Be on Carpenter, make sure the material is in your inventory, go to your weapon in the Inventory, select it, and "Repair".

Don't forget to un-equip it first.

Well, that's why I said "Be on Carpenter" first.

You can only do 8 Battlecraft/Fieldcraft leves per reset. When you complete leves, they remain in your journal so that you can "exchange" them on the next reset.

When you take new leves, you have the option of enhancing the rewards you gain by exchanging the leves you completed last reset. There is still a maximum of 8 new leves you can take per reset.

Unfortunately, you can't. It may be a feature somewhere down the road, but it's not currently possible.

I think you will find that the Ul'dah wards are more populated. I'm finding that most crafters have moved beyond level 1-20 gear. You really don't need to upgrade gear much until that point. Players are skipping to level 20 in the span of a few days, so that gear is not in very high demand.

You will do just fine to wear you starter gear and whatever armor you get from leve-quest rewards until 20+. Save you money until then. :)

I second this question.

Also, can someone explain battle regimens and how they work in uncomplicated terms? I didn't understand some of the other threads about it...

I have noticed this too. I couldn't find anyone around the Gridania area, but Ul'dah is very crowded. Even the camps around Ul'dah are more populated. I can't even get into a behest unless I'm there right when the gate warden shows up.

On my server I've been trying to sell some low level gear for reasonable prices because I also noticed there is nothing low level for sale. But I have come to the conclusion that it is easier and better to just level up crafting making whatever is cheapest and selling it to a vendor. No one buys my hempen robes (which are a real pain to make and I am not even making anything close to a profit on them). I think that is why there is nothing good for sale until around 30+, it isn't worth it, and no one is buying it.

Edit: Oh yes, I forgot my noob question. Is there any way to take a screen shot in game?

How can you tell where the next Behest is going to be at? Or is it just luck?

I did the whole /clock thing, saw it was 5 minutes until Behest, ported around wasting a lot of anima without finding the guy.

Behest happens every hour at every Camp. The NPC shows up exactly on the hour and sticks around camp for 5 minutes, waiting for players to sign up.

You can do 8 leves (8 crafts + 8 battle/gathering) per 36 hours, type /clock to know the reset timer, or look up the screen (top left) here in ZAM.

THey do NOT stack, so if you don't do your 8 in 36 hours, you "lose" them. It is not 36 hours since you select them, they are on set timers.

There are 3 scenarios when selecting leves:

1)If you have no finished leves in hand, any new leve you select will come in with no notice.

2)If you have finished leves in hand, you can exchange them for bonus for the gils or guildmarks on the new leve you are exchanging for (1=10% bonus, 2=20 %, 0 = no bonus...). I think you get better bonuses when you exchange leves from different issuing towns (i-e you exchange a Limsa Lominsa issued leve for an Uldah leve).

3)You have selected 8 new leves but have not finished them all. You find some other leves with better rewards, you can exchange a leve you have not started for a new one, but you can not exchange the other leves you have done if the timer has not reset since you have selected them.

Actually there is a 4th scenario. You have only selected, say, 6 leves in a town and done them all. You come to another town, get a new one, they ask you to exchange one but they are all in dark gray (you can't select them). You have to wait for the reset to exchange them but still can get those 2 remaining leves with no bonus.

I hope I have not added confusion with this, my English is pathetic tonight

Spaerfedar located in the Leatherworker's Guild in Gridania has a Sheepskin Targe (r17 for DoW and DoM) for sale for 86768 gil. The only other two NPCs that sell shields are for DoW only. If you want to find shields, it's probably better if you searched the wards under the Battlecraft Ward/Den/Row. You may also try asking crafters in either the Carpenter's Guild or the Armourer's Guild if they can make one (provided you/they have the mats)

Bonus is a misnomer, there's nothing "beneficial" to being in surplus, and you don't get the 'bonus' experience. When you hit surplus, the game is telling you that you've ranked this class for too long (surplus is tied to SP gain, and not time spent) and that it might be prudent to either give this class a rest or switch to another class if you want to continue with the full benefit.

Surplus in essence means you take a hit to the amount of SP gained, and as your "Bonus rank/level" increases the percentage of SP loss increases. I believe the first level is merely a 10% decrease in the SP gained normally. It will decrease in time (the general consensus is if you don't rank any other classes, Surplus will disappear within a week. Ranking other classes should decrease the amount of time for surplus to dissipate)

I believe it's under My Documents\My Games\Final Fantasy XIV\user.

