They gained all that cool stuff through expansions.

Right now is the time that I consider a head start. The game is sub-par, and everyone knows it's being worked on. Anyone who is playing now knows that this isn't how it will end up. This is just time to get ahead.

My advice is get a linkshell that is always together, and chills together often. Friends make this game worth while just like most other MMORPGs. When end game comes, and the game is what it should be, I'll be ready. Will you? :P

nah i wont be. i already tried to justify forcing myself to grind for "future endgame" but its not even worth it lol. if and when theres awesome endgame content i will have some incentive to level up my jobs

youre acting like my hopes for FF14 were so ridiculous.. why shouldnt i have hoped to play SMN-like class, in FFXI's spiritual successor, with plenty of cities and towns to visit? youre just being mean.

and im not trolling im actually kinda depressed about everything, i know this forum has probably gotten similar whine/complaint threads such as this in the past, but oh well like I said forums are pretty dead might as well add a fresh topic.

The moment I saw your post as "trolling", was the moment you said "it looks like nothing really changed from CE Release to now"...which is so ignorant of you.

sh*ttons of stuff already changed and more is coming just today...if you can't/won't see this, its your fault. FFXIV is heading into the right direction and you saying otherwise is just not true.

okay fanboy. what did they really fix or add that is really gamechanging. dont mention the bazaar searcher. sure its better than nothing but people want an AH not that bs.

Fanboy...lol...thats the best you can think of to derail my argument? Clearly you didnt check any of the patches or the patch thats coming today...cause what they are going to change about the market weards just today is pretty much turning it into an "AH"...with the only difference, instead of getting the item out of a list, you have to walk to the retainer to buy it. But the search function change coming today is non the less turning the Market Wards into an AH.

Actually I didnt start at release , I only started about 2 weeks ago , I went out and bought a $1K computer to make this game work , I played all FF's prior , even FFXI for 8 yrs. I like FFXIV so far, because I know SE will continue to grow it , just like FFXI was short of content and kinda slow to begin with too.

I grew tired of FFXI because It got redundant and thats why I have moved on to the next version.

I have to agree with the others here though, if you don't play, haven't played and dont care to play.....go post in a forums where you actually have something to contribute.

Yeah zam isnt a good place to display dissapointment in ffxiv, the trolls/fanboys will eat you alive.

anything but high praise of the ridiculous and lame launch of this game is taken in a bad way and replied with hate and anger and insinuations that you must be a spawn of the devil or cornyboobs alternate ego.

hope the official forums go live soon.

i dont think they will have it as bad thre as some other forums
where the mods are too nice to ban people
i predict ALOT of trolls getting insta banned form the SE forums

or even better yet, i hope they do what some other games have started to do to their forums, if you have no in game account...you CAN NOT access them at all....(except for 1 forum usualy reserved for people who do not have accounts to ask questions)

I hope that only people with active accounts can post and not use aliases. Half the anger and outrageousness on the zam forums is because of karma camping and trolls.

I for one wont be trolling in official forums because hopefully there wont be a need to since they wont have karma its feasable to assume that there will be no easy method of harassment that isnt visible and easily moderatable.

2 things
1) if people are required to have active accounts, that means you wont hear dumb comments from people who dont even play the game nonstop advertising every other game on the market
2) if being held accountable and not being able to hide who they are, alot of people would not post some of the dumb stuff they currently do. especialy when people will know who you are in game as a result of it..

Champions Online ended up doing this, and let me just say it worked GREAT
yes you still had people flaming the game, but guess what, they were people who were actualy playing the game, and as thus they were actualy giving a perspective of what players were actualy seeing.

You really cant say that Mr Joe who has never played the game, but has read about it, really can give honest and good input to a game just because they can post on the forums....claiming they have. I know ALOT of people in this forum who do nothing but troll are this exact person who hasnt played the game but feels the need to do it anyway.

Well... I think any opinnion is welcome on any forum if it has something to actually say... just to say "I think nothing has changed so I am not goinng to play" is not very contstructive.
BUT even the troll posts seem to serve a purpose, this for example has started a depate about posting stuff on forums, not thanks to the OP though.

