i look forward to a day in the future when we can let funny people say funny things and then just move on without ruining it with a million unfunny piggyback jokes.

on a positive note, Yoshi is my new game dev hero. He may save me the 60 bucks i was gonna spend on Rift.

Well that's quite a lengthy letter but it definitely was needed. Reading through his responses to the polls and questions on the letter was interesting. I feel like XIV is getting more to a collaborative project between the devs and the players which is exciting! It's really nice to get some insight of what the producer is thinking and I have to give SE props for becoming more in tune with the community especially coming from XI and SE often giving the "it's working as intended" line.

Overall, I'm eager to see what awaits for XIV.

I don't think there could have been a better response from SE.

It was almost textbook. I especially liked the human aspect towards the end.

I'm really excited about all of the changes; I think they will strengthen the game while still retaining it's individuality.

I new I liked this dude! Now if they can just fix (read: kill) durability and repair I'd be happy. With all the upcoming changes, especially with more group oriented combat, durability and repair are the only things keeping me from logging in. I will say this though, some of the combat is clunky. Best example is guarding with a shield: either RNG it or make it real time. This in between sh*t isnt working. I activate a timed ability to block with my shield that has a horribly inconvinient timer, and I put my shield down every time I do anything or get attacked. I love tanking but this and the sometimes funky enmity make me want to die a little sometimes.

Oh yea! More NMs and more focus on dropped gear and armor! Thank you!

Hello all,
I used this site for just searching recipes and gears before but I decide to register for answer a question in this thread :P

"Why JP players have very different gaming experience than NA/EU? What's the モンスターハンターフロンティア (Monster Hunter Frontier, MHF)"

1. WoW did not officially service in Japan. I don't know why. Maybe because when WoW started, the Japanese MMO market was already fulled by "MOE" game (in my opinion, more like enhanced IRC with cute and lovely 2D characters. think about Japanese Animation...) and the "haijin" game (hard-core serious playing required) MMO in JP at that time was UO, EVERQUEST, and FFXI. Actually Haijin game was minority on the market, from 2003 to 2008 the FFXI never entered top 3 selling MMO in Japan.

2. "Monster Hunter", designed by CAPCOM co., originated on PSP is the most successful LAN game ever made on handheld console (at least in JP market :p). Maybe I say "diablo I/II" or "Phantasy Star Online" will give a rough picture to who did't know MH. MHF is the PC MMO version of MH and very welcomed in Asia. Some of my LS members in FFXI never came back when they went to MHF.

Good timing Yoshi P. I saw Zam giving away Rift Beta VIP passes today. If there hadn't been a big post, that alone may have immediately lost you customers. You better get that content out fast - and talk more about what you intend to do with the classes... just rename? Remake? Add more and change the way the armory system works? Adding classes with more specialized abilities - leaving the original classes as the classes with the most cross classable ability? (Perhaps even adding more "seed" classes later to unlock whole new skill trees?)

Oh I think we all should be discussing the building of classes in the feedback forum. /Joy

The amount of people bothered by jumping simply because it gives others freedom to become more immersed in the game world in their own mind, is utterly pathetic.

For me the first order of business is to create the FINAL FANTASY feeling.

To have players take part in engaging quests that place them in a struggle against an impending crisis that threatens their world.

To have those players combine their strength and fight alongside one another.

Yoshi-P UNDERSTANDS that which IS Final Fantasy.

I have faith in the future of the game now that he has shared this with us.

Thank you, Yoshi-P, for accepting the legacy offered to you by Square and I look forward to enjoying your visions as you and your team bring them to life in Final Fantasy XIV!

It definitely sounds great on the surface-- let's hope that the entire team can back up Yoshi-P's talk. I'm encouraged, but still at the point where more than words are needed. Still, I grant them that as far as words go, these were top notch. I definitely like his personal touch, too. It puts a face, or at least a personality, on the company and the game.

Never confuse your inference as the listener for an implication of the speaker.

