All I can say is...

THIS IS ALL I EVER WANTED! Not the specific things they are working on in general, but more the information itself!

Next updates after the beginning of february? PERFECT!
Several smaller updates every few weeks instead of large scale updates every few months? PERFECT!!
Quests and Story related content? PERFECT!!!!!!

I'm so ******* glad that content and mini quests won the vote...the 23% that voted for an Auction House needs to be ignored(or rather shot...) for now...****, I still can't understand why any person would vote for that at the current state of the game...

All I wanted and needed to keep me going without hesitation has been adressed in this letter.

I'm seriously ******* grateful and look forward to things to come!

I do like that they are talking about letting you have the choice if you want what you wear on your head to be visible or not. I know that it isn't anywhere near as important as other issues, but I like that they listed it. I mean, there are some headgear that I find to be rather atrocious. Yeah, it gives me added defense and dexterity, but it looks like the rear end of an Opo-Opo.

Everything about this makes me happy.

My main issue with FFXIV was it being different for different's sake. The mention of changing class names is just evidence to me that they will stop trying to make a completely different experience from FFXI and instead just making a great game.

One of my favorite parts is introducing rank specific gear to provide player-oriented goals. This has been my main motivational problem since the start.

SE can easily just implement punishments for spamming jump. Perhaps it drains your MP if you continually jump in succession, or drains your health, sort of like your tiring yourself up constantly jumping. There's many ways to get around the jump spam problem besides just auto-jump via Zelda games, but we will see. I personally hope for jump myself!

Loving all the announcements so far!

this is great news that i am sure we all have been waiting to hear. not to be negative but i hope they are careful with the amount/rewards for quests and still stick with partying/grinding as primary way to sp/exp. but i am not complaining just that is my hopes and dreams.

When the only negative thing said so far is something as small as jump, I have high hopes for what SE can pull off here. Good showing. :)

Good stuff all around.

Changes to allow targeting by type (PC or NPC) when targeting with a gamepad - HUGE

Oh..and also don't forget, this was the first in a series of polls. Yoshida is not done asking for help.

Introduction of gear with rank requirements to create player-oriented goals - oh baby YEA!!

Personally I would be against the Jump ability as having played WoW with tens of people at any one time jumping about town with or without their mounts (sometimes myself) gets old and tiring real easy!

More than that, my biggest concern is the time that SE will have to spend on something which won't really improve the mage just because a small percentage of the playerbase asked for it when they could actually be working on content and improving UI and such!

I kind of agree here, when I think of MMO jumping, I think of 'wow' (counting how many backflips you can do in a row before it automatically does a normal jump was a game in and of itself). I can't help but think adding jump will make the hoped for player-base change into a more 'stupid' one. I also think that 'in towns' jumping around breaks the 'feel' of what a calm town is supposed to feel like. However, those ledges that are 1 inch tall that won't let me pass may have finally met their match!

I actually agree on this as well.. PLS don't implement the jumping feature... or if you absolutely have to, then at least make it so you can jump only outside of the towns...

Yeah cause the ability to jump = making the game/community dumber... get a grip people.

I actually like it since we may be able to jump over 2 inch ledges now.

wouldn't adding jump be a huge deal for developers since right now the models or what ever you would call them are not designed to have people standing on top of stuff? if this is true then i hope they do not spend a lot of time making every object low enough to be able to jump on have a solid surface to stand on.

I really appreciate that Yoshi-P (loving the new nickname) put out a full written plan of what he wants to accomplish. Also he goes into detail about what he thinks of the poll answers, and gives us a general idea what he wants to do with those answers. Definitely a very good long read to wake up to this morning. To be honest, aside from the jump feature, (only thing i'm a bit on the fence about) the biggest shocker to me was that more people chose content over an AH. After the polls first went up, quite a few people around here, myself included, were pretty sure AH would be the clear winner over content. I gotta say, i'm VERY happy to see that most people saw what was really needed first, and by quite a large margin.