Try saving this folder elsewhere next time and replacing it after a reinstall.

My noob question: How do I join a guild to do class leves? I had heard you needed to be rank 20, but I'm rank 21 (26 Pl) and have talked to every NPC in the gladiator guild and no luck getting leves! Am I doing something wrong?

Edit: I was wondering if I need to advance the main story line to a certain point first....

Make sure you're the right class (in this case, Gladiator) before talking to the NPC at the guild. For Gladiator the NPC to talk to would be Lulutsu.

You need to have complete the r20 Main storyline quest - Fade to White.

You don't really do leves "for" the guild. You have some chances that battle leves give you guildmarks for a specific job instead of gils, which you can exchange for abilities or traits to the guy in the guild.

edit: Nevermind I misread your question, sorry

You make those items as well.

Nearly all the items on your list can be made with:

(1) Hempen Yarn
(1) Undyed Hempen Cloth

Check the recipe Database at the top of the page here.

You need to get guildmarks (acquired randomly from r15+ Weaver local leves). 5000 of them to be exact. While it's recommended, you can still do the synth without the training. It'll just be far easier with the training.

today i realize that my equips lost duration when i was crafting or collecting, is it working as intended?
is the tree fighting back or something and causing damage to my armor? -_- im going do that naked from now...

i think i really dont like crafting or collecting stuff...it take too much time (running like a fool, looking for items that you have no idea where to get, its a really slow process, mining stress me up, the animations are too slow)

So yes, im going to pass these jobs and focus only on adventure (i hope i will not need them).
And running...i know mounts are not ready yet, but this world and quest builds make you run for HOURS.

I hope it come fast, cuz some days, i only can play for about 30 minutes or so, that just the time i need to get from point A to B (assuming that a random mob dont kill me with 1 hit a after 20 minutes of run)

Gear Damage on Armour doesn't really do anything when you're crafting and gathering since the +stats aren't affected. Only if/when you're fighting do you want your gear to be repaired. Your tools however should always be kept repaired. Most actions taken cause some form of gear durability loss (this is expounded when you're using over-ranked gear. I'm not sure if the same thing happens to under-ranked gear though). S-E has said they'll tweak the rate of durability loss to items so I guess it's not "working as intended".

I'm not entirely sure if this is true, but Behest targets and the number of monsters that spawn are affected by the number of people who join, and supposedly the actual rank of the players who join.

So some players join at a high rank to make more/tougher mobs spawn, and then switch to a lower ranked class so that they can gain decent SP, instead of gimping SP gain for the whole group.

Like I said, I know that the number of people who join a Behest will affect the number of mobs that spawn. Just not so sure on the average rank of the group.

I'm just about ready to do the leve NM's. here is my questions.

If I have a fresh reset of leves, is it possible to do all 3 tiers in one reset? Assuming you have the credits available. Or do you have to wait till the next reset to do tier 2, and so on?

I hope it can all be done in one reset, that would be awesome. I'm close to cap on all minus the "Horn and Hand".

There are no pieces of gear (to my knowledge) that have Optimal Physical Levels. It's all based on the Rank of your current job.

Hey so I thought I'd post this update:

I went to Camp Black Brush, the Rank 1 Thanalan camp, and did the Behest there. There was one other guy there, he joined as a Rank 50 Lancer, I joined as a Rank 31 Gladiator. After it started, we switched to Rank 7 jobs. For just us two, 35 mobs spawned. I haven't done a lot of low level Behests, but that is way more than I ever saw doing them the few times I did. Seems to favor your suggestion that Rank may factor in to how many mobs spawn, granted I've only tried it once so far. I'll keep experimenting!

Definitely Nophica's Wells, there is a leve called Levinshower there that can make more SP than all of the Nanawa mines leves put together. Furthermore, Nanawa has a few leves that are extremely difficult and do not pay off with good sp.

Hey following my theme of Behests:

How do people manage to get in the behest so quickly when there is 20+ people waiting for the Battlewarden? I always sit there and try to click as fast as I can and never make it in. Is this just a result of my internet connection (DSL) being slower than the others, being in America as opposed to Japan (not sure where the servers are located), or perhaps is there a way to macro joining a Behest? Any info on this appreciated!