Good games are subjective like good food is subjective. You're not going to seriously tell me that there's not a psychological basis for why pizza is great and lutefisk is revolting. The thing about subjectivity is that, as subjects go, humans actually have a great deal in common.

Regarding the JP answers to the first question, I was surprised at モンスターハンターフロンティア having over 10% behind FFXI, when WoW had 1.4%. I had no idea Monster Hunter was so popular, and I almost want to try it to see if maybe there are any モンスターハンタ influences in XIV.

Monster Hunter is a GREAT game, but the only things that leap to mind as possible influences are the breaking of monster parts. In Monster Hunter, rather than killing lots of weaklings and the occasional boss, it's basically all boss-fights, which you spend anywhere from a few minutes to 40ish minutes killing the same monster or two. It's an action RPG with some RTS to it (think of a 3D Punch-Out). Anyway, monsters have many different body parts, and certain weapons do more damage to different parts than others, and breaking a part is sometimes the only way to get the drop ("carve") you need.

However, having played Monster Hunter, this feature is an awfully weak copy as it exists in FFXIV.

It seems some people had missed what they are planning to do to this game. Change the battle sytem, the classes, tweek the SP in party play, GL, ect..., change the armore to have Min levels to equip it. Add roaming NM, add actual content and so much more. Their are really going to do a complete overhaul on this game witch in my opinion is needed. They also said that players will not be whiped so no need to worry about that.

In the OP's original copy of the Loadstone page click on the little Grey and White box. That will open up to a bigger screen so you can read what they plan on changing/adding to the game.

Edit: The box is under Forth coming changes after the question/answer to 11.

Huh. I left the game about a month ago.
Seems like this has been the right decision;
I'll wait and see a little longer, and then,
maybe, come back.

Thank you for the case study in why many here (myself included) don't want to see a jump feature implemented. lol

Not like those bas*ards have earned anything from us yet anyway. Maybe the contract will be up for renewal by the time they decide to start charging (at the first anniversary methinks).

Anyway, the one announcement that had me jumping for joy?

The possibility of renaming the classes!

I don't think I'll ever get used to the current class names... thermometer-what? Pugilist? Really? (no joke, my first thought when I read that name like a year ago was a class that controled Pugils (from FFXI) as pets).

Anyway bring back the whm, blm, rdm naming scheme. Hopefully it'll also give them a better idea of how to retune the classes so each of them has a better identity.

Maybe not in FF games but they are real terms for what they are. Used often in fantasy writing for a long time. Pugilist is also a fairly common name for a boxer, maybe more so in Europe.

Jump. Maybe it could be possible for the jump action to drain your stamina bar X ammount"possibly completly each attempt, so after jumping twice you cant attempt again for afew seconds. This may lessen the desire to run arround jumping for the most part.I also -really -really believe the player base that plays 14 would not find running arround jumping fun.The reason would not be the players as much as it would be the game.. Wow is a different game different feel. In `14 you just look cooler walking any ways There is no real desire to jump arround because the sense of realism in place I really dont want to hit invisible barriers while jumping if this would be the case -just dont add it..Jump can addsomthing to the game. When playing FF it feels at times like your playing a map and not in a world, because the inability for your character to surpass terrain that any 2 year old could pass ,but you can not..However you are expected to make a stand against the garlean empire...rite Wutai_Sage Draconia

I'm sorry for the slight necrobump, but those sly translators have edited one particular line in this letter:

From

Quote:
Currently, the above changes, together with other adjustments and additions I have planned, are at about a 30% state of completion.

to

Quote:
Currently, the above changes, together with other adjustments and additions, comprise about 30% of what we currently have planned.

Seems like they also noticed the wording was originally misleading, when compared to the second letter, and this line in particular:

Quote:
Many players have voiced their desire for a complete list of all planned changes, rather than a partial 30% list.

Although it's a ninja-edit of the highest caliber, I am glad that these translation errors are being corrected. Keep up the good work.

From here I could make the assumption that the changes Yoshida revealed to us (30%) are being implemented in a 2 month schedule. That leaves them with around 7 months to implement everything they have planned (30%+30%+30%+10%).
