Silly question maybe...Follow

Just curious but does anyone that uses Defender actually use it to turn it off? I mean, if you have it active and use it again, it removes the effect...but with a 30 sec timer I'm not sure I would ever bother to remove the effect. It's kind of annoying when you accidentally hit it and waste the stamina or even if not engaged, having to wait 30 seconds to turn it back on...although I have started putting it on my second action bar line, to try and avoid doing so.

Seems like it should just overwrite itself...I don't know...lol.

The ability to turn it off is useful for non-tanks. I didn't even realize you can manually turn it off in this game. This could be useful for my Arc.

As an Arc, when I pull hate, I can use Defender while getting beat on and then turn it off when the mob leaves me. I never bothered with it because I didn't know it could be turned off manually.

I used Defender in XI on my Ranger because you could cancel any buff manually, so I just cancel it when the tank gets hate back. I think it's time for me to consider it in this game. :)

Well for one thing, if you leave Defender II on, and you stand still, you start to generate a lot of threat.
When we've had non-gladiator tanks (ie, a glad doesn't show up so we let a Pugilist tank), once you get Steadfast your threat generation skyrockets and I've pulled hate just spamming Brutal Swing II (say to knock off a buffalo horn).

I always keep it off unless it's my turn to tank, or if a tank goes down for whatever reason. It takes a second to turn on, and once it's on I leave it on for the duration of tanking.

As for soloing, I generally don't bother with Defender II because I prefer offense.

Zam has the wrong description, but yg has the right one. In fact maybe I'll update that now.

Zam:
Quote:
Tighten your guard, increasing defense and reducing attack power. Increases enmity generation while under the effect of Steadfast.

Yg (and correct):
Quote:
Tighten your guard, increasing physical and magic defense while reducing attack power and magic potency. Increases enmity generation while under the effect of Steadfast.

Can other DOW than marauder actually get steadfast? I thought Steadfast was something that only MRD could achieve.

No, only Marauder can get steadfast, but all classes get Attack and Magic Attack down, that would be the reason to not always leave it on.

Ah ok, that clarifies it quite well for me, thank you. I guess I wasn't really thinking about a non tank application for it.
