Black pearl - an easy way to obtain itFollow

Some time ago there was a discussion about the most unnecessary job to level, and Culinarian
was among the "winners". Well, not if you want to get rich. Currently, they are the only class
that can realiably produce "Black Pearls" (a HQ2 synth from the Rank 21 recipe "Blacklip Oyster +
2 Wind Shards"). ^.^/

Better rate this up quickly, because crafters will do anything in their power to make this
thread disappear as soon as possible, hahaha!

Don't you mean Blacklip Oyster? The HQ result for Rothlyt Oyster is a Pearl.

Of course, yes. Sorry, I had to guess the english name from the Japanese one. Anyway,
the oyster that can be mined e.g. from rank 5 spots around camp iron lake (setting the aim
to the second-to-top position) and drops from several yarzon type mobs. See:

Ouch. It pays to read the flavor text. The english version even explicitly states that
it may contain a black pearl >.</

Because money is hard to come by in FFXIV?

I suspect that when people overwhelmingly voted Culinarian as a useless job, they were probably thinking more how lame it was that food is essentially useless. One profitable recipe in a game that throws money at players doesn't change anything that people were unhappy about.

True enough; yet there are few other jobs that offer you to make millions upon
millions with a single synth @ rank 21 (and, granted, a little luck).

Apparently Black Pearls are used in high ranked jewelry and is particularly useful because they give +5 Mag Acc rings. I'm not too sure about making millions and millions though. That sounds like an exaggeration on OP's part.

Nope, no exaggeration. At least not on Figaro server.
Last time I checked, only 4 were for sale.
Priced 4, 7, 7 and 13 m, respectively.

good luck getting an HQ +2

even when I use high quality starting item on a rank 5 synth I still don't get HQ +2 almost ever... even with +500 quality at finish

correction: I have yet to get HQ +2 while making sand from fish. It is also very tedious. I would not recommend ranking up CUL based on this alone, lol.

Yea and I can price my Banneret Lance +2 for 999m and it would be the only one for sale in the entire Gysahl server. Doesn't mean I can get that price. HQ is not something you can joke about, and FYI Grade 5 mining is r38+ unless you don't mind tagging along a MIN of that level because you can't scan the node.

Out of curiosity, is is only obtainable through mining, or can it be fished up as well?

Lol far from easy to obtain. Farmed five +3 Blacklips a week back and had a r42 CUL do the synth. Broke 500-600 Q on all attempts and ended up with all sand.

Required training may help, its the only "book" she doesn't have. I may try a few at r28 this weekend (I have Fishcleaning)

I still dont see anyone buying a +5 magic acc ring for 10mil which is what it would be worth if your selling the black pearl for that much

It's not that hard to imagine with how easily gil flows in this game. I have almost 5 mil just from doing leves and I don't have a class above rank 25. I could imagine anyone near rank 50 will have many tens of millions they're wanting to spend.

I've found that to compare FFXIV prices to FFXI you have to multiply by about 10. 100,000 gil in FFXI is more like 1mil here.

Because 90% of the remaining player populations is crafting like
no tomorrow to reach some imaginary goal. Yet noone is crafting
black pearl rings on Figaro.

Because you can't sell the Black Pearl ring for the cost of the Black Pearl. I've seen 2nd tier STR/VIT gem for 100k, and the 2nd tier gem ring STR/VIT for 50k, pfft.

Just because there up for sale doesn't mean they sell for that. Actually if you look at the history of that ring on FFXIVPRO one has been sold i believe out of all the servers. So in all honesty even if you do happen to finally get a pearl. There just not selling at a rate to make a good income

this was exactly my point in saying no one would sell a black pearl ring for 10mil, compared to everything else it would be completly out of proportion
