I hope that's not out of context. O_O That comment was simply in reference to a small tiffy regarding the auction house prior to my post.

Not at all, it's something I say when my friends get into an arguement...usually calms the situation with humor ^^

On topic: I'm curious to see how they are going to make each class more unique.

Yeah me too. I am worried though at the same time. I don't want all my hard work that I'm putting into my CON and THM to be for nought. That would make me a very sad kitty...lots of Q_Q for me.

IMO the job system in XI was too rigid at times. In XIV, the opposite is true and the jobs are too fluid. Hopefully they can find a happy medium.

I agree. In FFXI it was nice to have a path laid out for my job growth but frustrating because of the community's predefined notions of the role a job plays. Example:

-Whm DD using club, amazingly hilarious to see my friend dual wielding his Pirate Clubs and bust out a 2k Hexa Strike in a small group setting and shock the random members of the group.

Blue Mage and Puppetmaster became my favorite jobs because of the flexibility the job had to fill almost any role just by changing the spells and traits set / or puppet attachments.

Drg/Blu soloing or even Sam/Dncing with Soboro to solo some hefty stuff in evasion gear.

Basically, I love flexibility but in the end, any of these flexible combos were still fine tuned for a certain job giving it individuality. I need to feel like an individual even when I know everyone else is leveling the same job.

Regarding the JP answers to the first question, I was surprised at モンスターハンターフロンティア having over 10% behind FFXI, when WoW had 1.4%. I had no idea Monster Hunter was so popular, and I almost want to try it to see if maybe there are any モンスターハンタ influences in XIV.

You realize if they added jumping to FF11 those tiny little unpassable bumps would till be unpassable. You till hit a invisible wall regardless if your jumping or not because map itself wasnt created with the intent of jumping in the first place. They have to re-encode each and every map which you know they wont.

Same goes for FF14, even if they add jumping, unless they re-encode each map it make no difference, you would be jumping like a ****** at invisible walls. And for them to go ahead and re-code every zone for simple reason as jumping is just plain dumb.

It may sound dumb, but if they add jumping and you STILL can't jump past those impassible walls, then people are gonna get annoyed.

Dumb or not, they're going to have to. It's one thing not to remove the invisible walls around the edges of the tall cliffs e.g. the areas around Limsa Lominsa, but the small ridges are going to have to be redone so that you can jump over them.

At first my position was "If the game is like XI in that they have obnoxious little ankle high impassible mountains, then implement jump. If they actually make bumpy terrain behave properly and allow you to traverse it, then jump is silly to add because it serves no purpose."

After playing the game, and seeing the same annoying *** ridges that are below your knee but become impenetrable walls for no apparent reason, I have changed my opinion to support jumping.

Go on. Turn on FFXI and walk around in La Thiene, Attohwa, and Ordelle's and try to tell me that you still don't think that maybe jump might kinda be nice to have sometimes. :)

I remember having this exact conversation with you on irc during beta 2/3.

This is extremely likely.

Why all the jump hate? I a mean really its not that big of a deal lol. Jumping does not open a huge can of worms nor does it do anything to limit a player in his or her playing all it does is give you something to press while waiting on something and open better boss fight dynamics, also prevent you from running 2 miles around a 6 inch lip in the dirt, so where is the lose here?

OH ya also I loved the post and would welcome more defined rolls in the class system hope they follow through and i can reinstall!

"Re-code"? I doubt they're typing geometry information in by hand; they most certainly have a tool to construct the game's levels. It's likely that removing the invisible walls is simply a matter of selecting the invisible volumes around certain cliff faces and hitting the delete key. I also can't fathom that they'd set up an invisible wall for something as mundane as a rock jutting 2 inches out of the ground.

There are benefits to jump. I think the main problem is you get bored players who will sit in town and just hit Jump over and over again. Beyond that you have players who use jump to get absolutely anywhere in the map. For jump to be implemented soundly the map has to be designed with jump in mind. Soon you will see videos popping up of people running behind the terrain, falling through, and possibly using this to their advantage. It's just a lot of work for a game that wasn't built for jump functionality for a feature that's not really needed. It's really not that annoying to have to run the extra 3 seconds to get around that cliff.

Essentially the benefit is no great than the issues jump presents.

Sadly I seen many MMO add jumping after the fact but didnt recode each zone. It was the most stupid thing I ever seen.

I happly welcome a recode of the zones sense FF14 has a ton of invisible walls. Sort of makes the maps feel really stiff and artificial. But to be honest recoding zones is alot of work and there are probably 100 better things they can spend their time on.

