I think I have found the reason I find it hard to settle into this game, I really want to enjoy it as I love Final Fantasy and as of yet I think its the only the title that is keeping me playing.

I know SE wanted to make it easy to transfer us from XI to XIV, which is fair enough, I understand that to a degree. However, I really think they could of added new races, the reson I am not high level right now is I can't settle on one character. I find my self constantly deleting characters to try new looks and try get a new feeling to the game.

I don't feel like XIV has anything new to offer in that region, and when I first logged on I wasn't all pleased with my character like I was in XI, thinking I looked the bees knees and in XI we all looked the same!

There is no race backgrounds where as in XI we were told a story about the races why they are in the citys they are in etc. I know none of that in XIV, they are all mixed. I don't mind that but I want to know why?

I really think if there were new races this game would be more appealing, perhaps more people from XI would come over if there was something new to look at?

I hope in the future they implement new races to the game. However I can't really see this happening.

I thought that excuse was ridiculous. Did they really think that XI players are so simple minded they wouldn't play the game unless the races were identical? This is XIV, not XI-2! SE themselves have made that point repeatedly. I don't understand that logic at all.

I loved the XI line-up, but I believe most would have appreciated some new and unique races.

I haven't really got a problem with the races, but I know what you guys mean about uncreative races. They already did all of these in FFXI.

If they wanted to spice things up a little, they could have done human, elf, fox/mouse/not-cat people for the midget race, not-cat for the female only race, and bear/lizard/other-hardy-animal people for the male only race.

The two variants within each race is a nice touch though.

Oooooo, a nice wolf and I don't say that because of the WoW Worgen. I love wolves and always have since was a boy. If FFXIV had a Lycan race I would be very happy. All brute strength with high defense so don't have to wear all the gear. With Abilities like Shred, Rend, Mutilate, Frenzy.....

lalafell sounds like a small child's accident mid joyful skip

At great risk of sounding like a jerk, I gotta say no to that idea. No more furry races pleaseSmiley: dubious

****, even the FFXII/Tactics races could have worked.

You had..

Hume
Bangaa
Viera
Moogle
Seeq
etc.

And the universe was fleshed out enough to turn it into an MMO. Would've been great.

They could do gnomes and dwarves too.

I mean there's only so many variations of "human" that you can do before having to throw in animal or demonic or alien traits.

I think there should be a few more races. I am glad that they brought races from FFXI to FFXIV though. I love my cat girl, they look so much better than the ones on FFXI. I think the Roegadyn look better without the tails, sorry I was one of the people making fun of them looking like big rats. I think it is silly that you can't choose female highlander. I know it is typical for females to be depicted as smaller, skinnier, and frailer in Japanese things. But, it would be nice if SE stepped a bit out of the box on this one. They could easily make a female race that is taller and more muscular, but still not look like men.

I for one am glad that at least we didn't get the bunny-men (Viera) or the rat-men or even monkeys! (FFIX) Somehow those particular anthropomorphic combos never appealed to me.
Now, a playable Yagudo on the other hand.... or Mumbas! :U

I like the races as is, but it would've been kinda cool if they made the playable races after the beastmen tribes, and the enemies after the normal playable races. Imagine nuking a taru with your goblin mage!

They don't tell you in the character creation screen but each race actually does have a "home" (for example LL is home to plainsfolk lalafell, Midlander Hyurs, and seawolf roegadyn)

And there is lore as well - you just gotta talk to npcs to find out about it.

And Dunesfolk live in Thanalan areas, in caves, like little cavemen, are poor, the Brass Blades usually give them free Sandals and make good dinner for Peiste. But somehow they carry Everescent Water with them.

I liked being immersed into the lore thruogh the quests like on XI. Not having to talk to NPCs which did nothing more than spit out paragraphs of useless text with no cutscenes or much to it.

I'm almost positive that Gridania is home to the Plainsfolk along with the Wildwood Elezen or whatever they're called.

Or, better yet, how about they stop limiting race based on gender! I hate that and I've always hated that; more customization is always better, would it have been so hard to make a slightly-muscular female and a slightly-dexterous male? ~_~

It's a shame that the only things they took from FFXI were superficial things like that, things that, arguably, would have been the best things to redo.

Not much, but there is some stuff on the Final Fantasy website like

Quote:
Perhaps the most distinctive aspect of Dunesfolk culture is its traditional dwellings — structures affixed to the backs of large beasts of burden. The luminous eyes of the Dunesfolk are the result of a glossy, protective layer which covers the pupil, an evolutionary response to the glaring sunlight of their home region. Many individuals wear a small gemstone on their forehead, representing their zodiacal sign.

The rest is HERE.
