I am wearing a pair of gloves right now that is way above my level for crafting, I couldn't find any my level. I was curious though, does anyone know by how much those stats are reduced? If anyone is curious, it's the Canvas Shortgloves. Thank you in advance! :)

There's not much info on how much you would lose, but you can calculate yourself by equipping just the gloves and a tool at your optimal level, then look at your attribute window and work out how much does it give.

A lot. I wish people would stop doing it.

well if you are withiin 5 levels the base stats of the item aren't cut too bad. BUT, if you equip a piece of gear over your level, you won't have access to the added bonuses that piece offers. For example Craftsmanship +5, you wouldn't get that bonus. I can't confirm this but have seen it on the threads.

At no point in your rambling, incoherent response were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul

As far as actual numbers, there was a post floating around here somewhere...

I just wish the penalty was incorporated and shown on the gear's stats (relative to your level) rather than your stats (after it's equipped).

For the OP, as suggested, check to see how much craftsmanship/m.craftsmanship/control you are actually gaining compared to similar rank gloves and make a judgement call. For the most part you wont notice any drawbacks.

I'm about to start up some Alchemy and Archery. I already carry around 5 sets of gear, I'm not going to go out and buy r1 crafting gear and r1 Archery gear. My apologies to all of you I offend for running around in my r20-30 gear as an r1 Archer.

As others have helpfully replied, the best way to find out is to equip the item in question and check yourself. To do this I normally compare the item my rank vs. the higher ranked item, but I have also had the "can't find the one my rank!" problem. I started wearing the r26 boots on my crafter at r16-ish, 'cause I couldn't find the ones my level. But on the plus side, I'm r28 and still haven't had to buy new crafting boots! lol.

In my opinion it is really not so bad if the rank difference isn't too big. For example, when I equip r39 toadskin leggings on my r31 mage, the stats I get are not notably better than when I equip the r29 leather leggings -- but nor are they worse. So while I am not getting the full stats, the reduced stats are still comparable to something rank appropriate. This is just my experience though.