Here are some ideas that I haven't seen others mention. Basically, I'd like to see changes that improve the efficiency of the game.
1. The servers crash and I get disconnected from the game every few hours which is annoying.
2. The market wards reset too often which means 1) the market wards are emptier so it's hard to find an item and 2) I need to babysit or check-on my retainer to see if she's still online.
3. We need more inventory space. Either increase space to 199/199 or add another retainer. People that craft multiple jobs know what I'm talking about.
4. Animations for crafting and gathering could be shorter.
5. For crafting leves I need to deliver to a camp, I can start crafting without talking to the NPC first. However, for leves that I need to deliver in-town, I have to talk to NPC first to get mats. Why the inconsistency? Once I've done a leve I should be able to do the same leve again on the next reset without having to talk to in-town NPC first to get mats.
6. Faster anima regeneration b/c those of us that play everyday are always low on anima. A fast chocobo would work.
7. New jobs like musketeer.
8. More content for those in rank 20-30s like a mid-level NM to fight.

In terms of jumping, I'd rather see my character take a big step over the 2 inch wall rather than leaping over it.

I hate to be Debbie Downer, but unless I missed something in his notes, it appears as though they are doing absolutely nothing to change the way SP is scaled. Are people actually happy with the current grind?

Even if the DoW/DoM "party SP bonus" is 200% SP per mob killed, the grind from 1-50 is just WAY too long, especially under the current system in which you have to level multiple jobs to play efficiently.

And what about the DoH or DoL SP grind? Absolutely nothing to alleviate the time sink that is the DoH grind? Faster DoL animations will help somewhat, and if they could eliminate a couple of the fifty clicks it takes to exhaust a node it would save some time too, but it's like a band-aid on a bullet hole...it takes FOREVER to grind MIN/BOT/FSH from 1-50.

Every single one of the announced changes sounds amazing to me. I really do feel bad complaining after such an announcement (and I expect and deserve a certain degree of flames for it). I feel like I asked for a Lamborghini for Christmas and I'm complaining about my new Ferrari.

I was just really hoping for some type of change announcement that would alleviate the grind :-( It's all great stuff, polish, bells and whistles, improvements and changes to fundamental game mechanics, but the simple truth remains that FFXIV is just a grind not made for casual players.

They put this in a weird section, but they're planning on adjusting that too.

Changes to claiming/engaging enemies | Examination and implementation of changes to claiming and engaging enemies | Ongoing balancing of skill point acquisition following initial changes

As for DOH/DOL, I assume that crafting or gathering items faster than one per 30 seconds is going to be a huge, huge improvement in the grind.

I think the section you mentioned is about mobs damaged while yellow giving less SP when they become claimed.

Naw loads of the terrain is c&p so should be able to recode those portions and lay it over... this game kinda set it self up for the easiest job on fixing or revamping their terrain

Changes of class names to traditional names? Addition of a jump feature? Along with pretty much all the things listed in the planned changes...this is pretty exciting news. The name change alone will probably make this feel more Final Fantasy for me. I'll probably start playing again. Soon.

LOL I had a WHM friend who used to do the same thing. DNC was my favorite job, with BLU being second. DNC didn't have quite the swiss army knife ability of BLU but it was an awesome healing/support job if used correctly. To me, the current job system is just too flexible and needs some definition.

Saw another post with someone wondering about Hamlet Defense. I really hope this gets added as I loved Campaign in XI. Showing up, forming parties and beating back the beastmen hordes in big to huge battles was just so much fun.

Have to say I am pretty well please with what was said in the results of the polls. The question of AH over content was interesting which one was more important between the two was very interesting.. Seem's Yoshi-P gets it and I am happy with the result's from this poll and more to come apparently a plus...

For jump I don't mind it add more depth to the game imo. Most the hype of jumping Im seeing is being refer to WoW with people jumping all over the place while pvping. Mostly annoying to mages because you have to constantly keep facing your target so you have you spell cancel on you! Jump feature imo is mostly for areas in the game that either get stuck in jump down or over something it should have no place in battle well unless there a dragoon jump ability lol. If jump is consider in that fasion then I seriously doubt people will over do the jump command becase mostly it's a annoyance factor beyond anything else.

If/When jump is added, the first thing I'll do is head to the higher level zone with 200 foot drops and kill myself for the lulz. It's just fun.

.. then I'll be careful not to do it again in the future.

edit* Wow this got me thinking. If invisible walls were removed, then some kind of treading water mechanic would have to be implemented as well. Imagine you had a rough day crafting and decide to end it all off the Limsa Lominsa bridge. What would happen when you land in the water? I suppose the could add in some "guard rails" in certain areas, but invisible walls are a no-no in my book at this time in gaming. If I can see it, I want to explore it.

The game is dead and no one wants to play it, and they're trying to make it something profitable that everyone can enjoy for several years. If you are happy to just play some barren game, void of any content, you're the weirdo not anyone else.

