For those who haven't played older mmos, the trinity is healer, tank, dps.

Maybe I'm old school, but I absolutely love this style of gameplay. Now don't get me wrong, I think it's great that we can solo. Nothing is worse than LFG all day, or for the more active party forming types, looking for a tank. I do very much miss the old delegation style of grouping though.

In beta I was a gladiator because I really thought It'd be awesome to be a tank.. they were barely used however and it didn't feel worth the effort to level a lower damage class. I didn't learn my lesson and decided to level tham and conj for retail to be a healer. With all the AoE heal spamming and class combos, this felt kinda pointless as well.

Now I've rerolled a new character and have been leveling strictly DoW dps classes like archer and pug. It's much more enjoyable, but where the party at dawg?

I was told grouping is more necessary later on for constant SP flow, but it seems it's still a zergfest. Does the trinity ever make a solid return at any point or does it just stay zergling? What style of grinding do you prefer?
I've only gotten to R20 on my classes so I'm mainly looking for some insight from higher R30+ players.

Thanks :)

It's a zerg all the way. My wife and I played as a duo for a little while on various classes around 20 and we stopped playing once we found out that we could duo "Party difficulty" leves in less than five minutes using only the default attack option -- no healing, no survivability skills, no buffs, no TP: just spamming "1" over and over again. It actually started working better than when we would try to devise a rudimentary plan, as being more reckless caused us not to bother healing at 50%-or-less HP, thereby increasing kill speed.

I have never seen anyone partying, even when I wandered to much higher-ranked camps for fun (which grew tiresome because there wasn't really anything different about them; some of the NPCs tended to have the same dialogue anyway). However, there is certainly some loosely-defined party structure for the rank 50 NM leves, as those cannot be completed alone, but even they last only a few minutes.

I think that leveling and leves in general are simply too easy to warrant parties, or at least to warrant bothering to form any; in short, you had better get used to that purple goo, zergling.

to me its more of a "quad" support roles are in almost every game now where they do support stuff almost exclusively. I miss the old style myself, but i miss MMO's actually meaning MMOs and not single player games with chat boxes. After WoWs success every MMO developer and their grandmothers wanted that money, so now all we get are themepark quest hub solo fests. I cant even name an MMO in the past 5 years or even coming up that put an emphasis on party play (unless its just endgame raids).
