You must have very low standards for a MMO

Copy pasted anything doesn't really bother me half as much as a game being craptacular.

If I had a choice between a so-called "copy pasted game" that did all the important things like content, gameplay, UI and overall functionability right and another game that was completely different that sucked monkey balls, well...

Lemme just break it down this way. You can call a square wheel "different" and say it's "reinventing the wheel" all you please, but in the end, I'd rather have that new wheel that's round like my old wheel was, because I know once I put it on my car it will work and work well.

If you're really trying to find a decent F2P game (aside from private servers, which I will not point you to), try DDO.

I'll check in on FFXIV at the end of 2011 to see if SE has finally decided on the community for which they're developing this game; the group-oriented gaming community, or the solo gaming community. If it's the former, I'll be playing for years to come. If it's the latter, I'll probably lose interest within a month or so.

I have unlimited patience. They can take 20 years to make the game perfect. And when that time comes, I'll renew. Until then, I'll wait patiently for them to fix things.

It's not about wanting things asap or any such thing. It's about paying for a product. This is a game, plain and simple. When it is set to play, I'll play.

I chose "Virtually none. I need to see a plan and a time-line by the end of the month or I'm out."

But Actually that's not my perspective at this moment, that will be my perspective the very moment the decide to charge for the game, right now it's free to play so I'm just kicking it in a chair sipping on green tea and watching them work, if I like what I see, it's time to jump in, otherwise I will keep doing other things.

That being said I just created a new character few days ago, I'm surprisingly finding the game more fun now (specially considering that I became rank 10 in less than 30 minutes) but the UI speed and leve rewards are at least more motivating than before, I will keep going for a couple of weeks and see what happens, if this turns to be any good I will make a topic and see if there is other people with similar experiences.

The moment I start paying monthly fees is the moment when my standards and patience will increase 10-fold. So far I'm really only out $70 that I spent 4 months ago. In my opinion, even with the current state of the game, I feel that I've gotten my money's worth from all of these free bonus months. They can take as long as they want to fix XIV up, but the state of the game the first month they start charging me monthly fees is going to be when I'm going to say "it needs to be of X quality or I'm cancelling my subscription".

I'm not a MMO fan, I'm a Final Fantasy fan, so I won't be playing Rift, Tera, WoW or any of that.

I wane back and forth between having little patience and letting SE take as long as they want.

I haven't logged in since Jan. 1st and feel no reason to play the game right now...but it's currently "free" so I'm sticking around.

The longer I wait the greater my expectations...but I know a more complete game will take a long time to make.

It's like I'm hoping for a miracle patch though my brain can't comprehend that this game has been in development for 5+ years and almost 6 months into release and the game I'm expecting won't exist for at least 6 more months, if ever.

What I should do, and probably what most of us in my position should do, is totally erase FFXIV from our memories and come back a year from now.

In the meantime there's nothing I really want to play MMO-wise. GW2 is looking good, albeit overhyped. I'll probably settle into a single player game, as I'm currently looking forward to L.A. Noire.

Patience? Hmmm... I guess that depends on which angle I view the question from. I haven't played the game in nearly two months and I'm about to cancel my account (for fear of getting unknowingly billed when SE finally decides to charge), so I guess you could say I no longer have patience for the game in its current state. The only reason I hadn't cancelled sooner is because the account is currently free.

On the other hand, I plan to check back every 6 months to ascertain whether or not the game is worth playing, at which point I may come back if I'm satisfied with the game's progress. My levels aren't yet high enough to make me refuse to start over if my characters are no longer recoverable when I check back. With that said, I guess I could say my patience is quasi-infinite.

It's all about context. :)

I really hope they can get this game together and make it a long lasting success, but I believe it will take them a good 6-12 months to do it if they can do it at all. That's too long for me, already purchased Rift. Sure, it's derivative but everything I can tell about it, it's polished and pretty much ready for release. I figure it ought to be entertaining for 6-12 months before starting to feel stale, which is just about how long I figure it will take for S-E to turn FFXIV around.
I'll still keep up on the changes to this new FF, hoping for the best, maybe even logging in from time to time as long as it remains f2p.

6-12 months from now is when it will really matter. By then GW2 should hopefully be in beta if not released, and that's enough time for major improvements to FFXIV to get done. SW: The Old Franchise and TERA don't look promising to me, and I'd really prefer coming back to a revised, newly excellent FFXIV than anything else.

So, to put it in the worst way possible, Rift is methadone maintenance until I settle on a new dealer and start mainlining GW2 or a new, improved FFXIV. Smiley: eek

yes the similarities to WoW are pretty bothersome in Rift. But at least its a fun game. And the Soul system is, in a lot of ways, a much better version of what XIV was trying to do with the armoury system. Sorry, it's true.

Also, the rift invasion game mechanic is "part of a larger toolset " according to Trion, which we will no doubt see more of in the future, including things "we've never seen before in an MMO". I have a feeling Trion is going to go ******* with dynamic content.

Sorry hymenman, its a good game. it's weird that you are bothered by that.

i just wish it had a controller interface.