Wow, this is very nice to see. To be honest, I haven't played in several weeks now and even stopped posting here. Just the other day I was thinking that I was done with SE. This letter however, might have changed my mind again. As others have mentioned, it really seems that Yoshi-P "gets it" and wants to bring back that Final Fantasy feel. This may be incredibly presumptuous of me (and I may very well end up eating my words later, who knows) but Yoshi-P might just be the best thing to happen to SE in a long while. If he really does follow through and end up making the changes he listed, I'll be quite happy. Suffice to say I haven't written this game off yet, but of course that all depends on how any changes he makes plays out in game. I'll have to get my hands on them first.

In the beta I fell through an area in Gridania and ended up underneath the world. I forgot you can teleport and you weren't able to contact GMs for help, so I just kept running, hoping to get out of this mess.

I ended up in a giant lake up to my chest.

Actions speak louder than words.

That said, seeing this did make me very happy and very hopeful. I liked most all of what I saw, but I do have a nagging fear that elements and variables of the current combat system will be changed in lieu of fundamentally changing the actual system itself.

I am very pleased with the long, detailed letter Yoshida typed out. I knew it was coming and it would be worth the wait. The poll results were very interesting, especially seeing what each area of the world picked as important to them.

I won't go in depth on what I think about each individual aspect of the coming changes since most of it has been said before in this thread. I will say I appreciate the increased communication, and it will be very interesting to see how the game changes over time.

I always knew a good game was going to get even better. All that was needed was a little patience and a cool head.

BECAUSE EVERYONE WILL BE JUMPING UP AND DOWN ALL THE TIME AND IT'S GOING TO RUIN THE GAME FOR ME AT LEAST THATS WHAT EVERYONE ELSE SAYS SO I BELIEVE IT TOO WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH

but seriously.

I was playing Rift beta and one of the most fun parts of the game was quite literally jumping into battle. Like if i was on a ledge above the bad guys and stuff. It's like way more fun and immersive to jump down, swords drawn and screaming "Death to Marmots!" then it is to calmly and methodically run through a small labyrinth of invisible walls/ledges.

i understand that the name change is purely cosmetic, but yoshi is really going for saturating this game with "final fantasy-ness". I'll also add that my pugilist gear macro is labeled "monk".

Jumping can be tactical as well, a lot of times you as a caster you might want to jump and stand on a ledge above the combat for a more clear view of the battle. Also jumping is usually coupled with fall damage, which adds another small element of danger.

Another thing, just from an immersion standpoint. We are supposed to be these awesome giant/dragon slaying heroes, yet we're foiled by an ankle high ledge, or a twig on the ground.

i just wanted to say how funny it is to imagine all the angry anti-jumper people fuming with boiling rage at the new feature they might be getting, as they rate me down for saying its good to get a new jump feature.

gg guys. i'm going to find you all ingame and jump circles around you for days.

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooo! **** you.... jumperssssss!!!!!!

lol, I don't think anyone is raging about it, it just seems like such a small, out of place concern in the grand scheme of things that also happens to stir up memories of WoW. I literally had a co-worker who used to play WoW who came to try FFXI and quit because he couldn't stand not being able to jump (it just kept opening up the chat window). He made it to level 10.

Honestly, I don't think it will make a difference in the game whatsoever, at least not in any way that would influence the average player, but I've already been shocked at a co-worker quitting over such a miniscule thing, so it being such an odd mention is why so many comments have been made on it.

In the bigger picture, everything on the first page, the auction house, combat mechanics, and established priority of fixes are all very important and awesome, but they aren't even debatable topics. It's like "they need these things", we know they need these things, and we aren't even questioning that, meanwhile, jump and mount jokes being taken to their most serious level... are hilarious ;p

The game is officially doomed now, thanks qqers we are getting the NGE update you always wanted.

Seriously kid, you are the biggest QQer I have ever seen on any forum. In fact I have seen you make several blog entries on the Lodestone whining about eorzeapedia banning you for QQing.

The game is dead and no one wants to play it, and they're trying to make it something profitable that everyone can enjoy for several years. If you are happy to just play some barren game, void of any content, you're the weirdo not anyone else.

Btw, I remember you making a thread about quitting if they NGE the game....so peace out bro.

Ooh the troll called me a kid, I probably fathered you KID.

hahahahaha somehow you literally picked the the response that most makes you come off as a whiny manchild.

go figure.

I'm pretty sure Hitler could jump.

Hopefully IF they implement a jump feature it wont be space bar spammable but instead situational. Like if you run up to a ledge or cliff that you can jump up/down your character does it automatically. This would be an awesome implementation imo.

THIS! Would be extremely nice feature then ^^ Also, with a jump function, people may finally see the boobs on the characters as they should to ^^ Seen many posts about the models and graphic being very nice, but no boob bouncing = bad :P

It is a little disrespectful to compare something so trivial to ****'s. They put millions of people in ovens and cooked them to death, remember that.

However,

you just attempted an add-on. you took a great risk, as everyone does when attempting such a feat. but, as in most cases...

it did not succeed.
