The irony here is that people are complaining about the lack of communication between players and devs when that was one of the answers to the question "What would you like to see more of?" in the players poll.
These people looking for an update, I think SE has made it abundantly clear that any hope for a major game fixing update will be coming later this year when the game is "reborn" on the PS3. To expect anything less just seems unrealistic. There's just no point in clamoring for a major update in January because it's not going to happen (I'll personally eat my words if I'm wrong here).
As for the devs, if they have read and understood the documentation for FFXIV within two months and are ready to start working on it, that will be nothing short of a miracle. Modern games, especially MMOs, are amazingly complex with several different departments that have to work in sync with each other for everything to come together correctly. Several key staff members have been replaced in these departments and they're having to start from the beginning and work their way to where FFXIV is now, then develop a strategy for moving forward, then implement it. All that takes a lot of time.
That's why I don't expect much other than small bug fixes until later this year (maybe March, who knows). FFXIV is in a state of repair right now and recovery will take months. No amount of bickering is going to speed that up, especially if they change things up completely.
Why do people think the Lodestone has anything to do with the devs? The lodestone is most likely handled by a combo of Marketing and Public Relations, going through the localization department of whatever language it's published in. I just can't see why the dev team would have anything to do with the Lodestone site.
Finally, I hope they do not publish the results of the poll. There's enough finger pointing going on already, can you imagine the outrage on the forums if it was shown Auction House was not elected the #1 top priority? Then you'd not only have white knight / naysayer arguments but on top of that auction house / anything else arguments. The forums at that point could become moot because anything could be turned into a platform for people to use for or against just about any topic to argue about why they didn't get what they wanted. I come to the forums for discussion on how the game works and plays, not to read soapbox rants from people who didn't get a game completely customized to their idea of the best MMO. Save that for your Livejournal.
