?) and spaceship statue. So its late. Like 4:30am. And i had just smoked some pretty excellent grass, so keep that in mind. And it was night ingame. Keep all that in mind.

So i zone in. First thing i notice is the music which is creepy, foreboding, soaked in evil, and perfect. So im walking around, figuring i'll look for a high vantage point somewhere closer to the middle of the map so i can get a good look at this little dragon/ship tower. And its dark. Really dark. So dark that i almost run right into a giant Basilisk and five of his friends. And it creeped me out. Those big freaking lizards scare the sh*t out of me. Its the legs i think. Something about them makes me think of little slimy bugs crawling on me.

So i'm getting ready to dodge aggro from a ton of these giant black creepy crawlies and i glance up. And there, hanging over me, LOOMING over me, covering the dark blue sky with its pitch black wings is the effing dragon. And its huge. Monstrous. Twisted, blackened and radiating evil or darkness or something bad. Way bigger than I ever imagined. Giant. Like really really really big. Getting the picture?

I want to go inside that tower. I wanna explore the **** out of it. That place creeps me the **** out and i love it. And that short 5 minute experience was kind of almost terrifying. That tower is just so **** ominous at night. Maybe in day too idk.

In that moment i would have signed my soul over to this game. Just in that moment though. SE, please do more stuff like this. And get us in that tower asap.

A couple friends and I have explored most of the interesting looking areas, barring a few that have too many velociraptors and guivres and such.

Some pretty views, some interesting abandon buildings, and some other spots that look a little out of place... My favorite is prolly the one clearing up on a cliff with a big giant oak tree... Sooo looks like there should be something there, but just death. It's somewhere in coerthas, but I forget where exactly.

Idk, some nice spots, but overall not as much to explore as I'd like there to be.

How did you get there? I can't seem to figure it out. There's a cave that seems like it'd lead there but even in beta it was full of toads, bats and bombs.

I can confirm this, that is the cave that leads there, I took a party of two LS mates with me, and the cave ends just south of Wyrmking's Peak.

When I first saw the dragon tower in Mor Dhona I geeked. Thanks for the picks. Rate Up.

In that same zone they have some weird weather effects. At times it looked like you were surrounded by reddish colored oils in water. The pictures won't do it any justice, but take a look:

Wow, those are some nice pictures and I'd thought I've seen alot. Maybe we should have a thread to post pics of nice 'tourist' locations in ff14.