If you're gonna make troll-posts trying to get people to abandon this game because of some weird grudge against SE, at least link a decent game. Rift looks like just another WoW clone, and unlike SE, that games team doesn't seem to have any intention of making it better.

It looks like they copy pasted 90% of the game from WoW... Now, if that was what we wanted, wouldn't we be over on the WoW boards?... Pretty sure I'm playing FFXIV despite the recent WoW expansion because I thought that game was terrible, not because I was waiting for one exactly like it with a couple minor differences... And I'm not really a fan of people who just blatantly poach the work of others and call it their own.. You'd think they could have at least designed a unique HUD to go with that copy paste gameplay, but nope... I actually had to double check that video to be sure it wasn't a mislabeled WoW video from the Cata expansion.

what makes your opinion more important than my own.

we all bought the original copy of FFXIV and haven't paid subscription fees right? maybe you log in more than me but I have just as equal right to give my opinions as you guys.

and if I made a thread full of lies talking about how awesome FFXIV is im sure you guys would be really happy but this game is like.. on the verge of death. sorry. one more wrong move and the game is done for. but GL to yoshi whatever and his team, I hope they can make something good out of XIV.

I don't see why people stating their opinions is always considered trolling by those who disagree. Poubelle expressed how (s)he feels about the state of the game, no more, no less.
there is so much intolerance in these forums, maybe that's why there's so little activity. where's the love, man?

anyway, I'm on saronia (?) and I play every second day since the game came out and I've noticed a huge drop in server population. that or NOONE plays in the black shroud anymore.

I just hope S-E doesn't pull the plug because I've invested quite a bit of time in my character and I like the game. the updates really have improved the whole experience. just need a little more CONTENT, is all ;D

no one plays black shroud
go to LL and you see some really busy camps up to cedarwood
at 40, go to BW and have fun ever trying to get into behest when 60+ people show up to each one

Uldah is most populated
LL is decently populated
Grid is....well the redheaded stepchild.....

as for the trolling, read through all of some of these guys posts, they will start off with a semi non trollish thread, but then they break down into straight belittling and insulting everyone who disagrees with their topic, THAT is why they are trolls

What's really sad, is that this game is still in development, is basically a beta, was released way too soon, was misdirected by the old team, and is still more fun than any other mmo on the market...

Seriously, if SE's flops are better than the biggest and most popular mmo's on day 1, then wtf.

At any rate, I enjoy it now, and I'm sure it will get better and better as time goes on and things are added. By the time we see the PS3 version and the first expansion pack, I'm pretty sure it will be such a good game that it will spoil me and make me unable to play any other mmo for a long time without constant complaints, the way FFXI did.

Honestly, the only issue I see with the game is a premature launch. If it was still unreleased, and they showed me what they had so far and said it was only 20% complete, I'd be blown away. Well, factoring in future content, it is basically only 20% complete. So really I don't see much to complain about, they just need time to add on to it is all. If I get bored with it I'll take a break, but right now I'm satisfied with playing it casually here and there and giving SE a year or two to flesh the game out.

Of course, it's a subjective matter... If you don't like it, go find something you do like. We gamers sink loads of time into our hobby, and there's no point to it beyond the fun you have, so if you're not having it, you need to find another game or a new hobby. Preferably one that doesn't involve trolling the forums lol.

Hey tiger

So ya apparently these people who are oh so disappointed . . . . . also believe there is a magical machine in MMO land that makes content over night . . . .

Se ha stated they messed up on launch and are working over time to fix the core game, and then start implementing content. Tiger I am with you an olorinious(spelling sorry bud, this game now has a great foundation for SE to build on.

My ls and I have found a lot to do in order keep ourselves busy, We have been working on Ureas and the gob nm every day to gear up our melee's and we are switching focus now to getting every qeue'd and ready to do the faction nm's. I am a little under level atm to do useful damage to the nm's but with almost 1k mp I am a cure spammer in these fights letting our higher level mages do the nukes and enfeebles.

The ls has grown by leaps and bounds and with yesterdays changes we are anticipating within 2 weeks to get all of our members 1 rank 50 job. Dodore and buffalo are our next target.