Out of all the goodies in the list...something as stupid as to jump or not to jump is a topic.

So..on the topic(hehe)...WHO CARES. We have legs...legs can jump. Free the legs.

With that being said...jumping in 14 would look a lot different than jump in the other MMOs currently out or coming out. The animations will look different and probably have a better feeling of gravity...if you know what I mean. Something about 11 and 14 that I enjoy is the sense I was drawn to the ground...and not floating along while running like in WOW.

But I wouldn't mind seeing it because I know they would do it right.

On the topic of jumping, we should consider the opposite as well: Falling.

There are some places where the terrain drops off by 2-3 feet or more, but there's a magical barrier that requires us to walk around. It would be nice to have those magical barriers removed and let us jump down hills.

I have to admit that at first I was against jumping, but I have to admit that I've warmed up to the idea a bit.

Remember in the movie Liar Liar where Jim Carrey says he's going to show up to say goodbye before they leave for their flight?

It's kinda like that.

With all of SE's history, I'm hesitant to trust them, but if Yoshi-P shows up next to my plane on a mobile staircase, I'd be pretty psyched.

I'm still kind of surprised to see this kind of hesitation. Its almost like SE touched you as a kid and you can never trust them again. I saw the EXACT kind of statements before the first two major updates and they delivered on nearly everything they stated they would. He's trying to build a trust with the playerbase to try and salvage a game that is diminishing day after day, the best thing he can do is NOT to ***** us over with promises he can't make. They have to deliver the goods they say they will if they have any chance of making this game work at all.

Kudos to the team, I am looking forward to the stuff "Yoshi-P" (lol) and staff will be implementing. I love the personality of the letter, not just a statement that feels like it was blurted out by a robot, shows he is going to have some real attachment to the game IMO.

BTW: Jumping Drains Stamina, no stamina no jumping. That will slow the hop in all the frogs

I'm really happy he said they're going to implement these changes as they're completed; on a bi-weekly schedule. February is less than two weeks away, so I'm really optimistic that we'll start seeing the major changes within a month.

Excellent, their priorities almost match up to mine. I would've had AH a little lower and Armory system higher. As it is, the stats on equipment really dont make that big of an impact beyond your main weapon. Also, HQing weapons has a much greater impact than HQing armor, which as an Armorer I find to be silly.

I'm glad they are looking at Battle/Class changes first as they should get the major adjustments out of the way as soon as possible to avoid any conflicts down the road.

Great letter.

It's amazing how people picked Auction House for the #2 slot ... the game is enjoyable without one, and while one may help in the long run, theres no way it should be #2 priority over making the game fun.

So their priority is more Storyline then Auction House ... really guys? Everything on that list is considered content except for the AH (because we already have functioning market wards).

My initial reaction was to interpret this as players stating that they want more adventures in Eorzea! More gil and loot!

No .... we don't need more gil lol. Loot ... ok well new stuff is always cool but theres a lot of gear for all level ranges as it is. I'd rather have more ways to enjoy the game then more stuff to e-peen around.

Anyways I think he's on the right path mostly.
I'm glad they are doing 2 updates a month now. I mean I'd much rather see two smaller updates than wait 30-45 days for more stuff. New content every 15 days or so is not much, but you can visually see progress coming at a faster rate.

As someone who has been getting increasingly vocal about their criticisms and waning patience, I've got to say; this post alone reenergized my desire for this game.

I know well that there is a lot of wait-and-see for follow through here, but the depth of what is an initial piece of communication is nothing short of fantastic.

As a self-referred fanboy, it was breaking my heart to see the state of things throughout 2010 from SE. Hopefully the company as a whole can learn from Yoshi-P's lead here. It seems they're prepared to go above and beyond the call of duty here and really give us a fantastic gaming experience.

Beyond this post, I'll maintain my reservations till I see implementation, but I feel this deserves a tremendous round of applause.

