I was reading my roommates game informer and it said that Square is losing too much money from FF14 and that the PS3 version is going to be delayed indefinitely. Anyone know anything about this?
Is this true? I really wanted to play and don't have the funds to build a PC around it so the PS3 version was my only hope.

But that doesn't mean that it won't come out on the PS3 in the future?

Being a big chunk of their market, SE will make sure that the PS3 launch doesnt have to face the same criticism and lack of success that the PC launch had.

I would expect PS3 launch to happen around the same time that they start charging us monthly fee, that being when the game is acceptable to their standards.

Unless SE makes big improvements in the game and can recapture some market share. This game might never see the life of day on PS3.

Keep in mind most of the work on the PS3 port was finished by PC release day, and would have been finished completely if not for Microsoft refusing to allow cross-platform gaming on Xbox Live. That being said, the PS3 release will occur when they feel the game is doing well enough to warrant the production and marketing costs of it. Going to be a bit difficult to find a way to overcome some of the negative reviews the game has faced, however one of the major reviews (PCGamer's) is already considered plagiarism (and some say the writer never even played the game at all) by the journalistic community.

Plagiarism? who considers it that? What writers say he never played it? the PCGamer review while harsh sounding was SPOT ON and while they gave it one of the lowest scores FFXIV recieved every other review said the same things

with all character data available for anyone to view, anyone can do some half baked research and find out that many of these reviewers did not play the game beyond a few ranks

/sarcasm

I heard several of the reviewers got lost on the way from Limsa to first camp and went insane roaming the fields of LL for literally minutes, only a handful made it back and still dont speak about it till this day.

That is the REAL reason the game had such bad reviews.

Which is exactly why it was plagiarized. He took other reviewer's and forum posters' words and did not give them credit. I even found some of the exact sentences the author used in forums posts from weeks before.

Definition of plagiarism- a piece of writing that has been copied from someone else and is presented as being your own work

...So wait, do tell me, if you'd be so kind. What exactly is the difference between doing leves and grinding at level 1 and doing leves and grinding at level 50?

Acting like it's some ridiculous conspiracy that FFXIV got UNFAIR REVIEWS is the most absurd thing I've seen all week.

Expect the PS3 launch to release when the first expansion comes out, imo.

Postponed indefinitely just means that there is currently no planned release date. I'm pretty confident it will be out eventually. That could mean April or July or September or who knows.

Speaking as someone who has played since Beta 3... having the game delayed is not a BAD thing. It is a GOOD thing. I wish that the PC version had been delayed and I'm not alone in that regard.

Being in the early stages of Beta, I agree. I wish it was postponed, I feel like the game could have been much more successful. =[

The only reason that this game is as bad as it is is because of PS3 limitations. Really people. Not trolling.

The PS3 doesnt have enough buttons on the controller to format all the things needed, and also add a jump button in there.

There is so many things more, but its time for work, got to go.

The PS3 release is their only shot at a successful game. Given the awful reviews about the PC release, it's already an uphill battle. They need to 1. ensure people will buy the game on release day and 2. keep their subscriptions active, but as challenging as step 2 is, it's really step 1 that they need to worry about. Any serious gamer or FF fan, MMO vet or not, has already heard about how disappointing FFXIV is on the PC. They're not going to drop $60 on FFXIV for the PS3 unless they can be reasonable sure it's been fixed, and that means, above all things, that time needs to be taken. Time for players, and reviewers, to forget the disastrous launch. Enough time so buyers can feel confident SE could have pulled off significant fixes. Time for developers to actually make those changes.

They'll delay the PS3 release as long as possible, and that's a good thing.

^ this. How much better would reviews have been if it had released as it is now instead of the mess it was? Not that it's spectacular now but at least it's functional.

Uh the PS3 version will be just fine.

A large majority of players (as in just about everyone i've talked to) uses a controller for FFXIV because well, it's made for a controller.

The PS3 version was delayed they said because it had performance issues because of the limited ram, which iirc is 256mb, and 256mb video ram.

The limited ram meant a lot of the game had to be stored server side instead of client side, which does two things: It creates lag, and it prevents certain cheating methods.

They said last year that the PS3 version was complete and was in its final testing phases, then a week or two later was delayed indefinitely, which means either they flat out lied about it (Unlikely for them), or they played it and said "We can't release this crap if we want to save this game" (Likely).

The game -may- never come out, like Age of Conans 360 version. However SE realizes the PS3 version is a golden opportunity that most MMOs never have - a global relaunch, and one people are already expecting, anticipating, and ready for. If they do it wrong the game is dead, the community that is in-game right now will never expand to numbers the players want from this point (going by global MMO history, once a population drops to the levels they are now its usually over).

Hex, I am not saying the game did not deserve bad reviews at launch day. It obviously earned those. I am saying that the guy who wrote the PCGamer article stole his writing from other sources, which in the journalistic community is grounds for firing and, in some extreme cases, lawsuits. Plagiarism is simply the act of stealing written, verbal, or audio work from others without giving them proper credit or asking them for permission. Stop making this into some kind of "Did the game deserve bad reviews" thread. Just like all MMOs, it did at launch day, and no one will try to argue different.
Some may argue that you should wait half a year to review a MMO, but that's a different thing entirely.
