Is this coming? I seem to not recall reading any mention of a player search function in future updates. I find this mind boggling. Did I miss it somewhere?

I want to be able to find my friends! SE acts so surprised by the small percent of time spent socializing in this game. Well, what do you expect when the communication tools you give us are the equivalent of those cups-on-a-string we played with as a kid.

Well, considering that a month or two ago SE actually took away a feature of the search function (that, and they haven't mentioned plans to fix it immediately), I wouldn't be too hopeful that they're going to improve it any time soon.

A little off topic, but I think you've really hit the nail on the head about why socialization in FFXIV is so poor. Originally I had thought it was just the content difficulty; and while I believe that plays an important role, we really need better tools to communicate with. I suppose once Square Enix has time to introduce endgame stuff, and we actually see some real challenges, community may improve. Without better tools though, I honestly can't see us building anything out of the current community. To turn the metaphor into conceit, it would be like suddenly being motivated to make an international telecommunications grid, but still only having strings and cups to build it with.

I agree that some more tools would be nice. But, I have to admit, not everything is bad... The feature where you can see your unequipped linkshells chat is a pretty good idea, and I'm glad they added it.

But yeah, more challenging stuff would probably help the most out of anything. We socialize the most during NM's and craft parties atm, and back before the SP change, SP parties... hopefully that makes a comeback. ;p

Honestly... with as far backwards as SE has been bending over lately to fix the game and listen to the players, you think they won't address this?

I would like to /sea all, /sea all party (with levels and willing to SP) /sea all insert persons name) implimented in the game. Some of these were never in the except one and they took that out. It may seem to be an insignificant thing and probably is but it does make a difference.

Also hoping they redo the searching for party. I don't like it and other people either don't like it or don't use it.

The whole having a first and last name really jacks it up for me doing /searches for people I know. Even a simple /tell isn't fun when you miss-type one of the names.

I like the WoW style player search do /who tony montana and it gives my location my class and my rank. They should do something like that.

FFXI's search did that, but also had simple text commands to search by job, by level, by zone, by nation/rank, by party-seeking status, and by search comment.

/sea whm all - shows all White Mages
/sea whm inv all - shows all party-seeking White Mages
/sea whm 15-20 inv all - shows all party-seeking White Mages level 15-20

It was the single best search system I have ever seen in an MMO, and it was extremely easy to use; you could get just about anything you wanted by typing nothing more than a short string of 3-character commands...

...it's a shame SE forgot that they themselves created it.

They will simply have that feature disabled until the PS3 release. /sea function let's ppl to check the server's pop at any time, which at this time and server state would be just harmful. I do believe they will give us back /sea when the 'time is right'.

I also agree. XI's feature was straightforward and functional. Can't go wrong with that.

This is something that has baffled me since beta. One would think several popular commands like /sea and /lsmes would be in the game since beta, let alone 4 months into retail.

Another thing that I didn't see in the planned updates is the "hold" option for specific chat messages. I do hope they implement this. Even with filters, sometimes the chat box scrolls too fast to read messages.

While I think /sea commands should still be implemented I still think there should be a play friendly menu to look for players. Something better than the crap window with like 4 dropdown menus we have right now.
I'd even appreciate something more player friendly to make macros. It alienates casual players too much.

Something like what FFXIII used to set up paradigms.

Going to agree, this annoyed the **** out of me. I used /sea religiously in FFXI and was completely lost in FFXIV when I found out that they didn't make an equivalent.

Definitely want the /sea all commands back, able to sort by whatever criteria we want.
/sea all <job>, /sea regionname, /sea all invite, /sea region invite, etc.

They could always cap search results at 100 to prevent from showing us how many people are online. I think they want to avoid us seeing 300 users online.

I remember in Everquest 1, which has a /who command cap at 100, doing a /who all and seeing 68 results returned once :D

If SE implaments the same system they had in FFIX for this game it would be golden. I never use the party system they have now.