The game until joining up with these guys was kinda meh bc playing an MMO solo is horrid. I like crafting and gathering solo. but main job leveling is way better in a group.

I am really happy to see the foundation fixed.

Alsoa quick commented on the AH part of things, with the new updates I can actually make due with out an ah. there I said it was shopping last night found what I was looking for grabbed and left was painless.

have you played other mmos on the market? o_o

specifically the one mentioned in my first post, just released and it's already really great with tons of content. makes me wonder how SE managed to mess up so hard when they had FFXI to look at for guidance during the development process. but anyway i would say there are plenty of better mmos on the market, you clearly need to search harder, if not DC universe than i can even think of some free to play korean games that are much more enjoyable than ff14 lol.
How many people do you need disagreeing with you before you consider that you might be wrong? Holy sh*t, you are a regular Wile E. Coyote as far as posts go. Here's a title for your next thread: "Hey, I just bought some Acme rocket skates."

I actually agree with the OP, so while a few of us might be in the minority group, it's definitely telling that more than one person seems to share in his opinion. This game is content deprived, and while it may look great and mighty on the surface, it fails to deliver in the way of fun and excitement.

In response to the OP, take comfort in the fact that you aren't the only disappointed final fantasy fan. Like you, I upgraded my comp to meet the demanding game requirements, only to be unpleasantly surprised when I opened up new game box to find a stinking **** inside.

As for the troll comments, I wouldn't pay much regard to those. I've been a member of the ZAM community since my FFXI days back in 2004. Even when I wasn't active playing, I still checked in because it was a great game that offered much in the way of great experiences. While FFXIV currently sucks bawls, I still maintain an interest, checking in on occasion to see what kind of progress and updates that were implemented or are in store. At times, I might feel compelled to comment on my dissatisfaction with the game. Not sure how that labels one a troll.

It's actually become quite humorous to witness the championing white knights jump up in defense when ever someone remotely questions the enjoyability of 'their' game. Keep fighting for the good cause I suppose.

Doing the same leve quests day in and day out, mindlessly grinding the same mobs with different names denoting different levels (not even a color-scheme change, sigh) and basically experiencing the same limited "content" hundreds of times over IS NOT FUN.

How UNfun is it? It's so UNfun that the president of SE ripped the old developer out of the driver's seat and replaced him, something that is UNHEARD of in MMO history.

And comparing it to every other MMO on the market? Assuming you've even played 1/10th of all the MMOs on the market, those MMOs have something FFXIV doesn't: quests, side quests, pets, guild housing, endgame content, PvP content, a huge, sprawling world that isn't copy-pasted, defined classes that actually have relevant roles...you name it, they have it, and by not acknowledging that FFXIV DOESN'T have it, you do your level best to kill FFXIV.

Let me illustrate this plainly...

FFXIV cannot currently stand on its own two feet with the playerbase it has now (even assuming EVERYONE who is playing for free would stay to pay $12 per month).

Yoshi-P sends out player polls asking what they need to change to make the game better and more enjoyable.

If all he gets back is "The game is GREAT! Don't change a thing!", then he has nothing to go on and this game will die a miserable death, one more miserable than Matrix Online and Everquest II combined.

This game is nowhere near what it needs to be in order to survive as an MMO, and nothing short of illustrating this point is going to help SE to make it into a survivable MMO.

I enjoy the game, but it needs to get a great deal better before it can stand on its own two feet and that type of blind fanboyism will do nothing but hurry this game into its grave...

Also, I'm a bit worried about the upcoming update list and how none of it really lists a good deal of new content as part of the soon to come (and by content, I mean new areas, classes, sidequests, pets, etc. just something to expand the game world)...

You wanna have an argument ? Alright i bite, the terrible game you said sold 3million copies on release, the clone game you hating on had on a 3 day beta test 2.4 million hours of player test, if you divide that by 24hrs, thats atleast 100k users, wich is equal or more than what this game has, seems to me like those horrible, cloned games are doing something Right.

Also this new dev team, has not delivered nothing outside of what is expected of them, i can understand that this game was/is at a horrible stage, where anything they do is looked at as "Good" but i'm not gonna go praise them on something that they needed to do in the first place, when they come out with some amazing content, and it blows peoples minds off, then i will praise them, until then they are doing what any dev team would have done in their shoes.

