Multi-HDD and XIV not playing niceFollow

#1 Jan 22 2011 at 6:20 PM Rating: Decent
Ok, I've asked this on the appropriate forum http://ffxiv.zam.com/forum.html?forum=25&mid=1295542178202608751&page=1 and not exactly the answer I needed. I've asked on my LS forum and same...

Is there a way for those of us using an SSD as a boot drive to get XIV to download updates etc to the game drive instead of the boot drive? I'd prefer an easy mode answer obviosuly, but I'll take whatever I can get. Right now I'm running a boot and a game drive but thanks to a contest I plan on running XIV and a few other high HDD use games off of a 3rd drive, but I'd prefer to keep XIV isolated to that drive. How do I do it. Inquiring mind(s) want to know.

Well, there seems to be two ways to do this. The first would be use a 3rd party torrent client to handle the download part of the updates, but using that method still require moving the freshly downloaded files to the my games folder in your documents, so that really doesn't help you. The second option would be to move the entire 'my documents' folder using the method listed here http://support.microsoft.com/kb/310147. Not sure if that change is going to ***** something up but its reversible. The question I have is about your SSD, since you mention it being a boot drive. I'm going to assume its low capacity?

Yeah the drives only 64gb I'd only planned on using it for W7 boot and MS Office and certain AutoCAD files.

*EDIT* I Figured it out, apparantly there's a file or two that keep everything from transfering to the other drive. Forcing those files to copy from another admin account everything seems to be staying put via the "right click, location" method I was already using. We'll see what happend next game update if it tries to force itself back onto the boot drive or not.