At least it wasnt #1. No doubt NMs, more levequests, and PvE should've been higher. Hopefully they also try to fix the economy when they implement the AH.

I'm excited for two primary reasons:

1. Jump - Not because they may or may not implement it into the game, but because it proves that S-E is listening to the voices of North American players and people in general. The primary people who want a jump button play western-style MMO's, and while i personally don't have feelings either way, its cool that they are listening to our feedback.

2. Class name changes - Yeah, also a bit random considering all of the other details announced, but I really dislike terms like pugilist, thaumaturge, and conjurer. Monk, Red Mage, and Black/White Mage have that Final Fantasy FEEL, and like other posters have said, it was like the initial development team was being different for the sake of being different, not to make a good Final Fantasy title.

My point is that Yoshi-P "Gets it". They aren't making a Final Fantasy. They aren't making a Next Generation MMO. They are making a Next Generation Final Fantasy MMO, and the combination of traditional Final Fantasy elements with next generation feedback, changes, and adaptive playstyles is what he wants to bring to us.

This all sounds amazing! I'm very excited, especially with the affirmation that our characters won't be wiped. Great news.

One thing that I'm surprised wasn't mentioned was in-game integration of "Achievements" or "Character History". This is one of the major tenets of modern game 'encouragement' and is present in many successful games, from the Blizzard ones to even iPhone/Android games (openFeint, etc.) Of course there is a lot of work the SE team is doing, and I'd bet that not mentioning in-game acheivement tracking explicitly was only an oversight.

Auto jump (FF13 mechanics would be great) in passive (running around) mode.
Manual jump (any time you want) in active (combat) mode.

Manual jumps should require endurance just like every other combat action.

Problems solved.

Holy whoa!! That really read like he took the poll to heart and lurked in the forums! I was a tad disappointed there isn't much to add/tweak with gathering, but increased speed is definitely a bonus!

I was set to stay mostly a gatherer even before release, but reading this, my first thought was: "Now I really gotta level a DoW!" The type of future content they are hinting at, I want to have fun hitting stuff and make more friends while doing so.

Thanks Yoshida, for this wonderful letter! Totally jazzed all over again!

Good way to stop annoying jump spam is to have a "jump fatigue", i.e. you can't jump more than 5 times per 10 second interval, and if you do, it incurs a 5 second delay between jumps, and you have to wait a full 10-20 seconds with no jump to make the delay go away.

But I think jump would be a cool idea to do even in combat, like "quick I need to jump up on this platform or this boss will put a hurtin' on me" or "I need to time my jump so a tail swipe doesn't knock me back". It's another element to make combat more engaging and different from the whole "use skills 1-5 while standing mostly still".

EDIT: Better yet, make jump deplete the stamina bar as though it were a combat skill. This introduces a new layer of complexity for possible mob fights. "Do I want to jump and lose some personal damage, but avoid some incoming damage; or do I want to just deal as much damage as I can and let the healers take care of it?"

Perhaps I need to clarify my earlier comment: I'm not complaining, and I'm not intentionally distrustful. I'm trying my best to have faith that Yoshida will do what he said he will do.

In my Liar Liar example, I'm less the mom and more the kid. No matter how much they do things to make me thing I can't count on them, I still want to count on them anyway.

I'm optimistic that SE will pull through and implement what they're planning to implement.

lolwut?

This is an mmorpg. My levels are my achievements. Level requirements for end game events, NMs, new zones, new weapons, new abilities, etc... are what "encourage" players. Not some pointless, e-peen achievement or trophies. If you want achievements, go play Halo.

Indeed. I'm not really for allowing jumping -- truthfully, it seems gimmicky, and they could just as easily just fix clipping/dropping from small heights to satiate players who, say, find themselves getting stuck on tiny, half-foot drops along those The Black Shroud riverbeds, but if it had to be added, I'd like to see it done in two specific ways:

1) One jump takes about one-third of your stamina gauge, meaning you'll have somewhere between 3 to 4 jumps if you try and start hopping around (4 from just general stamina gauge regeneration even while expending stamina). I honestly can't at all see why anyone would have to jump more than that in succession.

