I have a small question. I decided to level ARC for fun and I have terrible accuracy for some reason. I can't hit the broad side of a green aldgoat from 2 yalms! I have 68 DEX (more than capped for my rank) and I still spend at least 60% (sometimes upwards of 75%) of my stamina bar on missed attacks. I have level appropriate gear including my weapon and arrows.

So I guess my question is, is accuracy completely broken or am I doing it wrong?

I think accuracy is natively floored (they also adjusted it so its a lot better than it used to be)..also I think they specifically changed archer's distance calculations recently so try playing with distances a bit and use accuracy gear..all that can be said really.

When my archer was rank 1-10 i missed a lot even though my dex was above max stats. My archer is rank 23 now and it has great ACC. i also have a rank 36 PUG and Physical 46. So as archer my dex, str, and vit are all capped.

What lvl is your archer?

Dex has an insignificant effect on accuracy or anything else for that matter. My archer still hits fine if I only gave him 40 dex. The most significant affect on accuracy is rank; you will miss like crazy against a red mob or it will evade you a great deal. The opposite is true as well; you won't miss much against blue mobs. The only thing that may help your accuracy is accuracy boosting items such as Silver Rings (these are very cheap too). Even more importantly, DoW almost seem to require Feint. This ability is R20 Lancer and is a godsend to all my DoW when I want to take on difficult groups.

Sorry about that, my Archer is rank 15 atm. I don't literally fight aldgoats, it was a figure of speech because of their size. But green mobs and light yellow mobs seem to evade a fairly large amount of my attacks.

Using your appropriate bow for your rank with appropriate armor and rings will help. The most important accuracy issue comes from a bow that is not optimal rank. Even just 1 rank below optimal is sometimes more then 25% penalty.

Like I said in my first post, all my gear is level appropriate (meaning that all my gear has a optimal rank equal to or less that my current rank).

Feint is definitely a good idea. Even with good equipment and accuracy I still seem to miss quite a bit, but Feint largely negates that problem.

If you are still using warped arrows, try switching to Obsidian, many people will be cheap and stick with warped but there is a drastic increase in both accuracy and damage using better arrows.

I use http://ffxiv.zam.com/en/ability.html?ffxivability=26689 on my ARC, love it. Mobs are dead before the duration ends, absolutely great for behests.

I wouldn't say a drastic increase in damage. Oddly, I do about the same damage with Iron Arrows and Warped Arrows. though, the accuracy is much better.

I also agree about level difference playing a direct role in your accuracy calculation in this game. It makes a huge difference. Not just for accuracy, but for damage as well.

For regular mobs, you'll never need more than 80 dex, regular being mobs that con yellow or lower.
On NMs though I've found having 100 to be the magic # (at least for Marauders) for a good balance of accuracy and critical hit.

40 dex will last you well into R30 though but the crit rate helps. Dex isn't the most important stat but that doesn't mean it should be neglected.

I've not had trouble on my archer, granted I'm rank 20, but I had capped dex from 1 to 20 and I rarely miss. Also use some silver rings (accuracy rings).

Try standing further away from the monsters, in FFXI the sweet spot iirc was 15 yalms (It's been awhile forgive that if its wrong), you have to find the right range for you.

eat food.... I've heard very nice things about food's effect on accuracy. I think food and rings are your best bets