A small insight into why all the comments about how ffxiv is lacking are being sub-defaulted and criticized so much:

Everyone already knows content is lacking, even SE knows. They have addressed this in letters and have created a promise to implement content by the end of feb.

No, criticizing a game does not automatically make you a troll, and does not automatically get you a rate down. However, complaining about things everyone is already aware of will certainly get you ranked down out of sheer exasperation. And raining on the "progress parade" will probably get you ran out of town because in the midst of how poorly this game has been doing, everyone is looking towards any shred of hope we can.

I know things aren't perfect, and right now the best part of this game is my linkshell. However, I'm hopeful and see real direction in Yoshi's statements and adjustments thus far. I'm satisfied, excited, and more than a little tired of all the constant complaining.

And before it's mentioned, yes I know complaining can be constructive, but not when those involved have already conceded to what you're complaining about :/

Fixed that up a bit.

People that played Beta, ( the actual beta, not this beta ) and people that forked over $80 for CE but aren't playing much atm because the game isn't fun. Have just as much, if not more right to come on any forum about FFXIV and say whatever they want, negative or positive, than someone that's been playing less than a month.

have you played other mmos on the market? o_o

specifically the one mentioned in my first post, just released and it's already really great with tons of content. makes me wonder how SE managed to mess up so hard when they had FFXI to look at for guidance during the development process. but anyway i would say there are plenty of better mmos on the market, you clearly need to search harder, if not DC universe than i can even think of some free to play korean games that are much more enjoyable than ff14 lol.
How many people do you need disagreeing with you before you consider that you might be wrong? Holy sh*t, you are a regular Wile E. Coyote as far as posts go. Here's a title for your next thread: "Hey, I just bought some Acme rocket skates."

i should admit that im wrong because im being outnumbered but that's only because im on an XIV forum and while I'm a customer and I bought XIV I'm not actively playing, unlike most people who would still browse here are active. so it's kind of like

handful of people still clinging to XIV vs. me giving my opinions about it that they dont like.

like what do you want me to say. you're right, FFXIV really has developed into a decent game since September. I totally trust this Yoshi P guy and i think he's more than just talk. i think FFXIV is still going places and i think theyre definitely going to invest in a PS3 release!!
If you don't like it, quit, and leave us alone. I really don't understand the point of your OP, really. Were we all supposed to say 'you know, this guy is right, the game sucks and I should quit'? You don't like the game? Fine, don't bother us with it.

You guys are going to keep saying this and your going to blissfully ignore that you are indeed the minority and not the "trolls" that you so like t toss off this site. Keep doing this and have your little 7 person oasis of a game until the servers shut down. Idk if you know mmos at all. but look at the most recent failures. WAR, AOC these 2 failed out of the gate and never really recovered. and with more up and comers around the corner FFXIV is running very short on time to turn this around. Instead of driving these people away we should discuss this dissapointment. Ya its been done before and its all over the forum...but dont you think there is a reason for that? SE is losing money with this game currently. If it doesnt bounce back it will fail. The ps3 version is the last hope it has to survive. and even then it may only barely survive. and as for all these changes everyone clings to, i still play this game and i logged on and looked at these changes so i could get an idea of what was happening, and they sucked. not in that they didnt make the game better, they did, but these things should have been here since alpha and these are unacceptable flaws in an mmo of such high hype. Im anxiously awaiting the big updates from afar now and i want to play this game. But praising every little scrap throne to you is not helping. Yes its progress but why thank your boss for finally remembering to pay you when he should have been paying you correctly from the beginning. complacency breeds mediocrity. and the omg shut up leave excuse will work only until the game and these forums are shut down cause everyone omgshutupleft. -fin-

Hey, Poubelle!

I remember you from the XI general forums, then you disappeared for a while. Glad to see that you're still the same ignorant troll we all know and love.

In any case, others have mentioned already that most of your original post is a lot of [insert synonym for crap here], and I don't think you've even really given the game a chance since the CE release. (Not that the game is perfect or at a payable state yet, mind you. But your original post is still off on so many levels, I don't really know where to start.)

