If you look closely in the chat log in the beginning of the video it says "You throw a firecracker at the Star Marmot."

I agree 100%. I was really disappointed at how every looked basically the same for pugilist. Thing is though, with how the game works (zerg the mob!!) it would be inefficient to give the game any cool animations because it would take time away from slamming that 1 button/key over and over again.

Somewhat bitter jest aside, again I say I completely agree. For a game with graphics such as these they sure are mundane and unimpressive.

I have no problems with the combat animations as they are, but i would like to see more variety. Yes, more shiny effects would be nice, but int erms of animation, the mocap works great.

The problem however, is with the implementation. There are still weird problems with timing and there are no transitional keyframes; if you are even moderately spamming weaponskills, the animation of the first will be jarringly cut off by the next animation. Instead of resetting the character model to the basic combat pose before each weaponskill, the game needs to provide some frames of transitional motion. It doesn't have to be much, and given that there aren't a whole lot of weaponskill animations per class, it wouldn't be that difficult to implement.

If they allowed for 1-2 queued attacks, there wouldn't be any cut off in animations. I wouldn't mind if they made it so Floating eyes absolutely rape anything when they are split apart across some distance spamming their unblockable/100% accurate/+50% damage ranged attacks on you. Makes some leves nothing short of a pain in the ***.

Even laid back Spanish pop doesn't make XI skills look anything less than cool. =D

Come on SE we're grown ups with credit cards we can handle a few Sephiroth worthy meteorite attacks! Fire crackers are for kids, XIV is not. You put whores in it!

Ill add my 2 cents. And sorry but I'm highly dissapointed and this is why. I was playing my MMOs on an old lap top and it was slow and drab looking but I still made due. I put together this super computer for ffxiv. And yes compared to my laptop its a super computer. So the envorinments in ffxiv look great but thats where it ends. When I put ffxiv on pause and went back to my other MMOs, OMG what a differece. Everything glowed and sparkled and was shiney, projectiles showed correctly and I just KNEW that ffxiv would take advantage of the grapics card for more then the environment. So far, I've seen a ow glowing shield and staff......thats it..... and yeah I know its not an FF style to have glowy/animated armor/weapons/projectiles but damit it should. Me personally it draws me back to those MMOs all the time.

I would like to see them fix the animation timings first. Half the time my killing blow spell doesn't even play the animation instead playing what looks like a failed spellcast. When I look in my combat log however I see I have successfully cast the spell and have done quite a bit of damage killing the mob.

Yeah, I'd like that, too. I have weird cast-bar lag, I have the wrong ability name appear sometimes, I have my character interrupting his own actions to start new actions... all together it looks pretty odd.

Also, a Pugulist using a few Heavy Strike in a row looks too glitchy, like a full-haste Monk in Hundred Fists with the framerate doubled. XD

Those animations are horrible. No excuse for animations to fail that much. This game is beautiful but the animations for magic and WSs suck balls...

Some of the weapon skill animations are decent, but magic really needs to be redone from scratch...all spell animations look like they came from the last century...even worse...

I still don't get how SE and a FF dev team can ignore something like "spell animations" that much, when they were always the cherry on top of the ice cream in all other FFs.

I always thought they looked pretty weak on FFXI already, but FFXIV is topping that easily...cause there is almost no effect at all.

It's starting to sound like people are mixing up animations with effects.

I wouldn't say XIV's animations don't look good for the most part. The problem is that they're always out of sync and there's no proper transition animations.

It doesn't matter what they were like in FF games prior to XI, as they weren't online games which you have to take more into consideration than you do with an offline game.

Though looking weak in XI is weird since their effects looked far more eye pleasing and "logical" than the majority of MMOs the last decade.

hmmm really? Somehow I think is more logical that if I just hit you with a fire spell that you'd still be on fire after my casting timer was up, or covered in frost after blizzard, or soaked after water, or covered in dirt after earth, etc....