A fair amount. Just keep me updated with changes over the next 6-12 months and I'm happy.

This was my choice, because it was closest to how I feel.

My perfect choice would have read, "A fair amount. Just keep me updated with the development team's plans, establish a timetable, follow through on promises and I'm happy."

I have no intention of leaving the game, because SE said it would be free until it's in a condition they deem to be satisfactory. As long as it's free, and as long as I already own the software, why quit? That, and it's Final Fantasy. I'm not really much of a MMO person... I'm more a fan of the Final Fantasy franchise, which is why I started playing FFXI to begin with.

I also have faith that Yoshida knows what needs to be done, and that he'll surround himself with the people to do the job. Clearly though this turnaround will take longer than many of us first anticipated. But as long as the dev team communicates with us every step of the way, then I'm perfectly fine waiting for the game to get fixed.

For me, I'm not sticking around in game waiting so in that sense I have no patience for SE. I really don't care anymore until I start seeing results. But I'm not writing the game off either, it's not dead or unfixable to me, it's simply not enjoyable for me to play right now. If it becomes enjoyable again I'm more than willing to come right back to it.

this is how i feel spot on. i log on to play then i think of what i want to do, nothing comes to mind, so i turn my head to netflix and forget that i signed on. when i do realize im still in game after a californication season 1 is over i logout and start watchin gangland.

That's how I feel too, sometimes. I've been playing lots of Fallout 3 lately. There's simply not much to do at all in FFXIV, so why spend much time playing it?

That said, the lack of content in the game is no reflection on my ability to wait. As long as the game is free, I don't mind waiting. And I definitely don't mind logging in and playing every now and then. People who boost their crafts/levels/gil supply now will have it made when this game launches for PS3.

I'll give it some time to come together. Having said that SE needs to start giving out info/updates because like others have said, we have alot of choices between MMOs to pick from and only a limited amount of time/money to play them. Sometime in the future people are going to started decided what to cut and what to keep.

For me it would be unlimited patience but it would be useless to play a MMO if there are no other players.
So I selected "verry little, need changes" because I've already noticed a very noticable reduction of my servers population during the last week. I fear that people leave and don't come back if SE doesn't tell us what is planned in the near future and when they will get the planned stuff online.
Also they should give us an update in the next weeks so people have something to discuss and try again. No big update needed but something to keep players attracted and the talk about the game alive.

I would have to go with a moderate amount of patience for such a new team. Had this been from the previous team i would have none at all. Yoshida has probbaly just recently gotten a grasp on what needs to be done in what order and gotten his teams how he wants them.

All that being said SE is pulling off one very large bluff on all of us. They are giving no info out because realistically its going to be a long while. Would you tell your players outright its going to be 1-1 1/2 years to gold? The revamp of the battle system was probably already in the works previously which is why he said it was coming. As i recall they made several versions of the battle system as far back as the Alpha phase. Would you stay in a game if the timetable looked like this:

March 1-14 -battle system changes (alpha)
April 21-30 - AH preliminary implementation
June 21-30 -zone X will be opened for players to explore
August 1-14 -quest system will be altered offering better rewards
september 21-30 -Adjusted Player Physical/battle levels (alpha)
October 14-21 -zone Y will be opened for player exploration
December 1-14 - Changes to AH/Physical levels
January 14-21 2012 - Battle system completed and adjusted

Seriously would any of you even play for 1 more day. Ya, i didnt think you would.
Everyone keeps asking for a timeline or info on whats upcoming. Are you prepared for it to be like whats above? None of you want to see the above. Many want to see something like this:

March 3 7:00am -Completed battle system implementation
March 31 9:00pm -Mantinence to open zones X, Y, Z
April 21 7:00am - Mantience for AH implementation
May 1 7:00am -Mantinence for Quest Updates and alteration
June 1 7:00am - Mantinence for Physical/Battle Level adjustments

I just dont think its gonna go this way. A game in such a poor state isnt going to be substantially better by March 1 no matter how much you want it to be. SE being who they are wont throw millions at new teams when they arent even sure it will survive.

I don't play, nor have I even bought the game. I did play extensively in beta though. I'm giving them 6 months from now. If its playable and fun by then, I'll probably buy it if for no other reason than to give SE money for owning up to its mistakes.

As harsh as I've been on the game, I do not want to see SE go under. I still strongly believe that they have some of the best developers in the business. I'm not entirely sure what went to terribly wrong with FFXIV (or FFIII for that matter), but I really think that SE can turn around and bring a solid FF game to us.

I get on every once and awhile do leves, but since I have work and school I don't play as much. Also this is the second character I created, after trying to PL this character to the same level as the last character, I got burnt out. So I probably would have been further along if I didn't start all over again.

This is my first: http://lodestone.finalfantasyxiv.com/rc/character/status?cicuid=7862827

ya I know. IMO I don't think anyone every completely leaves a game. I say I'm done with ffxi, but as long as I can still recover my person I know it can happen. Same with wow, same with aion, same with coh, etc. maybe a better way to call it is "indefinite hiatus"