Make sure to check the time-lines and version updates on the Lodestone more clearly so you don't come off as ignorant next time you post.

Sounds like this guy JUST came back to the game after a while.

How was he supposed to know that everyone is aware of it and complaining about it will only make people mad at him?

Such high hype? There hasn't been one TV commercial aired in NA on this game, as far as I know - I've never seen an ad or a billboard for it or anything. If people hyped it themselves or whatever - you can't blame SE for that.

As for flaws acceptable/unacceptable in general - that is a whole different story - but I am pretty sick of people making crap up. This game wasn't hyped by SE - it wasn't even advertised at all.

Ostia, man, you need to get over it.

With 12 mil subscriptions, WoW don't really need you to come in here and defend it in every single post with irrelevant information about financial success and inflated subscription numbers as evidence that it's a great game. It's not really evidence of anything other than the fact that Blizzard produced and marketed a successful game.

Rift (and any other clone) can copy it all they want, but it doesn't make it anything other than a copy of a successful game.

Success does not equal fun. Success is measurable with values. Fun is measured by personal preference. Some people don't like WoW. It's really not as big a deal as you make it, thread after thread after thread after thread.

My first impression of Rift was also "Oh weird. It's WoW but with big swirling vortexes of doom. Kind of a cool idea but ugly graphics, ugly interface, ugly world." Notice how I'm not saying it's better or worse than WoW, nor am I comparing it to XIV. I just don't like WoW and (as a result) I'm not impressed with Rift either.

Rifts marketing campaign is a borderline smear campaign, too. The 2 trailers I watched that happened to come out right after XIV kept on harping (literally mentioned it 10-15 times) that it "already has a full game worth of content!" "It's not just a grind like a lot of launches. There's so much to do!" Then about 10 guys they paid money agree with them. Their newest thing is banners on ZAM telling me "We're not in Azeroth anymore." Funny cause ... that's what it looks like...

This is classic troll argument, man. Your opinion is as important as any non-decision making opinion. The most important opinion in your world and insignificant to everyone else. You don't really need someone to tell you that. You just want to defend your opinion because you want to perpetuate arguing or you want to defend an insecure statement.

I like XIV. Nothing anyone says changes it. You don't have to agree, but your opinion is meaningless compared to mine (from my perspective). You could build a case against my opinion and I could weigh your evidence (but that's typically too much work for trolls), but considering my personal experiences I'd say there wouldn't be much you could do to sway me.

I hope you someday feel as secure in your position that you don't need constant justification from others to tell you that it's ok to feel the way you do and that you're not alone.

This is a real charmer too:

I'm sure you weren't trying to annoy anyone with your little conclusion there. You probably thought it was clever or witty. I think its admitting you knew what you were starting and trying to fan the flames a little.

Just a little love note from me to you two (and the developers of Rift if they're lurking these forums hoping to find any new ad ideas they can launch to try and make their game look better than other games).

First off i dint mention wow, he did, second is wrong for me to point at something and say "Hey they must be doing something right if they have so many subs" but is ok for you to claim their numbers are inflated etc etc ? or for example when people say FFXIII sucked, fans are eager to remind us that the game sold 6million copies, as evidence the game was great, but if we do that with wow, we must be some troll or some die hard defender or Something.

Either way my coment was about rift having 2.4 million hours logged by players, wish if you divide by 24hrs thats 100K users, wich is more than this game HAS as a total, so rift must be doing something right, if they have MORE players playing their beta, than this game has playing in TOTAL, that was it, if is a clone or not, i do not care, for this game is a clone too, or please do enlighten me as how this game is any more original than any other MMO out there in the last 15yrs :)

Also if their marketing is or not smearing is up for debate, does the shot at FFXIV ring true ? Yeah it Does :) Does the one at wow rings True ? Well like you said we might not be in azeroth but it sure as **** feels like it :)

To be honest, I like your posts (Ostia) and I enjoy reading them - especially when you take the time to write more than two sentences.

I just get a little bored/tired/annoyed that any (dare I say every) time someone brings up WoW in a bad light you come to its rescue.

