I want to put a slight disclaimer on my assertion about the stats being hidden - I haven't done any scientific testing to show that eating food can and does increase stats like accuracy, magic attack, gathering, output, control, magic craftmanship, etc.
To be honest the way that stats seem to be functioning from reading what baxter has compiled - it makes me think that food is made to help you boost your lowest stats. So that, for example, if you are a cook and a gladiator, you can drink juice to offset the magic-based stats you don't have - without reassigning points - so you can craft decently with full tank stats.

When it comes to sitting around not doing anything for long periods of time, only being active for short windows, and marginal changes and sidegrades I'd say FFXI players were the perfect choice for politicians.