2) If you expend your entire gauge, you need to wait until it has refilled entirely before getting your "allotment" of jumps again. Sort of like how in Everquest, you could shove your way through (clip your way through) other players or NPCs, but it bottomed out your stamina, and you couldn't do it again until it had replenished entirely.

This is an mmorpg. My levels are my achievements. Level requirements for end game events, NMs, new zones, new weapons, new abilities, etc... are what "encourage" players. Not some pointless, e-peen achievement or trophies. If you want achievements, go play Halo.

They're already present on the Lodestone and have been for a few months now. Why wouldn't you want to see them in-game as you achieve them?

This guy (Yoshi-P) gets it! I never expected so much information to come out one week after the poll concluded.

It doesn't just show that they're listening, but that they're serious about this game's future and committed to the players.

we will be bringing quests and miniquests to Eorzea sometime after the beginning of February

This is good. And no mention of subscription fee schedule at all

We will also be looking in earnest at the possibility of implementing an auction house, as well as continuing to improve the functionality of the item search feature.

25% of the players asked for this. Only because 40% felt the need to ask for quests instead. Of those 40%, I'll bet some of them want an AH as well. I think these two components should have been in separate questions to get a better idea of how players feel about the AH. I think the actual percentage is much higher.

Really gonna drag this out aren't you?

Alot of talking and planning. I want to see what they can actually implement in February. That is what will count.

Its funny I've been saying this for almost 4-5 weeks now. I am so happy to see it finally said by Yoshi-P!!!

I have been very hopefuly and steadfast in my defense of the game being developed into an MMO of the Final Fantasy name and being a follow up to XI. I am hoping that it keeps its uniqueness from XI and as with most of the community I hope SE does pull a lot of the successful features from xi.

I ma loving the stated addition to combat via quests and mini quests . . . This was huge for me I want do things for the NPC's in the world and interact with both NPC's and and PC's!!!! this is a godsend that SE states they are implementing this stuff first.

Beast tribes will be added and be apart of the roaming world and within quests as well!!! Beast encampment raids and quests that allow interaction with the lore!!!

Honestly from the storyline seeing the models for the beastmen They looks intense and to have real fights with them is really alluring!!!

I am so stoked for all the material that will be added in the coming months that I can hardly contain my self from peeing out of excitement!!!!

Yoshi, you have my confidence and support!!!

This all sounds amazing! I'm very excited, especially with the affirmation that our characters won't be wiped. Great news.

One thing that I'm surprised wasn't mentioned was in-game integration of "Achievements" or "Character History". Lol well said!

I want my goals in a game to mean more than just some number on a scoreboard.

Most people were ******** that said information didn't come minutes or even a day after it ended, yet it's clear (as the non cynical people were syaing) he needed time to get everything organized. I expected it to take at least another week but it's nice to see he did it fairly quickly.

This is above and beyond anything I expected. I can't even come up with all the words I need to describe my current mood having seen all this. Hopefully they keep their end of the bargain by posting regular diaries as well as the bi-monthly updates... I'll do my part by playing the game and trying to figure out the nuances of the various systems.

Well on a quick read through the only garishly bad thing I noticed is they may implement a jump feature, which while I would rather not see one in FFXIV (Although some of those ledges and stuff should be able to be walked up/down) if it's the worst thing that happens, great. Other than that a lot of good info, a plan and a sort of timeline. I await to see the new complaints in the morning.

I'm just curious to know why you are against a jump feature? To me not having a jump makes the game feel very infantile, being glued to the ground and not being able to fall off a ledge and take fall damage, and possibly die, feels like the game is on training wheels. I think a jump feature alone would make this feel like a much more modern, fun game.