Probably being on DSL is your problem, you might want to try the behest at a less populated area. Limsa Lominsa seems to be less populated than Ul'dah and Gridania seems the be the least populated. The first time I tried to do the r3 behest in Ul'dah area, I didn't get it, but now I can get in every time. I just click the guy and mash the "A" button on my Xbox 360 controller as fast as I can. I am also in America.

Because all the servers are in Japan, and most of the information is loaded from the server side and not the client side, you'll have a bit of a lag in heavily populated areas (Thanalan camps), especially during heavy traffic times (behest). Your best bet is to try the LL camps as the previous poster suggested.

Ok something I've never quite understood and I'm going to ask it here.

It's a question regarding setting macro's in-game.

I have read the Wiki guide on ZAM and understand all the basic principles e.g. how to make macro's etc - what I don't understand is how I assign key combinations for rows 2 to 5 for both ALT and CTRL?

For example I have all of my macros set from configuration>macro's like this:

CTRL+1 = Sacrifice macro (e.g. /action "Sacrifice" <me>)
CTRL+2 = change equipment for my Thaumaturge (e.g. several equipment changing lines)
and so on until CTRL +0

SO thats CTRL plus all the number keys on my KB from 1 to 0.

I do the same thing for ALT 1 to 0

When you look at the configuration menu you have 5 rows of macro lines available but if I try and set any macro's to any of the other four rows I have no idea what key combinations are assigned.

At first I thought maybe it was the next row down on the keyboard e.g. CTRL+Q, CTRL+W but this doesnt work.

This question has been bugging me for some time so if anyone knows I will be eternally grateful.

You can make a macro to assign your abilities to the keys you want them. It is useful for switching classes. You can even make the macro switch classes for you.

/equip main "Weapon Name" (this will switch you to which ever class you want)
/equip sub "Weapon Name" (use this line if you have an offhand, such as a shield, omit it if you do not)
/equipaction 1 "Light Thrust" (this will equip the action Light Thrust in your #1 action slot)

Here's a guide on the Lodestone

Remember that the action name must be in quotes like I have it there, and it must be capitalized correctly for it to work.

Another option is you can just assign whatever action you currently have in slot 1 to slot 3 and it will switch them.

I left my retainer in a market ward, and I can't remember which one. Is there an easy way to find him?

Check your "Retainer List" in the "main" menu. It'll tell you which city, and which ward they're in.
The option is right underneath "Linkshell" in the list.

I've always used these the same way I use the main 3 rows. I use the arrow key to scroll through bars. Ctrl+Up/Down and Alt+Up/Down, then Ctrl+1/2/3 and Alt+1/2/3

Not sure if your question has been answered yet, but to access the other rows of macros you just have to press and hold the cntrl key, then push the arrows up or down (the arrows you use to navigate through the menu) until you reach your desired 'row' of macros. Then, just use your macros like before, with the standard 1-0 keys. ^^ Works the same way with the ALT macros of course too.

hope that made sense!

Don't think you can.

Personally I wish all 3 rows of my action bar were visible at all times, along with my stamina gauge. It's annoying not to be able to see the cooldown of abilities on bars 2/3.

1. You can only have 8 Regional leves and 8 Local leves per 36 hour period. You cannot exchange them (regional only) for new ones until the new leves are active. When you do exchange them, you can exchange up to 4 per new leve you pick up, they will have a star next to them, depending on which country you got them from, and which issuing authority made the leve, they will either have a 2 or a 1 or a 0 next to the name. The more stars there are the better the reward for the new leve will be.

2. No there is no way to transfer character from account to account, but if you dont know how to exchange leves yet i doubt you sunk enough time into the game yet that you're going to be losing much

As a mouse/keyboard user I target myself and press enter when I want to take a quick look at the action bar. No it doesn't stay up if I'm out of combat, but when I'm switching targets it keeps me from accidentally attacking.

Edit: Oh yes, I forgot my noob question. Is there any way to take a screen shot in game?

Hold down Scroll Lock, and then hit Print Screen.
Pictures are located under Documents\My Games\FFXIV\screenshots

Oh thank you very much! I never would have figured that out on my own. Would you believe I even read through the manual and checked the key-bindings looking for a "screenshot" button?

To follow on this topic of screen shot, How do you do with a laptop that doesnot possess the 'Scroll lock' key (Or I haven't found where it can be :O)?
