Due to the manner that XIV launched, maybe the game would fair best if they went B2P versus P2P or F2P. Look at their sales of offline FF titles versus the mmo. They all sale from 2-10 million boxes. While XI only peaked at 2mil and this game shipped 600k at launch. What does that convey to me? It says that FF has a huge playerbase, but most don't like paying a subscription fee. If they choose to stick with P2P, many will have different opinions what constitutes worthy of P2P. To me a full expansion and more party encouragement would seal the deal. But I can't speak for others.

I'd look at it as most players would prefer a game they can pick up, play by themselves on their own time, put down when they want, and beat in 40-60 hours, which is an idea that doesn't really lend itself to MMORPGs. That's just my interpretation though.

Personally, I'd just prefer a game I could play. I'm glad they're not charging yet since I still can't totally get to grips with it. I know SE have gone downhill with FF games since Hironobu Sakaguchi left, and let's face it Bioware seem to be leading in rpgs nowadays, but I've been an FF fan since I was young and there's a key feature in every FF game... it's something simple... helps you figure things out quickly and without confusion... THAT'S RIGHT, you guessed it: a tutorial!!

I don't understand why something so important and present in most every other Final Fantasy game out there was so absent from this game! I had a lot of high hopes for this game, even after the mess I feel they made of their last FF MMO (long time MMO player talking here - City of Heroes, EVE, D&D and now DC Universe), and while I can't get over how it all looks and the sheer potential that's there, its so **** hard to tap... which is unfortunate.

Just my opinion tho I guess.