I didn't really mean to rant at you as much as I meant to "give you a hard time" in a sort of "Really, guy?" kinda way.

I don't frequently find myself agreeing with Ostia. I still don't think I really agree with the overall point he's making, but I did want to chime in on this bit.

People are going to like the things they like and they're going to dislike the things they dislike. I liked WoW for a bit and eventually grew tired of it. I liked FFXI and eventually grew tired of it (and actually am playing it again, but I digress). I liked FF12. I disliked FF13. There are many games I liked and many games I disliked and frankly, the number of people who did or did not like it does not affect my opinion. I really don't care how many copies it sold, either I like it or I don't.

I state this argument after having just gotten done the same argument earlier, except about movies. We were trying to decide which movie to watch and one person's argument for the film he wanted to get was to repeatedly talk about how high its ratings were and how much money it made and how many people went to see it in theaters... I really didn't consider any of that relevant. I remember that Titanic was at one point the highest grossing film of all time and hearing that Avatar overtook it I think? If I had to make a list of my top ten favorite movies... no, 20... no, 50... I doubt I'd put either movie on that list.

Sales equals financial success. Sales does not equal an indication of "You will like it because everyone else did", whether it is applied to a game, a movie, a food, or anything else.

We all like what we like, for our own reasons.

Well you can't really compare it. McDonalds in terms of marketing is the number one fast food restaurant in the world, it's fast food not fine dining. It's a place you go if you're craving a cheeseburger and fries and you don't wanna spend a lot of money. But yeah, I see what you're saying. People who prefer McDonalds over a cheeseburger you can get in In & Out obviously have an uneducated palate. In my opinion, I don't think the best MMOs are the ones that have the most people. I think you need content that satisfies the big and small crowd.Because really, the small crowd is still a **** of a lot of profit. Like your example earlier a restaurant. You good restaurant just doesn't serve protein, they serve vegetables for the vegetarians. But yeah, I hope this new director is thinking about the players and looking to make this MMO the best game, not just for money.

What I meant was simply that you can't just say that big sales mean quality. I took the McDonald's exampe, but i could've done the same with movies(I mean, Avatar is an ok movie, it's fun to watch, but it's far from being a very good movie).

So by saying that WoW/RIFT have a lot of subs, you can't imply the games are good. You can say they are efficient, for sure, but not good. You can just say Bliz/Trion fulfill the expectation of the majority(which only proves those copanies are good in business): An ok-thing, fast and easy to enjoy. But that kind of stuff will be really hard to change into a masterpiece.

Hum, not sure my english allows me to fully make myself understandable....

That's actually exactly the point. WoW's popularity is not "because it's a great game"; it has nothing to do with how good or bad the game is. It's popular because it is heavily marketed and it has mass appeal. Rather than focus on being "the best at _____", the game focuses on trying to have a little something for everyone. Stuff to solo and stuff to group for. PvP stuff and PvE stuff. Up until recently, even the commercials for WoW are made up of 5% "This is what you can do in WoW" and 95% "This celebrity plays WoW. ___ million people play WoW. You should play WoW too!"

Without regard to how good or bad the game is (because that's a totally subjective argument), WoW, like McDonalds and Avatar and Walmart is not indisputably the best because it sells the most units; it's simply the most popular option with large mass appeal. Just as I'm sure you could list a store you'd rather shop at than Walmart or a place you'd rather eat than McDonalds or a movie you'd rather watch than Avatar, I'm sure you could list a game you'd rather play than WoW.

Sales -are- still important, because if a game only sells 100 copies worldwide, it's pretty much a flop, no matter how fun it is to the few people that did buy it. This is why FFXIV really does need to be more than just a niche game. I'm not saying that they have to try to appeal to everyone like other games might. I'm not even saying that I personally give a **** whether the game has 500k, 5 mil, or 50 million players because the only players that affect me are the ones on my server. However, if they don't bring in enough people to comfortably pay the bills on the servers and staff and also make a tidy profit, they will eventually have to close the servers.

Games may be a labor of love for some developers, but no one is going to host a game that is costing them more money every month than they are bringing in, no matter how much their customers love the game. It's just bad business sense.
